Is it intentional that elder dragons attack the hero as long as there is even a single spot open in the line?

It was a buff made across the board at one time when Elder Dragons were considered underpowered. I think they've risen a bit in the metagame and could probably live without this mechanic, but I prefer not to change things unless necessary, whether buff or nerf. Do you find Elder Dragons are overpowered as a result of this feature? (To answer the actual question, yes the mechanic is working as intended).

not sure its op, its certainly very annoying when you end up facing multiple elder dragons and cant do much to shield the hero

If you change it, it'd be fine for Malik probably. For every other hero? Not so much.
That shows more how Malik is a bit unbalanced than anything else, though.
