Hey all,
I have noticed people complain about Death Match and that there is no real guide or tips: so here goes! As of this writing I have won death match 63 times (I win about 90% of the time) and currently hold the top score of 1266 pwnts. Here are my general tips:
**Incorrect Death Match Philosophy:** Death Match is like Super Smash Bros. and I should just go around attacking people and try to shoot people when they are in groups.
**Correct Death Match Philosophy:** I have a limited number of shots in Death Match, and so I should try to economize those shots to get the most pwnts per shot. Kills give the most pwnts. This means I will spend a lot of time hiding and letting my energy recharge.
**Tip One: Hide in the beginning.** At the start, everyone has a full charge. You should spend this time hiding in the corner or else the computer will just auto-blast you much faster than you can earn points. Wait until the computer players have about 20-30 pwnts before you go in and then earn a few points to use up some energy. I have won death matches before when I was in last place after 90 seconds of play.
**Tip two: Always keep your energy bar about half full (or more) for kills.** If you followed tip one, you now have more health than everyone. Now that your health is staggered, you will get 2-4 kills for every one death. Get some pwnts but always leave your energy bar half full or more. Wait until a player gets pretty low, and then go in and just hammer the key to kill them. Then, charge back up to about half way or more.
**Tip three: Charge at low health.** When you are about to die, go ahead and let your energy bar charge. After you die, the opponents damage each other while you are in heaven. Often times, one will be near death when you come back. If you have energy reserved, you can go in for the kill because the opponents don’t have much energy to take shots at each other.
**Tip four: Let the person in last place kill you.** Hang out next to the person in last place when you have low health.
**Tip five: Get health and items while hiding.** When you are hiding in the corner to recharge your energy bar or to not be killed near the end, after the last opponent gets close to you, follow them as they leave the corner. Then, as another person approaches, retreat back into the corner. You can get extra health and items that way and can sometimes cover nearly half of the arena.
**Tip six: Wait for people to be in groups** Notice I list this tip near the end. It is more important to get kills but always try to attack a few times when 2+ opponents are in the screen. One way to get groups is to wait in the middle for people to come together, then attack.
**Tip seven: Use items intelligently** Almost all items are worthless except health, stun, drain, and sometimes speed boost. Save stun for a good opportunity either to get multiple people in the screen at once. Even better, use stun if someone is close to death and you can stun them and kill them. Drain gives you more shots. Speed boost is more effective when you go over a yellow boost to get by someone if you have low health. Be aware that if you are saving stun, you could lose it if you get another item.
**Tip eight: Don’t let your energy bar stay fully charged.** The exception to this is the beginning of the match (see tip 1). If your energy bar is charged, then you are “losing” potential shots. Shoot someone a few times to let it continue to charge back up.
**Tip nine: Don’t go for the kill until you are SURE you can get it.** You will be tempted to start attacking too early. Then, not only do you not get the kill, but a target appears on the opponent which attracts everyone else! FFFUUUUUUU… So just wait until you are 1000% sure you have enough energy or that their health is low enough for you to get the kill. (Think Coup de Grace)
**Tip ten: In the end, just go for hits.** By the end, you should either be hiding if you have low health, or you should just go crazy and try to get as many group hits as you can if you’re health doesn’t matter.
**Tip 9001: I’ve never used dash.**
I think that’s it! I hope you find these tips helpful. Best of luck and don’t forget to activate double exp/coin cards because death match gives great rewards.
Sincerely, Chessdude111
**tl;dr**
Hide in the beginning. Try to keep your energy bar half full at all times so that you are more likely to get kills. Make sure you can get the kill before you get the kill. Save energy when you are close to dying. Let the person in last place kill you.

I will reserve this space because I may think of something else and also because I have seen other people do this on their guides. When in Rome…

Not a bad guide. I just prefer to go straight in and spam dash and attack.

These are all pro tips that I have unconsciously used already, however I don’t know if I have ever passed 1000 points like you. Either way there should be no more confusion for people who can’t win death match, because this is perfect.

**tip 9002: Practice makes perfect.** You will develop other skills with time, follow the guidelines and practice and you will get PWNts

Learnt 1 thing.
Tip 9003: If you are doing bad at the start that doesn’t matter but you might come back to win it.
You can win within 2 minutes if you get all the ko’ds.

How tf can one get more than one pwn when you meet an enemy? Everytime I drive by an enemy, he makes 5,6,7 hits on me and I make only one. How am I supposed to get more than 700 pwns which is most likely the score you need to win?
