As most of you know, Adobe (the owners of Flash) are going to be shutting Flash down soon. They have given two deadlines: Dec. 31, and a second and more final deadline of Jan. 12.
Kongregate is going to be implementing a system using the SuperNova SWF Enabler, a downloadable product that will allow players on PCs to continue accessing Flash content. We anticipate having this ready by Jan. 12.
**Why wasn't this announced sooner?**
Some details of this were up in the air until this last minute. Also, we hoped to be able to announce it when it was already live, but the project was delayed and so is not yet ready.
**What about players who use Macs?**
Our Director of Engineering has looked everywhere and has not found a viable product that enables players using Macs to continue accessing Flash content. SuperNova is promising to develop a version for Macs, and we certainly hope that works out.
**Will the badge search tool be updated to allow players to exclude Flash games?**
We would love to do that, but doubt we'll have engineering resources to do so.
**What about Badges of the Day?**
BotDs will continue as they have been. We will not be excluding Flash games from the BotD cadence; simply put, we don't have enough badges in non-Flash games for this to be feasible. We realize this will make Kongpanions un-earnable for Mac players, but we have not found an alternative. **This section is no longer accurate. See update in post from 1/23. **
**What about Quests?**
We will not be updating the existing quests and do not plan to add any new quests.

UPDATE: We are currently planning to deploy the changes tomorrow (US Pacific time zone).
Also, to be transparent: there will be a percentage of games (about 20% of Flash titles) that simply won't work with SuperNova even when it is correctly installed. We have worked to make sure that significant Kongregate games (ones with badges and virtual goods) are whitelisted and accessible, but it's certainly possible that there will be glitches or oversights.

Additional update: SuperNova works only for the Chrome and Microsoft Edge browsers. There is a plan to create a version that works on Firefox, but it's still in the works.

**UPDATE regarding badges and Badges of the Day**
There was a misunderstanding between the engineering team and me. Simply put, I believed Flash badges would be earnable using SuperNova because I had not heard otherwise; the engineering team knew they would not be earnable and assumed that I knew that as well.
With this new (to me) information, we have needed to revisit how we'll be handling BotDs. Even though we have relatively few easy or medium non-Flash badges (just over a hundred), we're going to change the BotD selector so that it only selects badges from non-Flash games. This means badges will come up more often (about once every three months or so) than they have in the past.
This engineering work will begin next week and should (hopefully!) be completed by the end of the first week of February.
