I did testing within AL3 on AL2, and now tested within AL4 on Al3. Here are my findings:
Summary:
- on highest two AL you want to use 1-3-7 (im assuming if 1-3-7 is better for 2nd highest layer, then it should be true also for the most highest layer)
- on all other AL (not two highest) you want to use n+1 from the start: 1,2,4,8,16 etc.
- example, if your on AL3 highest then you should use 1-3-7 on AL3 and AL2. Another example, if your on AL4, you want to use 1-3-7 on Al4 and AL3, but n+1 on AL2.
- you probably want to plan your points, example, 3 Al4 points is best to do 1-3-7-14 on AL3. 3 Al3 requires 6611 AP3 and with 1-3-7-14 and then n+1 you end up at 6,655.
- long run is viable somewhere between 18,5k - 35k AL2 claimed (18,5k i tested and speed run was better, but at 35k long run was better) - i dont know where the minimum is.
Current findings:
- N+1 is better than 1-3 or 1-3-7 with enough stat points as base (example, n+1 on AL2 with 6-8 AL3 stats is better than 1-3 or 1-3-7 on AL2)
- N+1 is better than 1-3 or 1-3-7 on AL2 with 0 AL3 and 1 AL4 (so 1 AL4 seems like enough stat base to push n+1 on AL2)
Tested 2d15 with 1 AL4:
- n+1 gave 18 Al3 points
- 1-3 and then n+1 gave 19 Al3 points
- 1-3-7 gave 22 (almost 23) Al3 points (which is suprising as the 7 run was very long and overkill, seemed like it will come out last)
Rough notes on long runs:
- To quote eQueline "ap/h is better at pl135" "from 750-124-10-1" until n+1 (using even/odd 4)
- To quote Frogger 516,215,15,1 on stats (speed4)
no long runs until:
- AL1 has at least e5 for max discount multi
- AL2 n+1 limit is in tens of thousands
- AL3 limit is in hundreds
- seems like around PL68-72 with 50-100k of AL2, preferably in the higher range?
- Best autobuyer setup for long runs seems to be L5 exclusive.
some tests:
- in my testing so far long run was slightly ahead with 35k banked in AL2 and half of that unclaimed
- another test after showing that long run is even better with 72k banked in AL2 and 12k unclaimed - AL1 banked 5.5e5 and 3e6 unclaimed
- and yet another, 38k banked and 5k unclaimed was best and beat fast running by an hour on a total 3h30 min run
Another test: x.163.15.1 with IFS4 and odd/even4, 74k claimed AL2, 420 claimed AL3
- speed test, 4h34 - 51,7k AL2 unclaimed
- long run start at 1k unclaimed - 59k unclaimed in 4h36
- 2k - 75k in 4h21
- 3k - 76k in 4h21
- 4,1k - 79k in 4h38
- 5k - 80k in 4h46
- 6,2k - 80,8k in 4h48
- 7,5k - 81,8k in 4h56
- 15k - 62k in 4h24
As you can see in this case best is 2-3k, not sure how to interpret this, maybe best to start 3-4% unclaimed as % of total claimed? sweet spot around 4%?
Another test after the previous run, 1,5e5 AL2 claimed:
- speed run got me to 421 al3 in 5h56
- start at 4,5k al2 unclaimed (3%) got me to 434 al3 in 4h36
- start at 6k(4%) - 437 al3 in 4h44
- start at 9k(6%) - 441 al3 in 4h57
Another test after that run to test 1.2x vs n+1, suprisngly with a lot of stats (0.0.21.1) n+1 comes only very slightly ahead (like 4%)
- 4h16 into run, 1,2x gave 7,4k and n+1 gave 7,7k - 4% ahead
- 5h10 1,2x gave 11k vs. 11,5k - 4% ahead
- 6h15 1,2x gave 17k vs. 17,7k - 4% ahead
I am wondering if the 4% ahead is just from the head start in 1-3-7, maybe u can do 1-3-7 and the 1,2x
- Another run in 18,5k claimed in AL2 long run lost, and speed run is still better that point
Al4 trials:
- odd/even is better for buildup
- speed is better for long runs
When to buy unlocks starting AL3 (not talking about order):
- when i did testing on AL3, it seems like the best moment to buy unlocks is when they leave you with around 30% unpsent of your current run AP. Example: you buy the 10 AP unlock when your run will give you 14 AP. You gain 4 AP, which is 4/14 = ~30%.
- so based on that, it could be best to buy IFS (3) with a 4 AP run, buy RPPR (4) with a 6 AP run, ISP (5) with a 7 AP run, RPDR (10) with a 14 AP run, IFSs (25) with a 36 AP run, and IAPG (50) with a 71 AP run.
- i basically base this extropolation on testing RPDR timing in AL3, so be careful its just a guide. when i did the 14 AP run in AL3 and bought RPDR, so had some points remaining, seemed like this was the optimal time to buy

Just curious whether improved floor skipper offers much benefit compared to RPPR. Since IFS will only benefit the recovery for the first couple runs in a new layer and then becomes redundant - whereas RPPR benefits the recovery similarly and also benefits speedruns due to making higher layers more accessible to the speedrun.
Based off this I tend to ignore IFS until it's an insignificant cost but rush RPPR either just before or after the third stat boost.

I understand your talking about AL3 then yes, but in Al4 isnt IFS really good considering ur back into long runs?
I edited my post so that it says when to buy unlocks starting AL3 but not necessarily order.

In AL4, IFS is absolutely one of the best unlocks, especially early on. RPPR is nice for the buildup part, but the long run part is where you'll get much better ap/h.
