(Windows and Firefox)
I'm experience ridiculous amounts of lag when playing.
Before, I had no lag but it would get slightly more and more laggy as time went by and a refresh after about 40 minutes would reset it. After my last reincarnation, the game suddenly became extremely laggy at all times. The webpage shows to be using about 35% of my CPU. When I click something, it can take 3-4 seconds to react.
This makes the game unplayable. What can I do?

I'm having the same issue with MacOS and Firefox.

The game has some memory leaks, so I make sure to refresh the page from time to time if I leave the game running. I think it is impossible to avoid lag entirely if the game runs long enough without a page refresh, but certain things make the lag occur more quickly. Having a lot of bulbs is one thing, and having lots of cities and activites going on on the map also seems to affect the lag issue (I turn off terrain and trade routes on the map in my game, which seems to help the lag stay away a bit longer. Turning off troops would probably also help, but I think that info is a bit too useful to remove). Pretty sure the time shift spell (Shiva) is a known offender, although I think the issue where it actually kills the game has been mostly solved.
So I don't really have any solutions besides frequent page refreshes, and don't have hundreds of millions of bulbs :P (that last thing might be hard to fix if you already have them)

Thanks for the info, sciurusaurus.
I've played many games on Kong and there was one that had the same issue for everyone but it was somehow fixed in an update. My PC's memory usage goes very high when I try to play Civ.
The problem is the game is extremely laggy soon after I start playing it, even if there's nothing occuring on the map. Refreshing doesn't help. I also have trade routes, troops and terrain turned off anyway. I don't have Shiva or any bulbs either.
It's frustrating that I can't play anymore and don't know what's causing the issue, or know if it can be fixed on the dev's end.

Don't you all have the impression that this game is some kind of HTML game, being all text and small icons, with the sole exeption of the world screen? I'm convinced the lag is more than just a lot of things happening on the world, with the other civilization's AI running and stuff. I believe all the navigation we do between the sections we have to run our empire get stored in our browser history, just like when we navigate a webpage by clicking links. And by doing so on this game, and we certainly do it a lot 'cause it's a very absorbing game that needs your attention to multiple details, we end up using a lot of memory for that "history".
My guess is that ALL THAT is what makes the game impossibly laggy, and more and more as you get further, conquest more cities and explore the whole map, going more and more between screens and cities pages on each session.
It's too much lag for a game so graphically frugal, that should run OK even on a 15 years old PC.

Nah, pretty sure it's just memory leak. I've noticed that when i do a toad to command, it gets laggier with every road added. However, refreshing hte page fixes the issue. This usually happens in game in which the path that the ai takes, isn't destroyed after they reach their goal. So, if you do something like 10 attacks, that's 10 paths that just got added without being deleted. From personall experience of working with pathfinding ai, pathfinding uses a lot of memory, to the point where I've worked on less graphic games then this, that lag just as bad, if not worse, due to the paths not being deleted. There are probably other memory leaks in the game as well.
