I realize a lot of these beginner guides dont focus on super early game and just tell you whats good to build and whats not. No actual specifics. If you are a super noob to bloons monkey city i am making a su per beginners guide at https://bloonsmonkeycitysuperbeginnerguide.wordpress.com
just to say this is NOT the only strategy. This is what i find most effective.

Only early game guide you need:
Build dart monkeys. Save up for dartling monkeys. Get and upgrade dartling guns.
That should easily carry you until MOABs start showing up without ever going past 2/2 on the dartlings. Dartlings can basically deal with every single threat the game has to offer, and they can be damge-on-target from the moment it enters the map until the moment it leaves.

I'm a "to die for" fan of anything that gets me through the level :p So to say, im not a faithful follower of any. I have 2 cents on the topic and i wanna give them all to charity lol
I do not believe that a single type of tower is good or "omnipopping" for every map and level. For starters, all discussions are focused on the popping power of a tower with or without some upgrades. Viability is also a problem. Yes an apprentice seems powerful at 2/2 with all pierce and camo popping ability but getting it to there is also a pain. Actually, its nearly the same pain with getting a ninja to third tier. Before having the lightning upgrade, apprentice is so weak and not even a match for ninja. Ninja x/1 ability is awesome in lower level as the apprentice will only hit the targets on its way he is facing while ninja will bounce its shuriken for a cheap price. When both at 2/2 apprentice beats the hell out of the ninja like a seal tho. But even then, it is a lightning every 2 seconds versus 2 shurikens "i dont know how fast you can throw them" per second. Problem is, in many levels you may get a nasty surprise before having that 1k+ extra money to get the world changing upgrade too. So yes apprentice is powerful but its not as reliable as a ninja. In many levels, i lost lives with an apprentice start while i perfected with ninja start. Or lost the level with 2 apprentice starts but had no problems with 1 ninja and 1 apprentice start. Which brings us to attack rate, which is discussed below, while eating popcorn. Hold on, making pop corns.
*Half an hour later
Oh, you guys are still here... Alright. When comparing the ninja with boomer, i feel that people are focusing on pure popping power of a single attack and forgetting the attack rate and speed. Ninja is a way freaking speedy gonzales, while boomer is just a gonzales in siesta. Cant even see his face under that giant hat! -.-
That being said, in a combo, ninja + ice is a disaster that can fail you the levels which you could pass even without the ice while apprentice + ice looks awesome, mostly. In lower levels, ninja's inability to pop frozen corns, erm, bloons (who on earth pops frozen corns, its just not raven) can be annoying.
In any given map with a long corridor (preferably half the way the map goes) dartling is by far superior than anything possible. However, micromanaging will be a bitch when you focus on dartlings and sometimes it will get you in trouble just because you cant resist moving your mouse. Plus, it's upgrades are way beeping expensive. Also, in a lag situation, dartlings will be more effective in slower speed, which is way too boring that you would study maths instead of playing BMC. Another down side, you may need to test and restart the level when playing with dartlings, to decide if 2/x or x/2 upgrade to go first. But the ability to control what is going on in the map also gives you to risk starting with banana farms early on, provided that you place them somewhere you can lock your mouse pointer lol. Worst downside, because you need to aim with mouse and upgrade with other hand on keyboard, you cant eat the damn pop corn while playing! -.-
For fans of boomers, i agree they are a viable option at 3/x but they are also quite a trash before 3/x. So when thinking about investing on a tower type, i wouldnt start with boomer early on. So boomer has its time of glory while it glows and blasts at third tier, not before, not after.
I am also surprised that no one cares to talk about cannons, which do some hardworking all around. It is good for anything other than the black baloons. Alright, they are upgrade hungry and mediumly expensive to get to where you want them but, 2/3 will save you out of MOAB trouble and leads easier than anything else which is affordable in early game (after level 12). And for god's sake, 2/x upgrade has the pop corn sound! What else are you expecting from a tower ?
My conclusion is that, the curves of the path (same goes for the girls), the distance of the corridor and the length of the path the tower covers as well as the empty build space available in the map, differs the viability and effectiveness of the towers. Hence there is no such single strategy for a viable omnipopping/overpowered/allmighty/allseeing/awesome/girlpicker/smooth operator tower. What gets me to round 36 in CT, didnt get me to %75 boss life or couldnt help me in 22 round special mission at level 16. I rocked CT with dartlings and cannons/super monkeys/apprentices but i didnt have 3/x upgrade for boomer so i failed in special mission and i didnt have buccaneer upgrades so bloonarius was a pain in the pop corn for me. I popped his bloons, he popped my corn! IT WAS MY CORN DAMNIT!

I would suggest buying ninjas and apprentices too in real early game. Why? there cheap (300 in city and around 500 in cash), deadly, and rather efficent when you just start. they also pop all the boon catagories (lead, camo, regrow), but can struggle with moabs. but your in early game so who cares about moabs rn T_T
Another thing I could consider are boomers and dartlings. Boomers can attack leads with x/2, and they are cheap, efficent at rushes, but not the best to rely on for camo ..
Dartlings however, are controlled by the players cursor. you can use dartlings if you don't trust your towers with bloons. they can pop all bloon catagories too.
Later on when you unlock more land you have to deal with pesky MOABS, and at that point you should have some tier 3s and maybe one or two tier 4s. Some ways you can deal with MOABS are maulers (bomb tower, x/3) for a basic MOAB popper. after popping a MOAB ceramics will come out. you can eaither use ninjas x/2 distraction or 3/x spacs.
After moving on, you will have to deal with very abusive DTT's. These DTT''s (Dark Dirigible Titan's) are calssified in lead, camo, and MOAB. since a few towers can pop that (buc, ninja, apprentice, etc.), it will be a struggle to pop them. a somewhat effective way to deal with these meanies are decent lead PP's (Popping Power) like super monkey or tack shooters under a x/2 village.if you don't have lead poppers, you can buy a x/3 village, which pops ANY sort of bloon. (except moabs xd) with some towers. or you can be a lazy man and put 3/2 spacs near the end of the lane ._. (but not directly at the end. have the spacs, then cleanups)
# **This is kinda all I have on my mind for begineers. Good luck!**

Hi, heres my useless opinion:
On every map, I place down 3 3/2 engineers and one 2/2 spactory. Done, this setup is incredibly OP and I've managed to take down impoppables on certain maps adding 2/2 monkey ace and 2/2 dartling

To the one who talked about contested territories... got to lv 28 with 6 1/1 dart monkeys, 2 0/1 spike factories, 4 1/1 snipers, 2 0/0 aces and a 1/1 gatling XD (just started this like 3 hrs ago.)
Play Bloons TD5 for a while, learn the towers. That's my nub suggestion =o
