When I export it says "Savefile copied to file"
My question is this: what file? Where is this being stored and how can I find it later if importing is needed?

I gets dropped in your browser's default download location. If you're on a Windows system, and havn't made custom changes, it should be your "Download" folder.
If you're on Chrome, you can press ctrl+j to get the list of recent downloads. From there you have the option to "Show in Folder". That will show you where the file is stored.

Wa-hey, can actually help on this one. Had the same issue, but updating firefox to the newest version worked.

When I try to export the save, the screen just turns black. I do get the quarks for it though, so it registers that I did something.
Is it super important to export the save constantly for this game? Each of the updates seems to mention it, so I'm concerned if it ends up being needed for each update.
(I'm on Microsoft Edge browser wise, maybe that's the issue?)

I've been playing on Waterfox. As far as I can tell, it doesn't drop a save file in my Downloads folder, or anywhere at all. And if I switch to a different browser, my progress doesn't carry over.
I'm at almost e4000 particles.

@anon9mous
This is true for many games, not just Synergism, but updates can cause inconsistencies with the progress of older versions, and when such issues are reported the developers can fix them and fix older versions. Will try to make sure that the player can make the right transition.
However, if the player has no backed up saves and the only save in one particular location (the automatic saves read by the browser in this game) is corrupted by the update, the developer can't help it.
Generally, it is important to make frequent backups in games that are expected to be updated frequently.
@ChaoticBrain
If you haven't seen the dialog box for saving the file and you don't have the opportunity to rename it, the save data should be somewhere on your computer with the filename "SynergismSave.txt".
We recommend that you search all locations in your PC once and search for "SynergismSave.txt".
If you still can't find the file, you can do a web search for your browser's download settings and check, and if you still can't find a clear problem then create a topic to report to the developer in more detail or ask on Discord.

I'm also on Microsoft Edge. My screen turns black too, but there are selectable invisible (black, the same color as background) text in the black screen which I assume to be my savefile. I copied them to my backup file. However I can't return to the game after exporting, and I have to refresh the page.
Edit: I tested the backup file by loading it on the github version and it worked.

I cannot for the life of me, find where exports are saved to. My browser is not using a default download location, and is not recognizing any recent downloads anyways. Would it be possible to push the save file to my clipboard, or maybe have a prompt for a manual save location?
