This is essentially a more accessible version of DCSS with more focus on mouse control. Love the setting things on fire mechanic - creates a whole bunch of interesting strategies that makes this feel unique compared to other roguelikes. Nothing more satisfying than setting the ground on fire and watching your enemies burn :)
Probably died like 50 times so far but having a lot of fun!

I'm a huge fan of Rogue Fable II. The added wrinkles in this one are fun, but the game is very difficult. I've only finished with mage classes and, huh, only when I find the Ring of Learning to let me level up faster. In Rogue Fable II, the key was dealing 14 points of damage a round, to clear out the maggots. If you could do that, you could win. Here, you're going to get swarmed by insane monsters eventually. I see no way for a melee class to succeed at all. So far Enchanters and Necromancers were best; the Confusion/Charm spells and Summon Skeleton did the trick. I generally miss mixing different classes by finding books, which happen rarely with this one.

Bug report: I got a toxic spellcasting ring and in the character screen it displays correctly, 14 toxic spellcasting. However, by hovering over it it displays that it as fire spellcasting.

You can get the infectious disease from your own amulet if the monsters get close. Also dominated creatures don't seem to attack anymore.

Be archer. Get to final area, clear out entrance to last room. Too laggy to use mouse so use arrow keys. Looking around for last bits of loot. Accidentally step into a pot. Game over.
Will be looking into the lag a lot once I get the bugs and crashes and such sorted out. Goal will be 60fps on any computer more powerful than a potato.

Is there a way to unequip talents? After not finding any charm for a while I finally spent a ton of money on a +3 charm of blinking, only to find that I can't use it because all my active talent slots are full, including one talent I regret purchasing and barely use, and 1 that really doesn't need a hotkey because I'm never going to untoggle it. I can switch the order around, but any attempt to bring the charm just end up returning the charm to my inventory.

When I saw this game on the Kongregate home screen I was so happy I yelled. I loved playing the second game, even though i only ever completed it once. And I can't wait to dive into this one

RickylynnC: Yup. Tried five times; the loader gets to between 95 and 99 %, then a gray box shows up on the lower right corner, and nothing more happens. Bummer. Was super-happy when I saw there was a No 3 out; have been playing RDII intermittently since it came out.

Some more tips: I suggest saving your scroll of acquirements for much later (level 10 or higher). They will start at higher enchantment levels, found a +4 War Hammer for my Barbarian because I waited. Secondly, finding the altar of archery early on is quite useful. Those ranged weapons serve two purposes, either for ranged weaponry if you lack it or a good source of income (darts come in sets of 24s, can sell them for 24 gold).

Again, great game. I particularly like the new skill mechanic and the rechargeable charm items. One trick that has greatly improved my survival rate in this game is leveling up fortitude a ton. Usually I get a decent enough spell power from class skills, so spellcasting is more of a "nice to have" than a necessity.

BTW, I would love to see a top 10 screen like in the original rogue that shows "Character X, Xth level killed by X on X level of the X dungeon." or Character X, Xth level won the game by acquiring the Goblet of Yendor in X time.
Definitely planned for the future. Its currently saving all of your previous games in order to generate the #wins, #losses, win streaks etc. so its just a matter of adding a new menu to display it.

Just finished my deepest run today down to 14/16 Yendor Vault. I had face a crystal golem 1 level up and killed it with a power shot plus a bomb. This one deflected all my bombs away so I hit it with a power shot and one-shotted myself. Having a +5 shortbow with 30 points in Ranged I critted myself for way more HP than I have. How do you kill these things?
Getting the +5 shortbow was no easy task either. I cannot figure out what to ask for from scrolls of acquisition/wishing wells. Ask for a weapon and get a melee weapon. Ask for a projectile and get consumable projectiles, which is it?
The way I got my starting bow up to +5 is as foillows. I enchanted it up to +3 with scrolls and enchanting table and next enchanting table refused to level it up anymore. Next time I asked for projectiles at wishing well, got 30 +5 javelins. I put those and my bow on a transference table and voila, +5 bow.

5)I don't get the "Random damage", not counting the "crit", i don't get why on a damage output of 10 sometime i do 3\4 damage, even more time in a raw, and other time get a nice 10 damage against the same enemy.
It dosen't feel like it's depend on enemy armor or someting like that, it's feel like just random.
6)The Vendor character sell fewer item (compared to the chapter 2) and all of them are enchanted, i wasn't able to buy nothing except for food and potion.
7)In the previus versions i was able to play with the keyboard, in this one it feels... slower and in some situations impossible cose you need to use the mouse.
Sorry for the long post and the broken english.

Mr Wang123 i'm a great fan of your works, especially of the Rogue Fable series (Chapter 2 was a masterpiece).
I have some thoughts about this one:
1)First a bug i found, if you get charmed the game freeze and you are forced to quit the game and start from the same, tha "charm" disappear and add some time at your run.
2)The game is umbalanced, i'm not complaining about the general difficulty, but a melee focused character is too hard to play compared to a ranged one.
3)Some skill of some enemy are too strong, ex the enemy healer heal too much too fast, again no problem for a ranged who can target the healer, but for a melee some time happen to fight an endless battle againt practically immortal enemy. Or the cristal golem with a deflect chance of 80% against ranged attack (even magical one).
4)Focusing a single generic talent is usless, while focusing a spell talent is very usfull ex summoning deaths.

I take back what i said about the ranger being viable. Its not. He just doesnt have any kind of damage output for lower floors.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
So the only classes that are viable are the ranger, the necromancer, and the fire/storm mages. Melee fighters cant kill archers/mages and melee combat drains your health away too quick, the ice mages spell is too short range to kill archers/mages, the enchanter has no way way to kill solo monsters, and the rogues sleep dart is basically useless since monsters wake up when attacked, and then he has the same problem as melee fighters.
The game needs a full rebalancing

@Constantine212 Is that so? Perhaps you can tell me then why my Warrior's Short Sword was doing 4 [5] damage early game? Does it have a poison DoT I'm unaware of? No, it doesn't. You just don't know what you're talking about. Allow me to explain. The bracketed numbers are your ADJUSTED damage. Which includes modifiers from your spell-casting and magic type mastery (in MeltingEclipse's example, Toxic Mastery.) Melting, the 2 damage was the DoT from the poison. The only thing I don't like, is it doesn't give you an idea of what kind of defenses enemies have or what works better against certain enemy types.
