So, I got on this morning to the game saying I cheated and it reset all my non-prestige progress. I understand there are people that use outside programs to manipulate progress, but damn, surely there's a better way to go about preventing and punishing those players.
Losing several days worth of progress is harrowing...

I have to agree with Mason.
When it comes to gaming, anti-cheat devices are kind of an unneccessary step, unless the game has a heavy interactive, multiplayer influence, and is required to keep players in line. Single player gaming (high score list and leaderboards really doesn't count as an online play) really does not have that high of a need to hunt down and punish cheating players.
There are dozens of ways for people to simply cheat themselves into higher stats and higher scores, everything from Cheat Engine to simply changing the clock, digging directly into the code, and so on and beyond. You can't completely stop cheaters, you can only stop the obvious ones. And I'm all for making it hard to cheat. But issuing punishment upon cheaters really doesn't help in any way, especially if something beyond a player's control somehow trips a flag, like daylight savings screwing with the clock and causing this reset that Mason had happen to them. (I guess it was a Daylight Savings occurrence, considering the circumstances.) You only hurt the legitimate players, and make the cheaters try harder or change their strategy.
If there are anti-cheat measures, it only makes sense to disclose this information rather than have it set as a 'trap' to be triggered. Such as making a disclosure or a warning of how the game detects cheats, and listing the penalty when the game detects said cheat. Players should be given awareness to the risks of 'cheating' and able to easily discern if something went wrong. If Mason had his status reset and he doesn't even know why, then who knows how many others had the same happen to them and they simply quit and 1-starred the game, rather than bring it up as a possible bug?

Lmao just dont cheat. Stop trying to justify the penalty and eat another cheeseburger.

If you like cheating in games and you meet an obsticle... do you just give up or do you take on the challenge?
The game meant to be played, even though cheating in it is extremely easy with the right tools.

Its a funny situation, this "anti cheat" system. I've gotten such vehement opinions from both sides --- why bother to penalize cheaters if thats what they want to do, but also cheating ruins the game and should be punished. I have my own personal opinions, but I am still grappling with whether the anti-cheat is **good or bad** for the health of the game. I guess we'll have to see in the future if I decide to remove it/lessen the penalty.

Whether the anticheat system stays as is or changes, I still feel it would be good to have the information readily available to those on what constitutes as a cheat, and the penalty that occurs due to it.
I haven't tripped any cheating flags, and hope to not do so (put $10 into this game to get the cash shop goods), but it would make sense to have a tab in the Help page or somewhere else easy to find, that has info on all the different flags of what is considered cheating, to help people know and avoid those situations. I still don't know if my original guess that Mason triggered a clock-changing cheat due to an unfortunate Daylight Savings occurrence, though it makes the most sense considering when his post was.

The issue wasn't that I was cheating. I wasn't. I think that somehow daylight savings time shift triggered it.

I would be surprised if daylights savings affected it at all. I specifically have it coded so it needs "negative 100 hours" of away time, and that can only be achieved if you tamper with the system clock.
Regardless, for the exact reason **SpencerDragon** mentioned, I will be removing anti cheat **just because I dont want to risk the chance of people who spent $ losing their progress wrongfully**

Cheaters goes full mental cause they cannot cheat, proceeds to cry on the forums that they're unable to cheat. Sadness.
I dont get why you've intended to remove your anti-cheat system. First of all, if you let cheaters cheat- they'll obviously "finish" your game faster. They'll be gone by tomorrow cause either "finishing" or quitting cause they lost their progress. its a lose lose situation. There's no reason to attempt constructing your game for cheaters.
You're literally "shortening" the games lifetime **AND**, for your sake, reducing the amount of MTX purchases. Why should someone spend $20 dollars, when they can just cheat it. Top of that, its not tempting to buy currencies when its this simple and "allowing" to cheat it for free.
This is just sad all along.

It's an idle game. If someone is going to cheat on an idle game, they'll cheat on every game. I don't cheat as there is no fun in it. Kong should let the devs clear the high score board of cheaters and/or ban then from playing their game.

I don't care about cheaters myself, but I'm more worried about triggering 'anti-cheat' flags because it's happened way more than I feel comfortable with, and if you see my placement in the current leaderboards it's obvious I'm not cheating either. But the sheer amount of times that I get a flag tripped to make the game believe I cheat, it's put a paranoid fear into me that one day I'll log in and suddenly, all that progress, gone.
For example: in Idling to rule the gods, where I logged in one day and because I had a high God Point count from grinding a cheeky quick-rebirth method, it called me out for cheating thinking I altered my GP amount, and locked my godpower, forever. I never got a response back from the dev petitioning about it, so I never played the game again.
Cheaters will never spend money, people who like the game will always spend money in it. You only lose out on 'try-hard's buying unrealistic amounts of in game currency to dominate the leaderboards.

You''re doing a terrible job attempting of strawmanning this situation.
It's plain obvious, that in your previous post- the whole theme is that you're having a 'big bad' ego trip with the fact it was a hidden anti-cheat system implemented that no one knew about untill a cheater somehow thought it was smart to cry about it on the forums(????). Now because you've invested alot of time (like many others), you're getting paranoid (**quoting you**) that you'll trigger the system and now creating a big fuss about it.
Considering after all **200k+ players** the game has had throughout its lifetime, 1 player thought it was very smart to "fiddle" with something- triggering the system & cry about it on the forums. After scrolling through the comment section I cant even find someone who has been affected by this.
Isn't it pretty simple? Dont fiddle with the savefile, dont fiddle with the clock & dont do anything stupid and you're not going to trigger the anti-cheating system. Its a reason why its called anti-cheating. Imagine creating such a big fuss purely of selfishness.

I only cheat when im just tired and exhausted of climbing un climbable walls. Then i TRY to cheat cause im just a lammer who never tried to even begin to learn how to cheat. Ive been using CE for like 10 years and just a month ago somebody explained to me that i was "modifying" the memory of my own computer... And i thought to myself (what a wonderful world) WTF is he saying LOL. But yeah i just use "cheats" when the game becomes unbearable so i can move on onto the next game. Cause lets be honest there are tens of thousands of games out there ...IDK im just one of those who like playing a game for not more than 1-2 months... After that its like, "meh.. Im bored lets move on..." So yeah i cheat just to make the game faster .. OFC people says "hahahah u cheat u suck", Ehm .. yeah .. i cheat .. cause i dont want to spend u$s100 on the game ... Im already paying for Internet... If id like spend $$ on games i most certainly not use it here in Kongregate. WELL .. THERE ARE EXCEPTIONS.. Like Gemcraft For Example and a very very very few more .. So .. i cheat .. cause i want to move on.. How to move on well get everything in the game... To get everything without spending 3 years in an idle game u just have to spend real cash or cheat.. Cheat its like not spending money in the game and getting the cash perks ..
And after all this if i loose my save and miraculously i dont have a backup save or i start over cause the game is AWESOME (Cause i DO start games all over again after 1 - 2 - 3 years of not having play it) or just move on onto the next one ..
Besides i really like people who gets extremely wrathable saying U MUST NOT CHEAT OR U WILL GO TO HELL, YOU ARE RUINING THE GAME. LEAVE NOW U ARE HERESY!!!!!! hahah, its so cool.
Also Ty very much for letting me know there is an anti-cheat system. Even more reason to try to cheat it LOL.
