Description
Entry for Kongregate Game Jam 2 (2016)
Get ready to set foot into your worst nightmare. Be terrorized by your creepy phobias, as they try to dive into your subconscious and take over your spirit.
In “10 Aspects of Fear” you play the role of Ethan, a young mortal who is experiencing a deep terrorizing trauma in his darkest nightmare. The character is traveling, through a dream, into his subconscious where he discovers his deepest and most frightening phobias which he is about to face.
As a hopeless mortal in some vast dreading illusion, feeling out of control, you will find yourself in a room with different doors. Each of them contains one of your disturbing fears which will enter, one by one. Your salvation lies within one of the doors, who will act as a purging dimension for each of the threatening phobias. Be quick enough to trick each of them into getting as close as possible to that opening, so they will be dissolved into the light. Nevertheless beware… because sinister events could be lurking into your mind meanwhile. The entities will stop at nothing from forcing you to surrender to madness, and eventually… become one of them.

One thing is the text boxes that have to be clicked through to continue gameplay. It probably would've been better to have them displayed in a way that didn't interfere with gameplay. The game mechanic was a poorly explained (it took me a while to figure out that you need to open a door to drive out a spirit) but I like the idea! It's a nice offshoot of "bullet hell" mechanics.

Is there a different between the three game modes? They all seemed the same. The controls were also a little difficult to use as well.
There is a small difference between them, not much tho. The most obvious one would be the 3rd one, where you have an indirect control of the main character. Unfortunately, we didn't manage to build more complex mechanics in time for the game jam. But we hope you like the experience anyway :) Cheers, Merging Tides team

Nice concept! I especially liked the third mode as you struggle against the game to control your character. Seeing the pop-up intro text for each phobia got annoying after further replays though. Great work!

The third mode you have to close the door before he gets to it and also open doors by the fears in order to make them leave.
