you really need the tank and the golden gun before you can even think about going for the hard medal. I bought them AND 27 nukes and still plenty of times i got smacked against a spiked ball floating in the air.. oh well, finally made id.
My longest jump was 1.6 million untill i started to really grind for cash and buy it. then boom did it (after 20 tries)
tip, if your speed is not in the 10k per second, try to do it again. when your speed drops off to 100's of feet a second you will never make it. use our gun when you are nearly out and down on the ground with slow flight before you give the extra zap with your gun.

Woohoo!3.4 million!!! The key is to have the tank and golden gun obviously, with a bomb pack and a ton of nukes. Shoot him to space and rocket him. Then as soon as he ceomes out of deep space, shoot him back up until you're out of ammo. Then just try to time your nukes to hit the ground the moment after you bounce off the ground. Otherwise, just pray to get more ammo to send him back to orbit. (+) this if you think it was helpful...

save for cannon upgrades.
set aside a little for a tier 2 weapon (better weapon = longer distances = more money = easier)
get the tank.
get the gold gun.
get a few nukes and give it a couple of tries.
With full achievements you'll get to 3Mil easily.
Get the turtle to outer space with the tank. Use the missile and then keep shooting it before it reaches the ground (keep a couple of bullets for spikes). First Million miles are a breeze. With a little luck and perseverance you'll get that shiny badge and THEN you can play this awesome game for fun. =P

I got to the 3 million needed for the hard badge (without using nukes btw.) but I didn't get the badge
