Some of the classes are too dependent on luck just to survive, even with decent skill. Getting to world 4 with Rogue is a feat in itself, but then suddenly every single enemy would take out >40% of your health with one hit, so I'm forced to steal cards almost every turn just to prevent the enemy from dealing damage. Death seems guaranteed within 1-2 fights after I empty out on energy, never made it to 4-10, let alone complete the game, with Rogue ever since Amplify got implemented.

Just got soft locked by a vengeful spirit because i was using only enflame and it can only increase card draws on hit or with 5 cards, at 9 cards it got a flush and reduced by 5 so now it cant increase cards to attack again and i cant do damage because it wont use any cards to pop my enflame.

Not a huge fan of the new fire burst from damage. The way it was before was better. If you can set it to only have the fireburst when damaged by fire, that would be cool, but a burst of flame from daggers and swords is weird. Still love this game, play every day!

Actually, poison, enflame and curse could give perfect kills, too. Alternatively, the snake can get a buff for +2 Anemic and cheaper upgrades.
As it stands, say 70% of your moves are battles, and 70% of them are perfect kills - meaning you get about 50% more food as Bard, allowing you to use the snake in every second battle. It's not powerful enough to spend an equip slot and use it that rarely. In most bard runs, I replace and kill it.
Also, sword of perfection is not worth buying even with a discount -- should it give +2 coins (since scythe gives +1 food = +2.5 coins)?

@Nillnoe
And there are plenty of ways to survive 100+ damage. Upgraded shields that scale well, like the rainbow or even Knight's coupled with church upgrades; block mastery lets you build up the shield; attack resistance, weak, and tough from the guild; stun as you mentioned; consumables that apply any of these effects; card manipulation (discard, cycle) that stops the attack from happening.
There are but a few enemies that hit for 100+ -- and plenty of ways to deal with them. Many of them are "charging" -- those you are supposed to kill before they attack, or spend resources on avoiding the attack (with a consumable for example). Others have their powerful attacks conditional on rare combinations of cards, inviting you to control the combinations with discard and cycle.

@Nilloe
That's how roguelikes work.
There are situations where death is unavoidable -- but at every step of the way, there are decisions you can make to minimize the probability of ending up in these situations.
Buy a crappy shield, not a really nice discounted sword in the first shop. Stock up on consumables -- and use them to get out of tricky situations. Save some gear so that you can adjust your loadout to match the enemies you encounter. Get that +1 vision, +1 gem draw -- they pay off often.
If you're playing a character with no sustain, choose your enemies carefully in the beginning, and try to find sustain items (health, block) quickly.

This Game really rocks. Totally love it <3
One little thing to make it even better would be a ranking board for the Daily run ;)
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
@LABoogie the thing with low win% at least for me is most of my losses are in act 1 oftentimes due to completely RNG early monsters hitting for like 40 with most classes lacking any reliable early block/stun to prevent those. Well and some later monsters hitting for 100+ so the only possible counter if they do attack is stun.

@FullMetalPotato same goes for temples too. Would kinda be neat since he already has a hard time getting perfect kills due to his other source of damage (poison) stealing kills.

It would be nice if Aces counted as either 1 or 11 for Perfect Kills. It's noticeable with the new bard character. If an enemy has say 6 health and you kill them with 5,A on the Scythe, it doesn't give you a Perfect Kill as it automatically deals 16 damage rather than 6. In other places in the game A can count as 1 for making up an exact number to activate an item, so it'd be nice if perfect kills matched that principle.

One could argue that the beginning of the game is much harder than the end -- may be there are some things that can be done about that.
One idea would be 'paths' with stronger enemies and bigger rewards -- analogous to the subdungeons of the DCSS -- that'd be optional but help you defeat the stronger enemies in the endgame. This + stronger enemies in the endgame could make stages 3 and 4 fun again...
Also what could help is enemies resistant to stun or completely resistant to certain types of attack. Kraken can be defeated by any hero with 2-3 stuns to throw at it, and the final boss shouldn't be that way...

5% win rate is more than enough -- it includes all the people dying on their first try, or just being very bad at the game.
My win rate is around 30-50%, with 4/12 wins for the daily challenges. If the difficulty goes down even more, the game will become boring.
"It's just luck, I don't find it fun" comment appears for each and every one roguelike. But it's the toughest of them that we keep playing over and over -- adom, dcss, nethack.
Also - again - there was charm in the original uncolored drawings on colored backgrounds. I miss them.

I'm really curious about the direction this game is taking. Knight is being nerfed because it has a 30% win rate while the other classes have a 5% win rate? Isn't 5% kinda low to begin with? I'm getting the impression that this game is being updated to make it as difficult to win as possible, but not to a reasonable extent either. I don't feel like the game is becoming more challenging, but rather more and more reliant on luck.

not a huge thing. If I have enhanced aces or something and visit the temple of aces, I'm still called a heretic and have to fight.
Really good game

Deuces wild can be used indefinitely in a combat at first, but if you upgrade it it limits its use to 2, 3 and 4 times in a match respectively.

I love all the changes. Curse not applying during cooldown is a great improvement. But could you also make curse not apply when a card is still charging? The Stuncrown is much riskier to equip as things are.

when you mouse over "healing" on the potion of healing it says "at campsites, you heal 30% of your life, instead of 15%". its not a bug, but it is weird

Fantastic game, in depth combat (I even gave the game 5/5 stars). However, there is not any permanent bonuses, and upon completion or death you start all the way over. Thus, this game is not for me. However, this is perfectly fine, because I guarantee this game will be perfect for many of you out there. I have added this game to my steam wish list and you should too- this game is on the verge of greatness.

Great game, but I've had the same bug a number of days in a row now; I play a few runs, get XP and unlock several characters. Come back to the game the next day and it has lost all progress.
When I try to export my data it can't load the website. running on Safari, Catalina - always a chance its due to the browser?

What a great game! Very well done!
@Playsaurus: I have encountered a minor glitch. After playing the hard game twice I finished the game (Farthest Knight has reached: Victory). I got loads of XP and unlocked the first few characters. Now, when I try to select any of them, I get: "You are level 1. Reach level 2 to unlock Rogue. Progress: 1710 / 150.
Can you please look into this so that I can start playing with your other characters? Thanks!

finally beat a round using the bard. i think it says something about how broken that character is that it took 30+ tries, with >90% ending before finishing world 1. The time I finally beat it, I used the "no equipment+bottle shop" mod, basically having to hack the bard into a semi-useful character
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
It's fun, but there are too many broken parts in the game mechanics - some are just glitches (ace of hearts in every hand on daily run not showing up on every hand, three cards appearing with gem instead of two...), some are not even beta state (dodge and charm don't seem to make sense for players as they play before the ennemi). And the balance drastically changes from update to the next...

An immediate favorite. I absolutely love this genre, and Poker Quest shows great potential, even in its early alpha state!

It keeps telling me I've unlocked Rogue, but when I go to start a run, the Rogue is still locked. I'm halfway to Wizard and still can't Rogue.

Is anemic now broken? Using the huntress with world modifier that prevents enflame, freeze, and poison from decaying (for both combatants) and I found pet snake along the way. every single time I used pet snake, anemic did not increase the poison by 20%.

Game loop in the beginning is way too boring. Spam cards on sword, etc. Not enough variety early / fights are too long. Speed it up and start with a more random spread of items.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
For those having problems unlocking other characters, try this: Start a new game and then go to your settings. Start another new game from there. It should unlock new characters.

I seem to also have the same problem as WillH100. After going through the little animation that shows me how much exp I accumulated, and after unlocking the next character, I go to the "standard run" screen to see the next character (Rogue) still behind a lock. It shows the progress bar at 1040/150.

I agree with eleis that the values for face cards (king, queen, jack) and aces should be just slightly more accessible in things other than the pop up descriptions. I do enjoy those pop up descriptions, and they help quite a bit to introduce new effects.
