A sig is a soldier with a radio - can use him & an officer to radio airplanes etc.
To advance move your soldiers up to top of screen and then move each soldier as far into the black surrounding bas as possible- best I can explain im afraid..make sure to move ALL soldiers up as screen wont advance until you do - also time it so no germans are on screen or they get left behind and count against you

This may sond stupid but how do you advance? Ive played this game for awhile but only sometimes do randomly. How do you?
