Firing cannonballs the wrong way can be frustrating when you're trying to shoot the enemy ships. What, do you aim with the freakin' mouse?!?

Don't waste money on armor, with good maneuravility cannonballs are very easy to dodge, invest in crew, reload, cannons, and damage, in this order, then spin and speed.

Space invaders pirate battle-style? O_O I think it's a nice game, but it could have been much better if the details had been exploited, like: the up/down aiming (either 1> Port/Starboard or 2> Port+Starboard (two buttons for fire) any of these 2 could work, but the way it is you can't fire horizontally properly.) Also, the cannons are not specific for each side of the ship, it's weird O_O.. so it is for infinite range, slow, constant speed cannonballs. Also the game is very repetitive... corners in the ocean are weird too, and the AI is dumb (if this is should be a retro game, then the graphics and the upgrades system don't match the game at all - see Understanding Games part1). Finally the AI's ships moves strangely. Good stuff: getting shot decreases your ship's attributes, and I like the gold pickup system (it could be slower, though) 3/5

The small 'map', and the fact that enemy ships drift downwards makes it impossible to avoid a meele once there're more than 4 or so enemy ships. Since these can have up to 200 crews, and since they will flock to you once you're locked in meele, the later levels are damn hard... and that's not meant in a good way.

I don't get it. Complete all 12 levels on the "admiral" difficulty setting in Treasure of Cutlass Reef. But then it says:
Game completed (colonel). So what mode I should do it on?

The reason port and starboard would be good is because up and down are occasionally meaningless. Sometimes I head straight up so that I can lead the enemies back to the top of the screen. It's very hard to shoot at them at those times because sometimes the good angle for shooting makes the cannons fire the wrong way. If 'v' shot one way and space shot the other, the game would have more precise control with the same number of keys.

Oh a few more things. I notice the AI ships move much faster and track betterif you sail north of them... it's kind of odd. Also, the range for boarding attacks should be decreased until the ships basically touch. Perhaps add in a ramming feature as well.

Enhancement suggestions: Better AI, larger map with some coastal or island features, double cannons but only allow half to shoot off out of each side. Make cannon fire a bit more random, some falling short or long of target and make the shots a bit easier to see. Traditionally, a pirate wouldn't go about assaulting a fleet of 9 ships.. and if it did, it would dart in and take out one. So, why not set up convoys that the pirate recons and attacks and the fleet AI has to defend. The pirate should be the one on the offensive, not the convoy (or else, it would run away).

This game reminds me of Ancient Art of War at Sea, an old Mac/PC game. The problem is combat in that game more accurately resembled naval tactics. In this game, I often end up pinned in a corner as the AI ships swoop around in a very slow version of Space Invaders. I also would prefer port/starboard shooting since I can't tell which way I'm shooting if I head due north. Also, I don't know why my ship stops/slows down when I fire cannons.

Actually, easiest was to get badge is boards enemy ship and well boarding fire at it to take down some extra sailors, then when you finished the level, use all your gold on crew.
Remember, the challenge is for gold you EARN, not save.

Please stop suggesting "Port and Starboard"-shooting... thats idiotic for this game... by having it as up/down (even though theres only once in a blue moon when you'd need to shoot down) it auto-corrects itself for when you turn. The game is in the style of Invaders... enemies ALWAYS come down from the top progressing closer, and if you're a good shot, only a few few will actually get into close-combat with your ship. When turning, you don't want to have to have the player remember every time to switch his guns, in the middle of combat... it is FAR better to have it autorotate with your ship so you are always shooting in the general direction of your foes. Force the player to hit a "Swap sides" key every time they tried to turn (read: "hundreds of times a game") OR just swap the guns to "down" for the times when you're in close-combat and get another ship stuck below you (read: "three times in twelve levels)

this game is great, not just because of what it is, but because it's HARD! too many games now are easy just so people will play them. I enjoy a good hard game when it comes out, and this is one of them, never-the-less fun. 5/5.

This game is Good!.....if only it has an option to battle other people online, multiplayer game...lol...team vs team...lol..that would be great
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
eh its o.k. but codeguy is right you should make it port and starboard some people might have no idea what that is but most people do so you should do that 3/5

So. That's sweet. I played this game a lot, saved it, and now my save is gone once there are badges. SWEET. Eff that. 1/5.

This game could be a good game, but noooo! Enemy ships can swim backwords and got some kind of turbo, when they are close to you or you try to swim above them. Game is piece of crap because of this...

Okay, I get the firing now. Up and down is in regards to the screen, not the ship. That's a very confusing method. It's also totally useless when my ship is pointed straight up and down. At those times I have no idea which way the cannonballs are going to come out. I'd prefer Port and Starboard to Up and Down. If some people like Up and Down, perhaps there could be a choice in the options menu.

I agree with DocZee, the firing is confusing. Usualy it fires to the left, but every once in awhile it will fire off to the right and I can't figure out why. Also, sometimes only one cannonball will come out even though I still have plenty of crew and I had time to reload. Very confusing. Good game in general, though.

How can I get the hard badge? Because the requirements are different between the description and the check-off sentences.
