Poo to you, Dark Corruptor. I beat you in record time on hard with difficulty modifiers...and your items have managed to disappear from my inventory when I resumed. FUUUUU-

Hmm, I'm going through right now trying to play with 1 conjuror as my entire party... It's difficult, but very interesting!

Another thing that is fantastic about this game are the "alternate builds". Many people might think using a bow with a warrior is insanity (especially since most of the Warrior's skills are Melee) - but it's not ! You can have 2 warriors, one with a standard "heavy armor build" the 2nd warrior with say Huntsman, Omega Helm, Greaves of the Dwarf King, Indomitable Breastplate etc ... With a potion, you can achieve > 90 % DR even without a shield. You don't need fancy skills - just Resolve, Adrenaline and Inspire. I actually think against Pandora's boxes in Extreme, a bow warrior is better than a ranger. (Although, a ranger's "Hunter's prowess" is very powerful and useful against the deadly Beholder). Armor Proficiency is seriously powerful ...

I think Tartare's comment below (21 Sept) is very accurate. When I first started playing the game (in normal) I thought warriors were hopeless ... and thought the game was just about AOE spells (Hail of Arrows / Electrical Storm). Eg: 2 clerics, 1 ranger, 1 mage. I got a shock when I started playing Extreme... A warrior with 100% stun resist, 100% poison resist, >90% DR (99% with potion), 100% accuracy, Health regen and %Drain Health is exceedingly powerful (can single-handedly beat multiple bosses). For clerics, I actually think an optimum build is one that abuses the Smite skill. Use Punisher, have >100 blinding, >40 (+75) stun and move cleric to back row !!! (note these comments don't apply to FoT)

@OmarCZ: yes, the Sacred Vestments are very useful for people like me who prefer a cleric on the back row as magical support as opposed to tanking.
Also, I swear at least an eighth of the total plays are mine alone. Love this game.

The quit button needs a confirmation message. I was on wave 33 and I went to select a spell but overshot it and hit the quit button. Hours of effort gone at the push of a button. :(
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
"sacred vestments" really? only for clerics? why there is special light armor (purple and without any usable stat!!! whatsoever), for a character that can wear heavy armor? only a moron would use such armor :)

Get a Blessed Censer of the Exalted Priest-Lord on CLERIC for massive heal bonus. Tack on Protection Enchant and you've got a shield that heals. Put all stat points into END. Get armor with [Runed] and [Speed] or [Reflection], enchant them with Protection or Perseverance, and you've got a meaty Cleric that can absorb loads of damage and make it disappear on its turn. For insurance, use Signet of the Demonslayer (or Dreadfather's Visage) and enchant it with Resistance (+30% Resist against Poison and Stun). Add in Scepter of Grace and you've got 100% resistance against stun and poison. Voila, walking Fountain of Immortality.

STR Mage with Ensorcelled Blade and plenty of MP Regen is godly. Add Minotaur's Horn, Orcsbane and Accuracy Gloves and you've got a superb one-hitting boss-killer. Stack a Rogue with maxed Poisoncraft, Pestilence Blade w/ Poison Enchant, Robe of Affliction, Facemask of the Bandit Chieftain, Serpentine Band and Mythic Shadow for some awesome damage-over-time.

High level warrior with the right gear and buffs: Immune to poison. Immune to stun. 99% (maxed) damage reduction. ~20% of max HP per round in health regen. Will solo Pandora's Boxes after the rest of your team is ignominiously killed in round 3 (stupid minotaurs).

Maybe I just suck, but I can't beat the first boss. You'd think a cleric, mage, warrior and conjuror could kick in the heads of some undead but you'd be wrong. And then of course all my gear is taken once I lose to my already superior making it more impossible to kill him. I'm really not okay with losing items. It's not a good game mechanic. It doesn't make things challenging, it makes them tedious or impossible.

Last and important thing: always keep one enemy alive in the end of the wave, the weakest one. Keep passing turns until you have your characters with full health and power, or as full as you can get with one enemy attacking. Never kills the last enemy if someone is low on health or power. If someones (including golem) dies, use this time also for recasting the spells on him and making this character stronger again.

Survival mode guide: note that the enhacements that should last until the end of battle last for the whole survival mode, unless character dies. So use this spells as much as possible. I did it easily with warrior and monk in the front, conjuror and ranger in the back. Buy all items with health regeneration when possible, if not with drain health as second option; spawn a war golem in the empty position of the front line to serve as a decoy; use the warrior hability that enhace damage and the one that protects him from stun; the ranger habity to enhace quickness and the one that gives health regeneration on everyone; the conjuror hability to protect from damage; and you should do it. BTW, you choose the other habilities among the ones you like best, but DO NOT forget revive for the conjuror and the monk, and the shadow hability for the conjuror (you will need to save yourself from curses sometimes and they are the best way to do it).

Monster's Den is a really amazing game. The brilliance of it is how many skills that appear fantastic initially (normal mode) actually aren't that great. While skills that initially appear "useless" are actually fantastic in deeper levels of Extreme. My latest game just cleared level 40 with 100% clear & 100% explore on extreme (and I managed to beat a Pandora's box with 3 gorgons). Just wondering though, how exactly does Nexus Engine's Void cannon work ? It doesn't seem to miss and even worse seems to "semi-ignore" armor. I think the hardest Pandora's box on Extreme is probably Minotaur, 2 x Nexus Engine, 2 x Beholder, Orc Warlord.

Ok ffs, EVERY single time i use the special customer badge i end up clicking quit shop instead of buy/seell item, i mean, REALLY... nothing like : "Really quit the shop?" or maybe even a humble "Are you sure you wanna leave the shop?" >.< JESUS CHRIST!!

The hydra isn't that hard to beat, except when your equipment starts to get worn out from using on too many levels without replacement. But put a gorgon and a minotaur together in a pandora's box, or worse (if it can be imagined), two minotaurs, and it's really hard to beat. I have only once beat a pandora's box with a gorgon and a minotaur together, but if you have a conjuror, you can fill up the back row with characters who can fight either back or front, and then if they are all fast enough to "spell" before the enemies, the conjuror can add a summoned creature to the back. That makes five, and when the minotaur uses labyrinth, you still have some maneuvering room. But I don't think I've ever beaten two minotaurs.

One cool way to really trounce special enemies like the legendary monsters, the corruptor, the dreadfather, and to give yourself a better chance to beat pandora's box is to save up the three special potions, the elixir of speed, the snake's blood potion, and the stun resist/damage resist potion and take give as many as you have to the characters who need them most, or one of each to each character if you have them, and then go into battle all fired up. It's worth having to fight harder without the special potions on simpler battles just to see what you can do in a big battle!

Garin, could you fix the Pandora's box? I mean, I've beaten like four, and have only gotten one purple item for each one.

My favorite team is a warrior, a ranger, a mage, and a rogue. If you capitalize on each one's strengths, they really work well together.

Hey, manahimik, I finally got the Mundane Becomes Extraordinary to work, re: your advice. I made sure to at least one of both gray and white items, and it chose to purple the white item. Now I know what's what. Kuraenoken, you're right: since the last time I started a game (I played the previous one to level 101), it's gotten harder to get the last blue stone fragment to summon the dreadfather. But that's not the only thing that's gotten harder since then. The last long game I started, one reason I was able to go on so long was because I got 4 Rings of Boundless Energy, the ones that restore 100% of power and health after a battle. This has gotten harder. Now it seems that the battles with legendary creature turn up Serpentine Bands more often, which are not nearly as good. I do wonder if garin does from time to time make things more challenging, or if we're just responding to totally random events.

well i just prefer end on my warrior because my other classes are set up to do damage to the back row: he isnt. I usually just shield wall twice in a row on my warrior and by that time, they are usually dead.

why do I always need to start the game all over again if i'm playing via kongregate and my game is being saved automatically? everytime I log to continue the game, I need to start it from the start! that`s lame!

I prefer putting str on my warrior than end. For me, it's better to kill enemies faster than last longer. It's especially better with the +dmg buffs and lifesteal. If you feel your cleric is falling short on his heals, grab a censer of your level to boost your healing output by a lot. Sometimes you can get lucky enough to get a unique censer that heals 4x the censer of your level.

I have a slight, ever so slight problem with how the game mechanics work. I have a warrior and a cleric. I stack all my stat points in endurance on my warrior and all my points in intellegence on my cleric. but my heal falls behind my warriors health. right now, my cleric has intellegence stacked all the way, but his normal heal spell only heals him half way. That kind of bugs me seeing as i need my warrior to take a beating.

Maaaan.... You really don't comprehend just how powerful those orc warlords are until you get to the alliance floor. I ended up fighting an orc warlord and a dragon. And every time that dragon died the orc was sure to revive... yeah that didnt rhyme, but you get the point.

So, Kuraenoken, when you were denied the last blue stone fragment, what level did you end with before you got it? 338% of what? I actually prefer that dreadfather stuff to the contaminator or whatever he's called in the other dungeon, and I've never gotten past the tenth or eleventh level without being allowed the last blue stone. But it doesn't give it automatically on the first ten levels, it sometimes skips one, in my experience. If you've had to wait much longer, then you're right, it is a bug. But the best Monsters' Den games, probably the latest avatar of the game, are when you go in through the Kongregate link. If you go in through a link called monstrum by itself, or maybe biclops, I mean, the games play differently in several respects. Maybe that's what happened?
