Hello Everyone,
We will be performing a mailbox clean-up next week in an effort to improve performance and reduce errors with the mailbox system. During the clean up, **all in-game mailbox messages sent before January 1, 2019 will be deleted** including messages that are read, unread, or still contain items you have not picked up.
If you have any questions or concerns, please let us know here.
Thank you!

Update 06/28/19
As you may have noticed, we have not yet made changes to the in-game mailbox. We are further evaluating player feedback and our back end needs before making changes and will update you all when more information becomes available. Thank you!

Would it be possible to do it in two stages, with one pass cleaning up messages with no items pending and then a second pass cleaning out the rest?
That would make it easier for players to find rewards they may have missed.

I agree that this would be the best way to handle this for the players.

Thanks for the heads up. Had to screenshot that message from the first Siege match for our guild from October 2018...

Can you please not do this, really is ridiculous to fix one small issue, restart the clash, give out compensation, instead your destroying ALL THE HISTORY OF OUR CHALLENGES, EVENTS, and GUILD BATTLES Rumble, sieges. FOR A LOUSY CHALLENGE, im very upset. My inbox goes all the way back to the beginning about, i did delete some in the past, sadly.
If yall decide to do this, which seems you have. I expect EXTREME compensation for this lack of care or concern for all the people who can't get on today, to collect their rewards, really makes me mad how yall continually mess things up give no compensation or something very little for a huge mistake, take it from me you need to test your updates before releasing them, im sick of the crashing that i experienced in swole, and all the other issues its ridiculous considering how much we have given yall over the life of the game.

Hey there!
Thank you all for your concerns. We cannot NOT do this. The mail table is incredibly large and is causing trouble on the back end. I understand that you'd like to keep an archive of your mails, the good news is that we have these saved on our side. If it would be something you were interested in we could update the Help Center with previous mail messages.
As for the two step process - I will relay that to the engineer who is helping with this. I think it does make more sense to delete empty ones first, clearing your inbox and allowing you to see what you have left to claim.
We really appreciate your feedback regarding this, and we want to make this transition as painless as possible.

ok thank you, sorry for gettting upset, i just felt like it was a bit overboard, since yall didn't rollback the coins and other stuff from the last fiasco....

Everything is fine! I wanted to post some clarification that this is only for in-game mail. We loooove sending you all mail, and want to continue to do so!

An alternative:
Split the mail table into active and archive, possibly split further by year. The archive table would only be accessed when a human player wanted to look at old messages. The current table would be small and fast to speed up sending rewards and bonuses.

Great question -- We are only clearing out mail messages that were sent on or before January 1, 2019.
We might do future clean-ups or add an expiration date to messages in the future, but in the meantime all other mail messages will stay in your box until you choose to delete them.

** I agree fully with Brian that is my information that I keep in my mail for my reference I don't wanna lose it! I also agree that it's extremely frustrating to consistently have game glitches especially swole where I have to surrender a winning battle because it will not allow me to resume. I do not think this is entitlement at all when I've paid thousands and thousands and thousands of dollars over the past few years of gameplay I think I should be allowed to keep my own mail.

Hey all, I can understand where you're coming from with wanting your historical information on-hand and apologize to those who feel very affected by this news. We would like to assure you that this particular area of work hasn't taken time away from other tasks-- bug fixes are always and will continue to be a priority.
The unfortunate reality is that we need to do this mailbox cleanup to eliminate and avoid database issues and other performance complications. Your requests for an in-game history/stats function are heard and it is in our player requests/QoL list. IF devs worked on that, it would take months because that is an engineering heavy task with UI design needs and localisation needs for all supported languages.
As for keeping some mail messages, we'll have a chat and brainstorm to discuss the ideas brought up here and the possibility of housing the information out of the game. In the meantime, if it is very important to you to obtain information about your past performance, please [reach out to support](https://kon.gg/throwdownhelp) and they should be able to help you out with that.
If there is heavy support for having a list of all previous global messages somewhere (not the individually tailored messages), I can set a task to create an article for the [Player Help Center](https://animationthrowdown.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/requests/new) showing all the stuff we have sent in the past. Let me know. We appreciate your suggestions, advice, and concerns. Please continue to exercise your voice. While I can't make any promises, I can at least try to find compromises.
Thanks, all!

If it's an issue about size, can you exclude people who have only very few mails in their box currently, say 2 or 5 or so?
I keep my own box cleaned up (currently only have 2 in there) so the space my mails take up is negligeable, even if everyone has 2 it's negligeable (since you send more than that in one day sometimes). People who haven't cleaned it up, can do so of their own accord before the deadline. That way people get to keep the mails they really want to keep and the junk gets removed.
This request should not be all that difficult to implement, simply a few extra lines of code in your PL/SQL script or whatever scripting language you use for your DB.

Ok so what you're saying is, because ppl have saved msgs for some time, it's weighing on the backend too much?
