What is the need for the new dungeon coins currency that they introduced with the endless dungeons? Players already have thousands of rubies and hundreds if not thousands of catalysts. Why not let us use this currency as part of the endless dungeon instead of us stockpiling it for some "future" update?
This was the perfect time to introduce a function for these currencies but instead they go for the cash grab. The endless dungeon is for players that have been around for a long time and not for newer players so it cant be said to help balance new players. I fully expect the dungeon coins to be useless before long and then Codename will move on to the next way to monetize the game without giving players a way to use these items they have collected over time.

Well, I don't see how u monetize a currency that is free to get...
For the second part, most of end game players have hundreds or thousands of the rest of currencies as u already said. If they have use the same currency would be easier to do an abuse due to that.
In general the dungeons are well planned, letting u get 4-5 times the idols of a FP, and that being more and more as the time passes (more total idols = more drop).
The only problem is the balancing of the points in the season, cause is nearly imposible to get the last reward with the total number of points needed.

Personally, I feel that there comes a point at which there are too many types of currency in any one game, and it just becomes clutter to the brain and to my enjoyment of it.
Catalysts
Materials
Rubies
Event currency (going by many different names, none of which roles over to the next event)
Challenge tokens
And I am positive I am leaving some out.
I haven't played the game in months, and I'm not encouraging anyone else to keep or to quit playing.
I will say that the "overengineering" of the game that made it far more complicated and far less entertaining to me were part of the reason I chose to move to new territory. The seemingly compulsive draw toward "too much of everything we already have" and not enough of the the basics (quality of life and smoothness of function) is part (but not all) of what eventually left me wanting. The currency is one good example of that.
I absolutely think the game is a good game, that's why I played it for three years.
Seriously, though, that's a lot of different currencies. I can think of no other game that has that many different currency types to keep track of or think about.
KISS.

@Alagamer Clearly you haven't played Bit Heroes. Talk about the clutter of currency and materails. Wow you haven't seen clutter.
I played a bit of the dungeons. I don't get much further there than I do in the free plays and I am not getting more idols due to no bonus idols like I get on free plays. I am going back to finishing the tier 3 objectives and more free play runs when the slow pace of the other objectives annoys me. I don't have stockpiles of currencies yet so I shall trudge on until I get there.
I do feel the Devs have done their best to come up with new ways to keep old players busy and frankly without the monetization the Devs can't buy coffee, hot pockets and toilet paper.

lets get rid of gold missions and instead have mission token missions!
so all missions that were gold missions would instead reward you with a few mission tokens that you would have to save up over time, for, guess what?
the new mission token shop!
then you could buy mission token stuff!
wouldn't that be neat?

It would for the new players. I started one of the new dungeons and capped all my crusaders at 5475. I doubt I'll even make level 900 which makes the run nothing more than an extra free play.

All in all it seems kind of pointless right now, as there is virtually nothing of value in the dungeon store.
The token for an extra dungeon run is purely a progress gating mechanic. I might not be playing enough to get through the base 15 you can run as it is, so its totally worthless to me.
If it starts getting more things to buy (like the exclusive TM) its got potential to be better I guess.
