Salty a barb is better than a warrior because brutality is more useful than armor passive becuase 70+ DR isn't needed when you beef up endurance and the fact that whirlwind is far superior to cleave in it's ability to hit more enemies in more formations. IE a group with an open slot in the middel front row would limt warrior to one hit whereas the barb would get 2 also getting the extra hit in the back row when there is a 6 enemy party. The pulverize and dismember skills makes legendaries easycakes. If you want to mow thru enemies in quick fasion you want to do as many hits per round as possible.
A couple days I noticed someone said mages sucked...mages pwn electrical storm rapes. A with mage blade, book of dread, robe of affliction, serpentine band, mana shroud, and savant gear with int orbs will take 2/3 to 1/2 Hp from all enemies by itself...Mages and Rangers are the best chars in the game for ripping thru levels.

One other question for you insanely high lvl people. Do the stats ever MAX out? Like is my str going to stop increasing at 999 or something?
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Electric storm on wraiths = instant kill. I have a question. Do the bonuses on mage staffs work when they are casting spells? Bonuses like stun %, poison added, % chance to kill, etc. ?

I'm over level 500 now and I like my party. 1 Warrior front and center with a Minotaur's Axe, Omega Helm, Indomitable Breastplate and Gauntlets, Swashbuckler's Pantaloons, Quicksilver Boots with a Sepentine Band and Cloak of Flames. 70 speed with 23000+ damage. He's flanked by two Rouges dressed and equiped about the same, Dreadfather's Visage, Robe of Affliction, Swashbuckler's Pantloons, Hydraskin Cloak, Serpentine Band with rotating gloves and boots. Both with Pestilence Blades and Mythic Shadows adding 22000+ poison every hit. And a Cleric in the back with all the leftover best armor, the Punisher, upgrading items to cause stun, currently at 45% but seems to work more often. 6 party defeats overall, not bad eh? With Rouges 'create opening' and Warriors 'leadership' I can get 7 hits a round.

I have retribution finally! My warrior has 135 % damage reflection. What more, because of my rogue's elusiveness, enemies will hit warrior more time! My barbarian and rogue have 60-60 % reflection, too.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
My warrior has 75 % damage reduction, so if he uses shield wall he has 99 % (not 100 %, as ot should to be), but it's easy to get with Stalwart Guardian's armour and armor profiency.

I like to use 2 warriors(1 for endurence and other to strenght) and 1 mage and 1 cleric, for me is the most simple and eficient combination
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
I agree Neko, the only character I have found so far that seems worthless is the conjuror. Also, I don't see why you would use a barbarian over a warrior. I have played them both to decent level now and yes the barbarian's whirlwind does incredible damage but the warrior has cleave which hits almost the same number of enemies and he can wear heavy armor. I guess at later levels though the armor won't matter much with good health drains. Anyways.... conjurors suck :)

This is a very fun game (even slightly addictive O.o). I still haven't decided what my favorite combination is, since the classes are actually pretty balanced depending upon the other characters.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
I have a Conjuror with a Robe of Affliction and a Luminescent Staff of the Enlightened Magus, and he blinds whoever he hits for 55%. IS there a way to increase the blind modifier?
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
or put the warrior in the second row center position, equip a spear and change the heavy armors to medium. Your speed and damage increase (in the first row center the shield is must need).
Another combo if your ranger increase the party's speed.
My favourite combo is the ensorcelled blade, force of nature and/or rain of arrows with the rouge's thief luck.
I use two warrior (one in back row) now with a cleric(back row) and a mage.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
btw this is a nuts combo try this: Use a rogue to cast cripple, works on any mob and reduces speed to 0.
Now...that means your warrior can use his most powerful move, overwhelm no matter what his speed is. Therefore, try to cripple, then use overwhelm. You'll get 4 attacks in one since it has such a high chance to proc leadership. Devastating on single targets like legendary monsters. Annoint also makes it hit 1.75 times harder :D so happy hunting.

All damage dealers can work, like the rogue thing Frostguard said. The higher they are the better. For example, my rogue at level 55 hits over 3k, with about 1.6k poison applied.
Also clerics are godlike later. A healer that doesn't die really (almost like the WOW Paladin). Also, if you annoint your barbarian and the 50% damage thing procs...lets say I have 1 shotted 4 monsters at once at like level 14. %'s usually scale well, and trust me that much extra damage for a measly amount of mana is worth it. Try annointing a ranger and doing rain of arrows with a high accuracy weap lol you'll see what I mean.

@Krystar -> Go to http://game-guide.me/2008/07/monsters-den-book-of-dread-walkthrough.html (Scroll down for a walkthrough on beating the 40 waves) Also there is a way to have unlimited money to upgrade your party for the survival challenge. Search around for it and you'll find it easily enough. gl.

I think he meant the "reach wave 40 badge" and no I haven't. Though there is someone who reached a wave somewhere in the thousands.

Also, for all the people saying that clerics are useless... wth are you talking about? I miss mine with my new party :/ I realize that with a good party you don't need any healing, but that's not the beauty of clerics. They can wear Heavy Armor and casting Litany of pain is insanely devistating, especially on undeads. If I redid my part I would do cleric + 3 mages. Cleric in front with heavy armor as meat shield. She'd heal herself when needed otherwise cast litany and the 3 mages in back would just spam Electric and have as much mana recharge as possible. May have to try that group out and see how it fares.

How does the Journeyman's stone work, or what does it do? Says to combine 9 fragments which is exactly what I have right now but, how do I combine them? What's it do anyways? Btw... my party is 4 mages.. lol. Electric attack non-stop with huge amounts of mana recharge + health regen = tough to beat. Extremely hard for first 10 lvls though.

arg, i forgot to say : some time rez potion and heal potion before some boss (fearsowers and boss of level and Epic battle ^^) same with MP potion ...
this party is hard in firsts levels but after very easy ^^ but you must find the good loot ^^

i had a good party : 3 ranger and 1 rogue : 1 ranger with melee weapon (2H is better) with max Vitality and End and HP regen a 50% turn HP regen and if he had drain life with Force of Nature ... xD
Rogue with the better bow, max DEX, poison craft, fire in the boss or the healer with poison kill ennemy in 2 or 4 turn for epic battle with no other char attacking him ^^
the other ranger with creature lore very good with heail of arrow and loot +hit chance ^^ and with Healing Lore and focus for very long battle (never used :p)
I love this party :D

Here's my party:
Warrior
Cleric
Ranger
Conjurer.
This is a very good team, as the Warrior can take a lot of damage and last through small fights without being healed, the Ranger's massive damage-dealing abilities make him great in large groups, the Conjurer can summon blockers or attackers to aid the warrior AND he can eliminate those pesky cultist's summons instantly, and the Cleric is an amazing healer and great against undead.

Try a four-rogue party. Three to the first row (dagger), and one to the back with bow. Get hide and sneak attack (something else for the bowman). In bigger battles, hide with all of them. Then enemies will not be able to attack, and your rogues will attack for 2x damage! So 4 enemies out without damage. Most-damage weapons and stats are also the best for them, I have killed the corruptor with that party.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
A well-equipped party doesn't need anoint, or even points spent on endurance. Using good timing (eliminate always the monster what will attack next or the most dangerous), spend all points on stats what will increase damage, and get the biggest-damage weapons and use the right skills, and you will be able to kill all enemies before you could take damage (or wih minimal damage).

I got a conjuror, barbarian, warrior and mage and my main focus is the barbarian he has a level 23 mintour axe with 89 posion damage. great game ^^ 6/5
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
I had rolling with a Barbarian, Warrior, Rogue and cleric.
The rogue has such powerful single target abilities, its incredible. Also, my guys were about level 44 and the 50% poison added thing scales incredibly well. The poison will tick for > than his attacks later on.
Barbarian what can I say...use the clerics attack and my level 44 barb was hitting for over 7k.
Annoint is a powerful cleric move, to those who might not like the cleric. Stack up health/armor and you have a healer that doesnt die and can buff your softer members.
Warriors are sick. You stack cleave and an annoited whirlwind and everything is pretty much dead. Then you still have the rogue to finish off anything else, and if you set up the party right, the barb can charge and kill w/e.
IMO, 5/5, but please make the conjurer more useful...didn't seem to be worth the trouble when you can get a mage or ranger instead.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Cleric is the most useless, and conjurer is the second, I think. Rogues are very useful in boss fights and legendaries (I couldn't kill gorgon without sap strength). The ideal party, I think is a warrior (meat shield+good fighter), barbarian (a little vulnerable but incredible damage), rogue (invincible poison - poisoncraft - 50 % of damage is added as poison :) ), ranger (auxiliary ranged attacker (and mass)). I used once mage instead of ranger, and was effective, too.
Contravente: I can't use clerics because I simply DO NOT NEED healing :). They take anything out in 1 or maximum 2 rounds. They're unstoppable.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
cleric's lithany of pain uses the weapon's special attacks... like poisoning, chance to stun, chance to kill... so with only 1 cast, you spread that chacne on every single enemy and mutiple the %chance... i think 4 cleric was the most easy party i've ever tried. and they dont need strenght at all :S int+life are enough. becos good weapons need good specials and NOT the good damage, you dont want to hit with the weapon anyway :) using lithany of pain is like using expert magic in heroes3 ^^
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
The rogue and mage are the two most useless classes! My best group is made of a warrior, cleric, barbarian and ranger.
The warrior and barbarian support each other, the cleric heals and the ranger deals a large amount of damage to several enemies at once, weakening them.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
I love rogue when beating up creature leaders. And rangers. Just hide, sneak attack and let the poison flow :)
Plus, they get awesome poison stuff. I can poison for a LOT of damage.
My best team right now is rogue, mage, cleric and ranger. My rogue can take out single units quickly, whilst the rest of my party poisons the others.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Ugg what is this fascination with rogues? Seriously they blow about as much as a ring of truth lmao...How long does that take to kill a 6 enemy party? 3-4 turns? Blah watch how fast my 3 mages and a barb move up the level rankings over the next couple weeks ;)
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
also its one thing that corrupter couldn't use its power due to sapped strength, but with the 4 rogue set he was dead before he could do anything but pass.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
a 4 rogue party is unstoppable after they all get a nice dagger, hide, and sneak attack.
i managed the 40 waves using a cleric as the meat shield, and a ranger, conjurer, and mage all with emphasis on buffs and resurrection where appropriate. its important to have benediction on the cleric, since its your only way to remove the reduced damage from the dwarves.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
I did not find useful clerics at all. I don't use healing because I don't need to, and to increase their damage both strength and intellect should be raised- That isn't good for me. I planned a mage to a party, but instead ranger, not rogue. Rogue is also very important (ensures that I begin the battle all the time, can eliminate the quickest, allowing rogue to unleash hail of arrows without taking damage bedore it. Also very useful sap strength, what prevents bosses and legendary creatures to use their main powers (Corruptor couldn't cast Dark Mirror because my rogue sapped his strength and he didn't have enough power).

Here' a party i been testing. Rogue, mage, ranger, cleric. The cleric i more usefull in early level to prevent pwnage in teh firt 3 levle *i find that the firt 3 level are alway the hardest becaue you don't have al you good gear and moves you want yet* and it wa bamph. Pwnt thing quickly at lvl 5 and took on a hydra in 3 rounds. I didn'thave a true tank, but i did have lot of hit reduction from cleric, and the cleric NEVER ran out of power. he ha over 30+ regen. ranger would pin and execute combo *ranger was fastest* and he'd put the hp regen on rogue. Mage would AoE like the hit. And i got teh coolest robe ever. at end of every fight regen 50% of power. It would not die. Not the bet combo though.

Sweet I started a new party and got a golden axe on level 9 lol. My barb is going berserk :p (I'm MrMonkyBot got tired of 4 rangers wonder how long it'll take to beat my level :o)
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
So... warrior, barbarian, mage, ranger would be the ideal group? Could someone also help me.... I just got to lvl 6 (first time, lol) and I am maxed on items and have no scrolls to go sell stuff. Any tips/secrets? thx
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Sure a decent party but slow, you may kill things in one round early(enemies couldn't even get off an attack until about level 300 in my game :o )..But as you progress you will slow down big time. A mage instead of a rogue would have been better but oh well. Y a mage u ask? thier lightning attack is the best in the game(always great damage, no "to hit" reduction like hail of arrows and insta kills pesky wraiths) With the right gear they can blind targets up to 125% making legendaries miss all time.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
However, items what increase both strength and dexterity are good for rogues mainly - who I like for very high damage (my rogue with an ordinary dagger has a lot bigger damage than my golden axe-user barbarian!), and bloodsoaked berserker's armour is very good for barbarian (gives also health, barbarians need that). I don't use robes, because I don't have mage (warrior, barbarian, rogue, ranger - in the Den of endless evil, they become invincible because their passive skills allow them to eliminate anything - except legendary creatures - in one round, maximum two). I don't use replenishment items, too - I use attribute-raising items only (strength to warrior-barbarian, dexterity to ranger, strength or dexterity or both to rogue).
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
What items are the best?
I think those what raise both strength and dexterity (bone ring, swashbuckler's pantaloons, facemask of the bandit chieftain...), and golden axe, minotaur axe, hydra's tooth, cloak of flames, retribution. I had once a warrior with retribution (60 % reflection) and cloak of flames (75 % reflection). Both of these gave many strength so his damage became enormous and any enemy what attacked him died right after its attack. :)
