Has anybody upgraded their standard line infantry to level three? So far I have line infantry rank 2. As well as line of bayonets. Players suggest not to upgrade your line infantry due to AI levels, etc. However, I am thinking of upgrading my infantry. Has anybody upgraded their line infantry to rank three and beyond? What was your experience and was it worth it to upgrade them?

I wouldn't recommend it. I would recommend you to use your national elites and don't upgrade line infantry, light infantry, cavalry, dragoons and mortarmen, so event and siege battles stay cheaper and easier. The more you upgrade them the harder and more expensive battles become since the enemy troops will get stronger

So upgrading cannons is worth it or no ?

Cannons and uhlans are the only regular troops I would upgrade, because they're needed for many hard sieges and can be very useful during events, so in my opinion they're worth upgrading

Extremely, extremely bad idea... unless you would like to increase the diffuclty of the game for yourself. AI gets all the upgrades you research. That means that in the events you don't face line infantry that has 21 soldiers per squad, but 34. Now do a calculation on how many more bullets your troops need to have to kill 4 squads of such an infantry. Also, do you think it's wise to turn squad of 21 soldiers that can't hit anything into a proper premium line infantry?

Wow! Thank you for the suggestions! I will definitely not upgrade my standard line infantry now.

be very very careful when raising the level of technologies. This is valid for all technologies involving troops or buildings. 1) Lets be fair. Regular units, in general, are much more weak than Premium units. So it is better fo focus in National Units + premium than in regular. So even if you have a Regular level 12 still not better than Imperial guards or PreoB or most of the National Line infantry. 2) Play with a Nation that has line infantry as National Units. 3) This game is very stupid in one thing (well.. in many to say the true... but this is the dumbest), When you level up your miltiary tech. EVERY unit of that type that you will fight vs AI will be stronger. At a point of the game isn't playable anymore. Because devs makes events dificulty based in players that have level 1 line ifantry. If you level up your military units, you are only changing the dificult level of the game. Nothing more. The more you level up, the harder it gets (I know.. stupid... but what you want? wasn't me that made this game...) I started as "Portugal" so I had no line infantry or anything that worth. Early to compensate (I didn't know about this rule), I level up some levels of my military units. Somehow, events start to be harder and harder. At a point were late battles in Events became impossible to win. 4) Long time ago, people told me that was ok to level up Uhlans because we never found Uhlans in battle vs AI. The fact is that with the time, many players level up them. And now they are present in most of the battles vs AI.... 5) People say that you should level up your military defensive buildings. Again, I did it because people told me that was OK to do it.... I am not 100% about this, because AI sieges became harder after I did it... The point is that you shouldn't level up ANYTHING, because even if you think that are ok now, in the future they change it without tell anything and the game will be harder again. be smart, don't level up anything. =)

Also, don't level up player level. Events are much more harder for a player level 40 than for a level 30. In this game the smartest move is actually do nothing.... lol

This games so mssed up, you accually get penalized for upgrading troops.I wish I knew that when I first started playing.One might think it's what you should do. Common sence and logic makes it seem like a good idea, but this is warbanner after all.
