Dear all,
We want to add some new and fun tourney formats, and thought it could be cool to open up the design to the community! Please see the rubric below and feel free to respond to this thread with any suggestions. We'll pick some of the best ones and add them in our next major patch!
Note: We are also thinking about some new entry fee / prize combinations, but I am not opening that up for community suggestions just yet, because they will be determined independently from actual tourney format, and also because they are complicated and we want to figure out what we can implement first.

**Tourney Design Guidelines**
Please try to follow these guidelines exactly so that it will be easier for me to collect suggestions and easier for us to implement the good ones. :)
1. **Title**
Give your tourney a cool name! For example "In the Shadows" or "Anything Goes!"
2. **Heroes List**
You can choose any list of heroes, by name, for the tourney. Currently our tourneys are all mono-faction, dual-faction or all-faction. This is a new feature though -- you can choose Laertes, Kiri, Pavuk and Zuu as the only four selectable heroes for example. Choose wisely as this will largely affect the way the tourney is played!
3. **Card Set**
This can be Core, Dragons, Frontiers, or All.
4. **Card Faction Type**
This can either be two factions you want to have cards from, or "All" factions. Note that "Spell" is not a valid faction; spells will either be available or not available according to #5 below.
5. **Allow Spells?**
Either Yes or No determines whether spell cards are available in the tourney.
6. **Card Rarity**
This is either a range or a single rarity. For example you can say "Common-Rare," "Uncommon-Legendary," or "only Epic" if you want.
7. **Equip Rarity**
If equipment is not allowed, then just say "no equipment" but otherwise indicate the rarity. Equipment is always a single rarity category instead of a range.

7. Uncommon equipment

Questions: Can we choose all legendaries, or legendary equip? Can we use heroes from the Endless Dungeon? Can you bring back constructed tourneys at a very low percentage?
And finally: Who is going to play all the crap that people suggest? A Kiri-only tourney sounds fun to a troll but it's not fun or winnable for everyone to choose the same deck.

|
|
metadata
1. Magic Madness
2. Any Hero
3. Spells only
4. All factions
5. yes, spells obviously
6. All rarities
7. no equipment

Yes, you can choose all legendaries for cards or equips. Endless dungeon NPCs could be interesting but idk that we can do that ... let me chat with Storm and get back to you. We can also add back constructed tourneys but I'm a little worried they will not be popular again ... maybe if we limit it or fix the times ...
We clearly won't be adding any bad suggestions, to answer your last point.

I know it's not following the guideline, so I'm not even trying with the heros:
'1. No Magic
'2. All without any magic attack
'3.+4. All cards without any magic attack
'5. No
'6. All
'7. All Equip without magic attack
Ps.: Autoformating on kong sucks.

Interesting suggestions so far! Thank you guys for contributing.

I like the idea of simply having different heroes play with different card sets. So any type of 2-faction tourney, but with heroes from 2 other factions.

suggestion from the discord server initially posted as a response to other players' comments regarding a lack of fairness (veteran advantages) compounded by a lack of variety in formats
create a tourney engine that chooses variables (available heroes, card set or all sets, card factions, spells vs not, card rarities and equip rarities independently) to generate formats randomly
some formats would remain pretty much the way they are set up now (dragon island, frontiers and core set formats for example though equip rarity could be randomly selected and/or hero selection could be limited) but many would have variables selected randomly meaning a virtually unlimited number of possible combinations instead of the 20-someodd we have now
instead of atlanteans and orcs (border patrol) being rares and under (cards) there would also be times when it would be epics and under and times when all rarities would be available and rather than uncommon equips being the only ones that format uses you could add uncommons and epics as options (chosen randomly, not tied to card rarity) - that's 12 formats right there including no-equip options - add an option for all heroes to be available instead of only those from the factions represented by cards and you've got 24 possibilities - adding L equips as an option brings it up to 30 JUST WITH ATLANTEANS AND ORCS!
with 15 2-faction combinations that's 450 different formats plus those possible with all factions present (which could also use uncommon-only, rare-only and epic-only for card rarity options) and new categories of 3- and/or 4-faction formats could be added as well resulting in thousands of possible formats - far more than anyone could possibly keep track of optimal builds for
format names are purely aesthetic and could be eliminated without consequence
some combinations would likely suck ass but there could always be something added to eliminate specific combinations of heroes/card rarities/factions/sets/equip rarities as possibilities - if players notice a combination of things they don't like for whatever reason they'd simply mention it and/or on the discord server (a channel could easily be added for that specific purpose - perhaps temporarily as there would no doubt be a surge of suggestions initially and a reduction over time as bad combinations were eliminated) and if others agreed it could be added to a list of undesireable combinations and the generator (if it happened to randomly combine all those factors again) would simply ignore it and choose something different
