fortwente, why would you have to do 100 levels? Even the endurance badge is only 50, and to get the badges for beginner mode you only have to do 9 levels.
Anyway, brilliant game. Obviously the sequel is better, but this one's still good enough that I don't mind playing it instead until I get the bades. 5/5

please tell me i dont have to do a total of 100 lvls of EASY & HARD to get all badges...game is tooo boring/repetitive/easy...truly endurance badges.

its a good game but it gets slow and u begin to do the same things over and over again...the battles all go the same way

I don't understand why someone would give a game less stars because of the difficulty of its badges. Greg picks the badges, not the creator of the game. This game is clearly a 5/5.

4/5 This is pure RPG without everything that it dont need. As a Rpg its hard (impossible badge i mean), time consuming, and easy to load. This is games for that guys who have bad comp and still wanna play long time rpg (i think so ;P)

4 stars — Monsters' Den is a simple yet very enjoyable dungeon crawl. Its biggest problem is its badges (which are really not part of the game) for a couple reasons: (1) The first two badges are achieved for playing on the “Beginning” mode, but not on the “Standard”, “Hardcore” or “Extreme” mode. Why don’t the higher difficulty modes give the same badges? They should; (2) The final badge requires players to grind to level 50 on the “Hardcore” mode. The campaign ends at level 9 and then becomes very repetitive and boring. Grinding another forty levels to earn a badge is simply not fun. Gamers should always be having fun while earning badges, including impossible badges. The first and foremost reason for gaming is to have fun. Earning a badge should never become a chore and defeat the purpose of gaming. (Update: Decreased my rating from 5 to 4 stars because this game seems to be a clone of a more polished shareware, FastCrawl, made by Glen Pawley in 2006.)

Using a Warrior, cleric, ranger and rouge. With the rouge in the back row with a spear. Not to bad of a strategy it seems.

level 37 now, 2 days in. Have enough scrolls to jump each level to get the badge but it's quite a fun game. Repetitive yes but it's free as well. Just uped my rating from 4 to 5.

Ah yes, attack me on both my profile and the game's comment page. I said you had to work for the badge, if you don't want the badge, don't work for it. You're attacking my personal life without knowing anything about it, and by doing so making yourself look the fool.
Go get all the "fun" badges, and the rest of us can get the ones that may involve a little "work". Thanks for the great waste of my time.
And you've earned yourself a mute, good job peg.

That's just your opinion. Doesn't mean it "should" be done that way.
Simply because there are OTHER impossible badges that are more fun throughout the entire duration of getting them, doesn't mean that EVERY one has to be that way. Like it's been said, this is an endurance badge. They could've just as easily not given it any impossible badge at all, but why?
If you don't like it, go spend your time getting the "fun" impossible badges.

Also, you twisted what Finnix said. He never said playing games in general should be work. He was saying that a "super endurance impossible badge" should be. Which is an entirely different thing.
On a side note, I do agree with you about the medium/easy badges only being do-able on the beginner setting, but it's not a big deal and isn't going to be changed.

Round peg, you don't have to get the impossible badge you know. Having a badge be somewhat tedious and repetitive is no problem, especially seeing as it's an impossible badge (and an endurance one at that!). If you want to play games solely for the fun aspect and no longer, don't go for the badge.

Peg it's an impossible badge and in the description it even says that it's a "super endurance" badge. If you don't want to work for it then don't, but don't bitch about it because we sure as hell don't care that you're lazy. And playing on a higher difficulty would make the badges worth more points, why would you do the medium badge on hardcore or extreme if you can do it on easy?
You have flawed logic.
This game is awesome in almost every way, and the few flaws it does have are covered by the second one.

"5 stars – Monsters’ Den was the first flash game that I really enjoyed. The game itself is excellent and has no major flaw, but its badges have couple problems: (1) Why do players earn two badges for playing in the “Beginner” mode but not in “Standard” or “Extreme”? Players should be able to earn the badges in either mode. (2) The final badge requires players to grind to level 50 on the “Hardcore” mode. The game ends at level 9 and then becomes repetitive. Grinding to level 50 for a badge is just not fun. Gamers should have fun while earning badges. Earning a badge should not become a chore."
impossible badges are supposed to be chores, have you seen the rest of the impossible badges on the site? dolphinn olympics, amorphous+, balloon invasion... they all take extreme skill and/or time, even some luck. as for the beginnner problem, unfortunately, that would involve gain changing the API code within the game, then greg redoing the badges, its very unlikely.
