Will the website shut down or will it stay

I doubt it will last beyond 2020.

Yeah, exactly. But for now it will just be not accepting new games and badges, and disabling it's most of social features, but the site will stay, yes. But, as said above, I doubt it will last when the flash shuts down.

i like to think of it as milking a dead cow, once people get bored of the current games its finished there is no new life coming for old games, and that will be the end, no more milk to be drained

It's removing a lot of incentive for people to come back and visit the site by removing the chat rooms, forums and the ability to upload new games. The site will completely shut down eventually once its user traffic has declined to a minimum and the least amount of people would be affected by just getting locked out cold turkey. At least doing it this way gives people time to move on before they can never come back again.

Most likely by the end of the year. There truly is no reason for any new person to make an account here now, and management gave a big screw you to the current community by removing features that cost barely anything to maintain. They even closed some mmo chat rooms, which is the player base that is responsible for almost their entire source of income.
This can be compared to a liquidation sale. The company is just getting rid of everything it has in a last ditch effort to scrape together a few dollars, before turning the lights off for the final time.
Kongregate will be effectively dead by the end of the year. My guess is it will still be up in 2021, but it will be almost unrecognizable. They might even change the name, because now the name "Kongregate" is forever tainted, and they will want to move away from it.

The forums are being locked. It's related to this right? Damn, I was just about to post to find a collab :(
edit: yep I saw it later. I just don't understand the reasoning :/

Most of these games were working under flash, and since flash will stop-dead at the end of the year, kong won't survive.

Watching a website I played on as a kid come crashing to the ground so suddenly makes me just unbelievably sad. I have nothing to hope for. There is nothing. This is the end. Goodbye friends, it was nice, and you were kind.

for me, this is the opposite. i haven't been on long, but i love kongregate. a few funny moments in the chats added to this and you have an amazing place all in one month. it'll be sad for me too for this to crash, but i know that it won't be so easily put away for people who were on here fora long time, such as drummer doge here. my only hope is that sites like bing or yahoo that'll probably still run flash won't have kongregate die on them. and with that, i say goodbye to kongregate, and goodbye to you guys. have fun out there.

I think the core website itself will stay. Just that and like what has already been done in some parts of the site, the admins will be deleting some key features due to player platform evolution.

I never want this site to shut down. this is 100% of games on my mac. This is the only place that has alot of fun games, and those are hard to find these days. So Kongregate, please, please, don't shut down.

Damn, feels like an end to an era. Sad to see because i couldnt imagine my life different growing up without flash games. Of couse nowadays kids are pampered with much better games in terms of graphics and design but there was always something so much better about flash games back then. Oh well, Goodnight and farewell.

I still like flash games more than any other game genre. I really can't imagine my childhood without logging onto kong pretty much every single day, getting badges here and there, and just having hilarious and truly memorable chats with so many people. I grew up with kong. The discord servers are fine for some communication with people, but it will never be the same. There's been a lot of things in my life that have changed and I've had to not show that I was really sad, or show that I've moved on and I'm perfectly ok without, but this is completely different. Maybe if a few of the users could buy the rights to kong and everything that goes with it, we could keep this alive, if even just as a place for people who want to remember or play their old favourite games. But that's a pretty far cry.

If nothing else, there's the [Supernova SWF Player](https://www.getsupernova.com/download/) so we can keep playing the games when flash is killed.

It will probably shut down. Unless Kongregate cares enough to include some link to some third-party flash-playing tool, in order for people to quickly and easily load the games - and not get dishearted by the "FLASH IS DEAD, BOOYAH! BOOYAH!" vibe that is circulating the intermet. Newgrounds have already made their own flash player, which of course is not to be expected by Kongregate. We'll be lucky if they even post some link.
I would say it will last at least until mid-21 though, probably even '22 or '23. Depending on how Kartridge goes, which I don't think will be a success as well.

Some of the games I would play regularly here are already not playable. Adventure Capitalist now just shows the phone app add links. :(

AdCap on Kong has been abandoned by their developers years ago. It became unplayable when the one Unity player plugin was discontinued, but it was already far behind in features long before that and it was impossible to progress beyond a certain point within a natural human lifespan.

The latest version of Vivaldi browser, which is Chromium based, seems to have killed Flash altogether with its most recent updates. Even enabling Flash in settings won't let it run. The beginning of the end...
