part 1
oh, so I also just remembered. I had an amazing realistic moment happen (it was also kind of stupid but I enjoyed it for how realistic it was).
I walked into a room with a bunch of blade traps and 4 gas vents... I cautiously walked in towards the chest in the middle (by cautious I mean I tried blast activating the traps). I found a clear walk path in and knew even if the gas activated I could run out in time... and had toxic resist and health items if i got caught a round or two in it.
I walked in, went to the chest and activated everything... then I made for the exit and suddenly rather then path out my char starts blasting the trap just by the exit (i had to diagonal step to get in so id have to diagonal step to get out) and just... here I am frantically clicking thinking 'WHAT WHY, MOVE MORON' in a state of panic rather then really looking at what or why.

I keep having trouble moving things around for quick slot... when I got to click and move something it just sets it to active item.
also, there has been several times I wished I could attack the ground with a basic fire attack for either cloud cover or terrain flammables... but I cant unless I have fireball, fire bolt, or a exploding item to hit... I'd love to see this open up to allow ground attacks.

Tip: strafe attack works with melee, too, and you can use that to deal with crystal golems (or any melee enemy really, though it works best against slow ones). It takes a bit of space to move, but you can let them get to a square right next to and diagonal from you, and then move away horizontally or vertically. E.g. if they're in the square just southeast of you, move west or north.

I must be playing the barbarian wrong. I'm stubborn so I just kept at it and finally won on my 15th or 16th try, but the ONLY reason I made it was finding a +4 electric axe. That along with Strafe got me through. Seriously though, what is the strategy with the barbarian? Other classes I can make work with whatever gear and just altering my idea of how the class should play out, but the barbarian can't use ANY mana/spell casting objects so 60% of what you find is useless.

This game isn't that hard, it just takes a while to figure it out. Prioritizing your life is the most important thing. Get your health up, get skills that are useful when available (Mezmerise, sprint, anything that affects your entire visible range (there's one that freezes the entire screen), confusion), make sure you get good charms too (confusion, blink). Don't always waste a key if you have the opportunity, sometimes there's nothing good there. Use exp shrines smartly, if there's a stone door wait for that to use it. You can sideways walk, not all enemies can (so you can get free hits with ranged weapons). If you don't have a spell that can put most enemies to sleep, freeze them, or confuse them, you'll definitely need sprint to escape them. You don't really need to use scrolls in the first 10 levels. HP potions should generally be used to increase max hp. Some characters need to buy all the food they can from merchants. Books are very important. That's all I got.

Could somebody help me understand how I get back to the main branch after completing an optional side dungeon? I cannot seem to find any other steps down besides that dungeon.

Jesus christ, I wasn't even trying to play fast but finished sewers and the core and won with warrior in 53:21. Had a shocker axe (sewers easy) and 3 fire resistance (core easy). By the end I had somewhere around 13 protection 13 evasion +5 shock axe for 39 damage hits with 166 max health, got the sprint and berserk skills, and had a RIDICULOUS amount of single use items left over, fear scrolls, THREE confusion wands, etc. This run was insane!

the dev probably means well, but to play this game you need to enable 3rd party cookies in your browser and by doing so, you enables even worse tracking of everything you do elsewhere. please stop requiring this justin_wang123!

The first to get under 45 minutes, was the Warrior, because I found it pretty easy with him. The real challenge is Barbarian, I love playing with him!

The melee classes are indeed under-powered, but you probably do not need a lot of luck if you stock up on scrolls and pick up sprint and charges early.

Running latest chrome build on w10, for some reason the game wouldn't open until I restarted the page. Not an adblocker conflict or a flash problem as far as I can tell.

FINISHED! With a Ranger! Got lucky with a Long Bow, Enchantments (Scrolls, Table, Transference TWICE), and a Book of Death allowing me a wall of skeletons between me and my targets! Tunnel Shot saved my butt more than a dozen times! Food was surprisingly never a problem; the Merchant was selling for a Warrior, so even he was a grocer! So much fun!

Maybe I can't understand melee classes but isn't inbalance pretty ridiculous? As long as you have basic understanding of game Necromancer,Enchanter and Ranger are easy mode. Three elemental mages are more or less normal mode. But rogue, barbarian and warrior are like nightmare mode, where even when you know everything about this game, you still need even more luck than skill.

Also, poison should hit the enemy every turn; currently if you attack an enemy, they take no poison damage for that turn.

Love the game! Though really wished there was a more climactic boss battle at the end. Currently, you spend an hour or so, get to the end and it just... ends. Great game, really rewarding, one of the best on the site. Just wish there was more to that ending behind the triple doors.

When you charm a Fire Elemental, they'll start pumping out fireballs that chase you around because they're charmed, too. A good way to die.

For those wanting a harder dificulty, go try to do all the side dungeons, and if youve done that, try doing it with rogue or warrior

stuck in the arcane tower, surrounded by lava, and can't get to an exit. suggestions? no teleport or blink scrolls in inventory.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
can you change it when an ice bomb is placed by an enemy, auto explore stops so i dont run face first into a pile of enemies

Love this game. But there's some serious movement issues when having levitate. A lot of the time it's not possible to move diagonally when levitating. Looking forward to the Steam release.

Ring of the vampire does NOT work with some weapons. Or maybe it doesn't work at all, anyway i am using melee (Storm Chopper, Inferno Sword) Not gaining any hp on attacks... wtf??

Some nasty strategy for this game. 1. Scrolls of enchantment can refill the charges of wands. A useful combo is to repeatedly enchant a ward of confusion which causes a large number of enemies to beat each other to death. 2. For scrolls of acquirement, I usually pick up the scrolls type, seems to me it's the most beneficial as almost all of them can deal with a large pack of enemy. 3. For ring of learning it's better off only equip it before you open gates with some monsters rather than equipping it all the time.

Nevermind. I thought it's all legends, but apparently it's true: If you complain hard enough, RNG rolls in your favour. Beat the game the exact try after I posted the complaint. As a fire mage. With an ice staff. Woot.

Any chance of an endless/infinite mode? After finally getting a win after 25 deaths, it was kind of disappointing to see the run end, especially in such an anticlimactic manner.

Maybe I just suck at this game but is it me or is starting all over again from level one while at the same time being constantly swarmed by enemies REALLY irritating?
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
@Spewis: I had the same issue, until someone pointed out that you can walk on dangerous terrain using shift+click. That being said, it seems a bad design that you reach the end of an "sidequest" and you have to take damage to get your reward (both in the core and in the arcane tower). Some sort of bridge should be made available once you get rid of them all.

@SwiftL4 A few tips: Use the environment to your advantage. Lure ranged units around a corner. Don't stand on unstable ground as it will let melee units crit every time. A bit of protection on a mage is worth the loss of spell power.

Excruciating. Over 30 runs, I'm nowhere closer to passing level 4-5. Getting gud is one thing, I'm really trying. But this is just underwhelming...
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Bug: the Greater Staff of Storms seems to be basing its damage (as indicated in the mouseover text) purely on the spell power stat, and ignoring the storm power stat that it's supposed to be based on. With spell power 14 and storm power of 21 (including the +3 boost from holding the staff), the damage of the +1 staff I have is listed as 4[7] when, if it were based on storm power, it should be 4[8].
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Just FYI, got a +3 greater staff of storms that didn't use the storm damage multiplier like the regular staff of storms does. Only the magic power multiplier. Haven't seen this behavior in anything else...

@WellBehavedDingo I believe the helm of telepathy allows you to view enemies out of your sight on the minimap (like keen hearing, but the whole stage)
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Having time challenges goes against the extra levels. It would be better to have 100% complete challenges or something different.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Finally beat it. Great game! Needs some kind of ending sequence as a reward. You know maybe credits with a cool song or something. Also, it'd be nice to be able to continue infinitely with harder and harder enemies.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
I'll be honest I have won 3 times so far due to just flat out upgrading the skeletons and focusing on mana cap while spamming out nothing but skeletons. Cheap? Maybe but its effective.
