I played Book Of Dread first, so i miss the feature where u can travel more than one block at a time. But anyways, extremely good game

Great original! Surprising how similar it is to book of dread, which to me means that it was so great that there was little room to improve upon. I don't miss the shop too much, but I do miss the ability to go through multiple rooms at a time (dungeon pathfinding?).
Can't wait till the third comes out.

I refuse to play this due to the lack of female character images. If you didn't put even that much thought into including half the gaming population, then I assume you didn't put that much thought into the rest of the game either.

Actually, the thing I miss most from Book of Dread is the shop. You wind up throwing away tons of items here. Still a great game.

This is an old-school game. This game was clearly made with love for old turn-based games in mind. If you enjoy Disciples, or the Bard's Tale, Wizardry or Might and Magic, or any game where you have a party of NPCs with you, you will enjoy this.
To answer Livold, who asked about scoring points: that's what the Rating button in-game is for. It's not for a New Grounds or Kongregate rating, it tells you the score rating of your party.
It tells you stuff you might not realize, like that using Shrines subtracts from your score.

Anyone who got the rate shown in kongregate was lower than your actual rating can simply refresh the page and it will record the new one

why do the badges take so long to be gotten? i have like 45000 points in hardcore and the best so far only charges 17500 ¬¬

this game is really boring especially it's an endless long game that always does the same thing(like destroying weapons, battle attacks). if it loots money instead of weapons that will improve a lot
P.S. Sacred Season has also copied the ideas while these two games are too similar, even in words.

the newer version is so much better, I wish they would just move these badges to that version. Using 20 clicks to travel to the same palce as 1 in the other version: EXTREMELY annoying. And you can't filter out types they can't use in the equip screen

Hey jymalpha, there is a followup, it's called the "Monster's Den: Book of Dread" and it's here and on other sites. It's the same basic game with a lot of updates. He's apparently been working on a sequel as well.

jymalpha, if you do not see an incentive with those 3 items, then I do not think you have been playing very long. Those items definitely have an advantage, but have a disadvantage. Which is exactly the same as anything else you would put in those slots. Ex-A censer on your cleric makes him heal for a LOT more, but does not have as much defense as holding a shield in that spot.

Great game! All the elements of an RPG or card game, whittled down to the actual fighting strategy, without the sometimes annoying distractions of side quests or buying and selling. Would like to see more spells / abilities and a greater variety of items, the same ones get boring after a while. There is no incentive to use some items (censers, battle axes, quivers) in favor of more versitile and powerful items. Bottom line: very addictive, very thorough, hope there's a follow up!

I agree, it would be nice to choose five people... my only complaint audio-wise is that the sound for bow-shots sounds extremely weak, especially compared to the melee-attack sound.

Excellent. 4/5. Would be 5/5 but since your warrior character is never able to attack do to either being absurdly slow or perma-stunned it's only 4/5

This game would be okay, but the fact that it is not always possible for you to win, and when playing on hardcore for ach. that is very annoying....2/5
