A new feature, Combo Mastery, is in the works!
Combo Mastery will allow players to upgrade an entire combo, rather than individual cards. Upgrading a combo will make it stronger for ANY recipe that creates that combo! Mastery Tokens will be available as Special Event Rewards and in the Shop.
Combo Mastery will be available for players Level 12 and up, and we hope to have this new feature go live within the next couple of weeks. This is intended to be end game content and is not for the faint of heart -- mastery will take time and dedication!

UPDATE APRIL 11, 2018
Greetings, Everyone!
Thank you all for sharing your feedback, questions, and concerns. Here are a few replies to top concerns/comments that we hope will better explain the design and benefits of Combo Mastery.
> How will upgrading Combos work, what kind of buffs can I expect?
Combo Mastery tokens are going to be combo-specific. This means that if you would like to upgrade your ‘Solid Gold Tuxedo’ combo, you will need to find ‘Solid Gold Tuxedo Tokens.’ Similar to the way Golden Turds and the Golden Turd Pack works, Combo Mastery Stones is the currency you will collect which allows you to get Combo Mastery Tokens. Combo Mastery Tokens are what you will use to actually perform the upgrade.
There will be several levels of Combo Mastery and each level will mean a percentage buff to the combo. For example, level 1 Mastery of ‘Super Dance Squad’ would equal a 10% increase on the combo’s stats (though not always all of the skills). The 10% buff will apply to all rarities and recipes of the combo.
> Won’t Combo Mastery make it even harder for non-spenders to play against spenders?
Good question. Matchmaking is setup so that players should mostly be matched against players of similar strength, but we plan to watch this concern closely for future modifications. Currently, we intend for non-spenders to be be able to earn Mastery Tokens through events, end-game adventure, and more.
> Some Combos like ‘Fry in Robot Disguise’ or ‘Super Dance Squad’ are going to get too powerful!
Thank you for bringing this up! We will look into fine-tuning this system further and players may see rebalancing to Combo Mastery as a result. We plan to give players an early heads up if that is the case.
> This makes it harder for new players to catch up.
Combo Mastery will not be available until level 12 so it should not impact new player progression. However, we are constantly monitoring early player progression and will consider changes that can help new players catch up a bit faster over time.
> If Combos are going to get super powerful, people will just use the same cards and won’t change decks with BGE.
This is a great point and we understand the concern. Battleground Effects will remain an excellent source of deck strength while Combo Mastery can open up new options and strategy. A non-BGE deck with Combo Mastery should be able to compete with a BGE deck that does not have Combo Mastery.
> Will Power Cards get buffed by Combo Mastery? If not, my Power Cards are going to lose their value.
Currently, Combo Mastery will not improve Power Cards. Power Cards should retain their advantage because you can play the combo without an extra turn to actually make it. We do plan to watch this concern closely, though, and will announce any modification plans ahead of time.
> Please don’t let people max out immediately just by paying!
Combo Mastery is meant to take a good deal of time and/or dedication to complete. Combo Mastery Stones or Tokens will be available in the shop but we plan to make them available through Adventure, Events, and Rewards so that even players who choose not to spend can have access to the feature.
>We should be able to grind for the tokens!
More details are coming soon, but we aim to make Combo Mastery Stones available through Adventure. As mentioned above, Combo Mastery Stones will work similarly to Golden Turds in that you will collect Stones to obtain BGE-relevant Mastery Tokens. Tokens will be used to actually perform Mastery upgrades.

Can you define what you mean by "end game content"?

Not the happiest about this ... something to more distance between spender and f2p but i imagine this will be somethign to do ingame now, wish it was the more you used a combo.. also pre-combos what happen to them?

So PC's will be even worth less? If you are making the Combos Stronger..... Again...
So much for buying our boxes for the 2x PCs...lol

Will the mastery "buff" be applied in siege and rumble?

Will probably be like Bob. First they'll make everybody grind for it, then just drop bundles in the shop.

i guess by "end game" you mean youre killing the game/asking your heaviest spenders to quit.
its laughable you think we are going to spend money to keep our QUAD FUSED combos competitive....

I think your biggest concern needs to be fixing the glitches with the slots and also the game freezing before you start putting in more content or new content!

This term can be used loosely to describe veterans or top players. People under level 12 will be able to see tokens if they are awarded them, but won't be able to use them. After level 12, players can begin to master their combos. While players of every level are important to this game, this is an update for the players who have been in Throwdown for a long time and are looking for even more ways to buff up their decks after they've got a mythic or two under their belt.

I agree that there is a question of balance, spenders vs. non-spenders, and the value of PCs; but Combo mastery will take time to collect tokens & complete. So, we have a good amount of time before that will become an issue. I would consider it along the lines of when Mythics were first announced. Between then and now, they've become increasingly easier to obtain.

PCs will still be very powerful because they don't require the extra turn to actually make the combo. Of course, balance will be taken into consideration as the new feature gains traction, so we can always look forward to updates as the game grows.

Yeah, the buff will apply to any recipe and will be in effect for all player battles unless otherwise specified.

I find this subject interesting and could be cool as long as its a acual grind and not something you just buy to obtain. Add more features but make them F2P AND "take time to obtain" as you say. It makes everyone happier from P2W to F2P.

Kong, please tell us that the only way to get whatever materials you will need for this will ONLY be available through gameplay and not for sale in the cash shop.

Will there be a way of seeing how many mastery levels an opposing player has or will it only be known through looking at their individual combo stats they lay down?
|
|

Will there be any limits on how many combos can be "mastered" or how many levels can be added to a combo?
Or will whales be able to keep buying tokens in the shop and upgrading every combo in their inventory?

More info will be available in a couple of weeks when it goes live. But, I can tell you that there will be a starting limit that, as always, is subject to change as the game continues to grow/change.

I have played this game since the start and spent way more than I am going to admit on here. The way I read this is the cards that I have paid good money obtaining will not be able to compete going forward unless I spend more money on them. I am currently a top 200-300 player with an inventory that can build most bge. I wouldn't advise anyone to spend another dollar on this crap.
I have defended this game from day 1 because it is fun to me. Have tried to stay on top of this game, but this is too much.

From the most invested player to the most jaded, you have honestly killed the prospect of continuing to play this game competitively for every player. I have stood back and been amazed by what can only be described as an experiment in the financial exploitation of a fan base. As a company you have consistently pushed initiatives that undermine both the time and money that all players have put in this game. Anyone that continues to push for box buyouts and mythics shards after this clear demonstration of contempt for any hard earned money and precious time spent on this game is an idiot. I am not saying players should stop all spending but remember announcements like today's and know that your big purchase only emboldens them to come back for more, not by giving you more compelling content and fulfillment, but by undermining you and playing on that age old notion of being in too deep.

Why would you do this? Sounds like a terrible idea, I don't think you guys would be able to implement it in a good way
