This thread is related to a sequel of Book of Mages 2: The Dark Times by nobstudio. I am well aware of the [Book of Mages 3 suggestions thread](https://www.kongregate.com/forums/3-general-gaming/topics/117092-book-of-mages-3-suggestions?page=1) that has gathered many posts throughout the years, but I wanted to make a new thread to show a waiting fanbase that I have come not with something to ask for, but for something to offer.
Shuwan, the solo developer on Nobstudio (who is alive and well, working in mobile games) has postponed the possible creation of a third installment to the well-received Book of Mages "series" for over six years now, and being a loyal fan waiting for this game to come, it's a bit sad to see what has come to be. For the most part he has avoided the question. Nobstudio's communications have fallen quite short, as its own forum has been taken down "for an upgrade", and with other social medias not particularly being of much help either. I've decided to resort to Kongregate, to see if Nobstudio's small fanbase isn't dead, and if they're interested to see or even help in the creation of a fan-made Book of Mages 3.
Before I say anything further, I am not looking for people who have skills and will do all the work for me. In fact, I believe I have the necessary skills with our small 2-person team to push this project to completion. **I am also contacting Nobstudio for permissions and legal concerns.** I'm a designer, programmer, and writer, who also has contact with an artist. We have all the necessary talents for production, but we need the community's voice to speak! Nobstudio has been awfully elusive of contact these recent weeks, and I'm hoping that if an interested fanbase makes more noise about this prospective opportunity for the studio, we'll see something happen.
Design phase is still very early, but we've got some general concepts that we'd like to share with you!
**Revamped Combat**
- A rehauled set of spells for mages, strategizing AI, and a new no-RNG-based dodge/resource system that adds a lot more strategy and fun to the combat sytsem.
**Expansive Travel**
- A world map with unique towns and locations now lets you travel to different places, with variable services, people, and events. Go to capital cities to find the best of services, or explore to find unique happenings and subplots!
**The Writer's First Language is English**
- Uh, what I mean to say is, don't expect huge English issues. The new main conflict of the story involves a multi-perspective heated struggle that isn't as black and white as... well you know that. Plot connection and worldbuilding are top priorities for the narrative development of this installment.
If you have any comments, concerns, or just want to show your support for this possible game, leave a message on this thread or contact me in private messaging! Thanks for reading!

Egh. Here's a bump, and some words to show that I have a little more thoughtwork than just some bored hours working on "some good idea".
Some thoughts may require a little reading.
**A few thoughts on game ideas and concepts:** https://docs.google.com/document/d/1RdlBeyuZSyG7rVOuKz_Elf6_04P_rqCokJplZF4SPYk/edit?usp=sharing
**A short summary of the backstory:** https://docs.google.com/document/d/144-8kbCVh1ZX5uy4UGKTj7psk0vUD2V-h49xtlli0N4/edit?usp=sharing

I don't have any graphics up for preview, so just dine on that until we're a little further in. I'm not planning on cross-posting in the Collaborations forum because I will not be making any work/payment discussion until in the near future when I know my permissions in starting actual production of the game.

I really want to bump this as this game was a rather large part in my upbringing and simply proves graphics don't make a good game. I'll be more than happy to support a trilogy sequel of this game, In-fact I'll do what I can also to make sure I get the word out on this thread and do my best to contact Nobstudio. Please, keep me updated!

Thanks for the support! Our attempts at contacting Nobstudio have been pretty faulty as of yet, but we're working on more concepts while we wait for responses. We could use all the help we can to contact this beloved indie dev.
While we wait for Nobstudio's response, feel free to discuss anything you want to say about a possible BoM3. We are coming out of a background of long planning and revision, but we're open to new insights.

Have you received any information from them yet? Is there any way to get around legal rights if they don't reply?
But anyways, I would love to see a third one too. You can send me a private message if you need any help in proofing/editing or help with ideas.
Sounds awesome so far though.

I would love to invest my time to assist in such a project if I could. Book of Mages was a game I saw could be a major hit if it were in some way a Mobile App Multiplayer game.
A question I'd like to ask @ploopy9871 : **What is the concept so far for the battle system of the game?**
If the direction is to make a non-RNG based combat system, I would like to think up a concept on such a system.

Sadly, no. There would have to be some rebranding and some switches to be done if we were to sell the game as "a spiritual successor to the Book of Mages series". I just want to wait more for Nobstudio since I respect their work and since we're still not ready for production phase.

1.) Thanks for your support!
2.) Something we decided early in the development was that we were releasing towards open desktop. We're aiming for quality and accuracy to some key elements in the older Book of Mages games, so multiplayer wasn't on the list of things to do. Also, the mobile app market is too much of a hit-miss situation- we want to spend our time on this project and really push through the type of interactive narrative the genre deserves.
3.) We're still aiming for a turn-based combat system where two parties face off trading blows and spells until one side emerges a victor. There's a document at the OP that explains some of our technical changes to combat, so that might help you.

It seems the direction you are going for is something similar to how past turn-based RPGs were and the addition to the Agility stat to determine each Mage's turn. This feels like a major twist to the current two Book of Mages, but I am interested to see how well that will work out.
I read up on the Book of Mages 3 suggestions how players wanted the ability to have their Mages use melee attacks as well. I have been thinking of a way for Mages to use "Magical Melee" attacks as a unique perspective to that. While I am currently going non-profit work for game design as an intern, I've been doing studies on the whole "Rock-Paper-Scissor Concept in Game Design" and have been trying to think up other unique combat approaches.
A bit down to hear there has been no word from Nobstudio about the whole legal rights problem. I hope things will get patched up or maybe you can make an entire new series as an inspiration to the Book of Mages.
I will get back later on some ideas for combat.

I am very excited for a sequel to this series. The wait has been excruciating and I would be happy to help in any way I can (including legal wrap arounds if the creator is not contacting you back).

Hey there, just wanted to give a little update. It's been a few years but the original maintainer of the project stopped working on it and I've taken over as the new maintainer. Nobstudio hasn't given us any word yet, so for the time being we are going to proceed with the project under some new direction. We're thinking of rebranding the project and making it open source, as opposed to raising money for a paid desktop release. During the change in management, some of the permissions to the Google Docs were changed and a few people have contacted me about permissions. The docs are publicly viewable again, sorry about that.
We don't have anything (finished) to show yet as we're still in the process of making large changes to design. I'm also thinking about starting a community on Discord or some other platform to help gather ideas and test out our combat engine in the works. If you're interested in pitching in ideas for story, gameplay, or just wanna say hi, lemme know in a private message or in this thread. If there's enough interest, I'll try to push things more quickly so we can have you chew on the combat engine.
