today i was witness of a very emotinal chat about the crew battles, and (like everybody else) i think i know it better ;-P
So here some Feedback u asked for.
Your intention in changing the crew battles are to reduce the wars against very low factions compared to the attacking faction. This makes most of the crew battles and ladder movment kind of boring. At least not attacking the crew that is completely helpless against the attacker should happen more frequently.
Glowstones are bad
I realy think that Glowstones are a major reason for the passivity in the crew battles.To explain it i would like to try to answer more in general.
In every game which has a limited resource that has to be spent it always reduces aggression unless its a 2 party game. The reason is simple. If u fight one opponent and spend ur resource u are prone to an attack from a third party.
Therefore u can see crazy gambits in chess or rushs in starcraft but mostly passivity all these o-game like build up and raid games where they had to implement newb protection and u always "save" everything because u only get attacked by people much stronger than u.
In StormWars this resource are the Glowstones atm. Every Crew can suprisingly loose or win a battle just by the use of it. Its a bit more hidden because the glowstone count of a crew is not publicly visable. Still crews have to farm them to prepare any move on the ladder and therefore only attack enemys much lower then they are so there is realy realy realy no way this could end in an unexpected glowbattle.
There were a lot of other options to encourage agression even more mentioned in the chat today, im sure u have a list already. I liked rewards based on the rating difference idea very much. But u should realy loosen the break before u start to step on the gas.
We all understand that there has to be a way in the game to earn money for u guys. And i think thats the main reason y people dont want to adress this topic so directly. Its like interfering in ur very own business.
Still i think u mentioned that almost nobody is buying glow stones anyways. So it shouldnt be too much of a deal to get rid of those.
For me this is connected to a different question. How do u actually make money out of the game, hopefully enough so u can live from game developing. Right now i would bet that this is more a hobby for u than a business. I can not imagine that a lot of people are spending money regularly on this game so u get a reasonable reward for the time u spend. The return for investment for for a player just doesnt seem to be there. But this is only guess.
Still i cant ask u to remove ways to get money without adressing this.
Give us a way to spend like 1 to 5$ a month on something that is realy helpfull and permanent and im sure u will get some people to spend these some frequently.
Obviously i, as every smartass, have ideas for this too. But thats not the post for it ;-P

I feel like i've wrote most things i wanted to say about this on the other forum page but figured i'd give my opinion here as well as i was on for the chat about crew fights yesterday and seems like the dev could use some help.
First apart from the element of surprise (kinda) attacking and defending a crew should be the exact same! not 480vs 400 fights like it is now fights should be the same amount.
Second glowstones are terrible basicly you sacrefice 20 gems to make a push or defend vs another guild and hope that your entire guild glows as well and/or that the enemy crew doesn't glow to much... and for what the 50 or so gems we get every week for our efforts? xD it's simply not worth it hell it's wasn't even worth it back when attacking and defending was equal let alone the way the battle system is now.
Third I'm not sure how you can make crewfights more interesting but here are a few examples to encourage people.
1) the chest you get for winning a crewfight has the same rarity as a gold chest making this better (like making it equal to an epic chest or something in between the 2) would encourage people to fight a bit harder.
2) very important this one but right now all players get directly from participating in a crewfight (doing the 6 available fights) is 600 gold and a token to spend on crew rewards which most of us are basicly swimming in. If glows are removed give players let's say 500 gold per fight and if they complete all 6 they get 2 gems?
These are just some basic ideas without overhauling the whole crewfight system (you know without making storm pull out his hair trying to program a solution :P)

i just wanted to post the result of a recent discussion we had in our crew.
we discussed to be more agressive in our offence battels for a while already.
then we got attacked by a crew below us and we had to burn a lot of glows to win this def battle.
now we decided to be ultra carefull in our off battles and only attack very weak crews so we are sure we dont have to burn glows there, since we need them even more for our def battles.
so far to the aggression in games with more than 2 parties and recource managment.
now that its harder to defend we turtel even more.
and i think the tendency is clear.
u can make ur mind urself of how much defence has to be "nerved" until people play offensive and which side effects will occure on this road.
turning crew battle into a gamble house even more will make a lot of the "good" players angry.
they will not know why they farmed all these good cards when less active players can beat them anyways (or those who didnt buy gem extractors ;-P).
regarding the desired outcome (more movment in the crew rankings) i want to finishing with an provoking statment:
there is already a lot movment in the crew ranking.
u just cant see it because its not crews changing their ranking.
its players moving form lower crews to higher crews.
just becasue this is the best to rise in a stalled environment.
therefore the flow/exchange of potentlial palyers is already there all the time.
it just bypasses the positionings of whole crews which are blocked by the resource problem described.
