Had the same problem loading the class, instance, ship, etc...
Make sure you saved the Ship.sa file in the same folder as your Game.swf (or whatever you named it)
You might be trying to save your game in your own folder, but Flash automatically pics a folder in your Documents and you might be saving both to seperate places...make sure everything's in the same folder
I fixed this and my test worked.

has anyone gotten some sort of "toplevel.as could not be found, which is required for typechecking actionscript 2.0"
its on cs4 and add a shout to me if you know how to solve the problem or something

this is great!!:D i got everything to work eventually...i had to work through some errors though...i have 1 problem--i need to make the background of the ship i drew transparent--shout @ me if you know how please!!!

Hey guys, for those of you that are getting the syntax error at _x=_x+velocity
you might want to check that the .fla file you've created is an actionscript 2 file rather than action script 3

If you are having a problem, check your brackets and spacing. Flash coding IS case sensitive and it does not auto correct spacing errors.

I'm having some trouble on slide 9-I cant show movie because of an error that says that the "interface 'Ship' cannot be read." ANY HELP FROM ANYONE AT ALL WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. Thank you:)

I got the error:
"relative path is 'Ship.as'.
class Ship extends MovieClip
Total ActionScript Errors: 1 Reported Errors: 1"
Both the ship movie file and the .as are both named "ship". Help???

OKAY HE IS HOW YOU SOLVE THE AGE OLD PROBLEM: Symbol=Ship, layer=layer1, frame=1, line=1" The class or interface 'ship' could not be loaded. Both .fla and .as file is named accordingly.
WHEN YOU DOWNLOAD THE SHIP PICTURE, AND YOU TRY AND NAME OF SHIP IN YOUR FLASH PROJECT SOMETHING OTHER THAN ship IT WILL COME UP WITH THIS ERROR, THUS RENAME THE PICTURE OF THE ship TO WHAT YOUR GOING TO USE IN YOUR FLASH PROJECT! And use lowercase letters in both names. =D

every time i click test movie on page nine and it is supossed to move back and forth .. all that happens is a picture of my ship and a little tab that says...The class or interface 'movieClip' could not be loaded... please i need help i named the page with my little ship on it, ship,and the one with the writing on it i named it ,ship.as, So then i click test movie and nothing but a image of my ship and this message...The class or interface 'movieClip' could not be loaded... please help

I get to the bit where you have to type in all the codes and get confused. The ship is meant to move but it dosent. Anybody help?

To simplify things, since there was already a ship and you had to rename it earler (i named my movieclip Craft), then the .as file has to be named accordingly (ex Craft.as)
