Oh, and the clock continues to count down while the lag is occuring, so I basically have to kill some POWs to finish the mission, because I run out of time.

Yeah, I think the multiple units cause lag. This makes the rescue mission sort of hectic since you're skipping and there's gunfire everywhere.
