I've encountered the same thing since the newest update. The bug is kinda game-breaking for those of us not constantly playing. It is mentioned occasionally on the discord, but it doesn't seem like anyone is very concerned about it.
I think a lot of people on discord just leave their computers up and are never offline for the game, thus don't know about the problem.

It's not a bug, the offline system was just reworked by Platonic. If you want to keep getting obtainium offline, turn on auto-Reincarnate and set it to your optimal time for obtainium.

Researches 2-6 and 2-7 are still in game as giving offline obtanium, do they just not do anything?

Yeah, people always respond talking about optimal timer and completely miss researches that allowed for steady offline progress. Considering how this update was supposed to fix "always online" requirement it's actually worse for me than before in that matter. And setting timer will kill ant speed bonus from achievement so I'm not sure if it will really give me what I want.

Thanks for the"turn on auto-Reincarnate and set it to your optimal time for obtainium" tip ElsieShy(really made a difference in offline Obtainium). The reicarnation gain is better. The new boosts(around SI rune patch) to Obtainum still don't seem to affected auto obtainium. note this post has been editied to note be so upset.

Even if it works, auto-obtainium is garbage though, the main source is from reincarnations. If you are turning off auto-reincarnate or doing it at a non-optimal time, you are needlessly shooting yourself in the foot. You may gain more as an absolute number going past 4440 sec (or w/e you're at) but your ob/sec goes down, and you will almost always gain more from 2x 4440 sec than running it out to 1x 8880+ sec. Plus you get particles in between, which can cause your subsequent runs to be better.
If you aren't close to some sort of milestone, there's little reason to have your runs go longer than the optimal timers.
-----
Also just noticed, the research does specifically say "When offline for greater than 1 hour you gain +5% of **best obtainium per second** per level." It doesn't say that you gain that per sec/hr/time you're offline, just that you gain it. The way it reads to me, if your best ob/sec is say 500,000, then going offline will only gain you 500,000 ob if you're offline for 1hr or 10hrs. I never paid attention to if that's how it actually works, but if so then its hilariously far behind auto-reincarnating.

Plat forgot to change the text of the offline upgrades, the new smart system just simulates your time off in 800 ticks

You have to turn on auto-reincarnation, I just set it to 4080 which is most optimal for obtainium and get decent rewards

This is really unfair and unintuitive because there is no way for a player to know that auto-reincarnation works when offline.

I know, take it up with the dev, I only found out about it because somebody brought it up on Discord.
