Any useful tips? The "guide" on the wiki didn't seem particularly helpful. Setting the suggested spell on Reckless cast apparently does little to increase the character's level at a rate that can catch the pet's level. Even being more frugal about casting it and avoiding buying Pet XP upgrades didn't seem to help much.

Yes, that 'guide' is asinine, and it was really infuriating since that piece of trash was the only source of info on this challenge. Weirdly, however, there's not much more to say, and maybe that's the cause for the wiki not rewriting it.
Casting Spellshroud is the only way to finish this challenge. The bonus seem small at first, but it grows enough and in time for it to allow the char level to unlock Silence before pet level reach 200. It was balanced to seem 'too close'.
The main point is to cast Spellshroud and only it, and when the pet is almost 200, to stop it and to start executing actions to get XP. You may cast Void Lure, but only a few times, and if possible, only once. Casting ANY other spell may cause it to fail, since the room to extra spells is too small. Then you unlock Silence and cast it non stop. It is possible to finish the challenge faster, with some Void Lure at some point, but it is not worth it, sincerely.
It really looks like Spellshroud is not working, but as I said, it only shows the accumulated bonus in the end of the challenge. Also, points in Mastery are welcomed.
That's what I remember, sorry for not testing but I am in the middle of a long exile.

That's informative, thankee. I guess I was giving it up as lost too early, as it was looking very much like a war of attrition I could not win. I guess I'll get back on it next rebirth.

I was thinking on this, and this was the best description of the challenge I could write. It's based on memory, but it is probably right:
Medium lenght challenge. Don't let Pet reach level 200. Every 5 spell casts will increase the pet level, except Silence, that will reduce it. The objective of the challenge is to unlock Silence casting less than 5x200 = 1000 spells. Every starting Pet level will make it harder, and other pet exp bonuses are ignored. Spellshroud will give an accumulative 10% char bonus, and other char exp bonuses are welcome. Cast Spellshroud on reckless, and the minimum possible of other spells, including Void Lure and autoclicking. Mana sources will help to increase char level, but the main objetive is to execute actions: click, autoclick, void entities and profit. After you unlock Silence, cast it until the challenge is finished.

Hi, I'm the person who made the guide (I do agree it's badly made. But, there's not much more I can do with it.). I haven't revisited it due to me hating the challenge. And I do this in my freetime. I'd rather do my 10th run of the legion challenge to optimize that guide more than absorption just due to how it's made. I've had to finish it 3 times to check which way is the least likely for people to actually lose out on the run. I do apologize that the guide isn't very helpful (I get that a lot. And I agree with the complaints.). Sorry that it wasn't much of a help, I'll probably get to re-doing the guide sometime... so that it doesn't give me headaches from looking at it.

Hi.
I decided to rewrite the guide, based on my memory of how it went. Hopefully this one is less painful to read.

Hey, thanks for doing so! It's a lot better. I agree with a lot of your choices. And I have no complaints about any of the presented options (or, well, the presented strategy). I hope it makes less people suffer headaches (It sure didn't give me one, and I'm a frequent migraine sufferer!)
