## Basics
### What are mega bucks?
Mega bucks are special currency that can be purchased with in game earnings. They can also be earned by meeting specific goals in events or via the daily bonus. They persist through resets.
Most people will obtain a sizable number of their mega bucks through the currency exchange available from the launch menu. Each location has it’s own separate pool of mega bucks that can be bought. For example, you can use the currency exchange from Earth to buy mega bucks; then go to the moon and use the currency exchange there to buy more mega bucks.
Each mega buck purchased in a specific location will be more expensive than the last. For example, on Earth the cost of each additional mega buck increases by 999x the previous. Mega bucks bought in one location do not affect the price of mega bucks bought in another one. Thus you can easily buy a bunch of mega bucks on Earth, then switch to the moon and buy a bunch more.
The currency exchange is also frequently, but not always, available for events as well.
### What can I do with mega bucks?
Mega bucks can be used to purchase mega tickets from the mega boosts menu which is accessed from the launch screen. It’s the button just to the right of the currency exchange button. If you use mega tickets to boost every business on a planet, you get what is called a platinum boost. Once you have platinum boost, you can use mega bucks to further increase it. See the section below on platinum boosts for more detail.
Mega tickets can be bought at the rate of 1 mega ticket for 10 mega bucks or 10 mega tickets for 90 mega bucks.
Mega bucks can also be used to remove time from the Mars launch timer at the rate of 1 per 24 hour time block.
### When should I buy mega bucks?
The best time to buy mega bucks is with your left over cash right before you reset since you lose the cash but don’t lose the mega bucks.
### What are mega tickets?
Mega tickets are special currency that can be purchased in the mega boosts menu with mega bucks or gold. They persist through a reset.
Mega tickets cost 10 mega bucks for 1 or 90 mega bucks for 10. Alternatively they can be bought with gold at a rate of 20 gold for 1 or 180 gold for 10.
In each case, buying 10 tickets at once essentially gives you a free ticket over buying 10 individually.
### What can I do with mega tickets?
Mega tickets can be used to **permanently** (as in never goes away even if you reset) boost a business’ profits by **7.77x** (not 777x). To do so, you simply tap the ticket icon located under your in game cash total on the main businesses screen; then choose which business you wish to **permanently** boost by **7.77x**.
Boosting a business in this manner is referred to as “gilding” the business.
If you gild every business on a planet, you get another x10 bonus which is additive with the original 7.77x bonus for a total of 17.77x (not 77.7x). This is called a platinum boost. You also get a badge.
### When should I buy mega tickets?
You should buy a pack of 10 mega tickets once you’ve saved up 90 mega bucks, as this is cheaper than buying them individually. This may seem like a lot of mega bucks, but it isn’t. Once you unlock Mars, you should be able to complete it easily within a week. Doing so will yield over 80 mega bucks, just from Mars!
### Platinum Boosts
If you gild every business on a planet, you get a badge and a platinum boost. The platinum boost is an additive planet wide 10x increase to the mega boost. Once you have a platinum boost on a planet, you may spend more mega bucks to **permanently** increase that boost substantially.
Below is the full progression:
10 mega bucks → 1 mega ticket
90 mega bucks → 10 mega tickets
Ticket applied to one business → “Mega Boost or gilded business”, 7.77x boost
Ticket applied to all businesses on planet → “Platinum boost”, 10x planet wide boost, additive with the original boost = 17.77x total boost, 2.287x higher than previous.
Now you can further improve the boost.
10 mega bucks → 60 added to boost, total of 77.77x, 4.376x higher than previous
30 mega bucks → 700 added to boost, total of 777.77x, 10x higher than previous
50 mega bucks → 7000 added to boost, total of 7777.77x, 10x higher than previous
Maxing out the boosts for a single planet costs 180 mega bucks in total. Maxing out all 3 will cost you 540 mega bucks total.
If you had a platinum boost in version 3.2, version 3.3 allows you to increase that boost by 437.69×.
## Strategy
### How should I spend my mega bucks?
Naturally the main question people have is they want to know how to spend their mega bucks. You may think the best idea is to gild your current best business. However, it’s not. You want to gild the businesses that spend the most amount of time as your top earners. This gives you the most benefit. Fortunately, this list is very objective and the following is exactly what you should do:
Buy 1 pack of 10 tickets for 90 mega bucks.
With the first pack of 10 tickets do the following:
1. **Earth** – Gild everything but shrimp boats, hockey teams, and movie studios. This should cost you 7 tickets.
2. **Moon** – Gild oxygen bars (often referred to as O2), amusement parks, and lasers. This should cost you 3 tickets.
3. **Mars** – Gild nothing. Mars is so fast, that gilding anything here is a total waste.
You may think other businesses look better, like cheese mines or moon shoes on the moon. Trust me. They are not.
Now you have a choice to make. You can either buy another pack of 10 tickets and use them to get platinum boost on the Moon and Earth. Alternatively you can buy just 3 more tickets to platinum boost Earth, and then focus on increasing that boost.
I did the later.
### How many mega bucks can I reasonably expect to earn?
I have made no IAP in the game and have been playing since the game was released. As of 4/26/2016, I’ve completed all the events, Mars, and the Moon and have earned a total of 332 mega bucks.
The break down is such:
**Earth** – 68 mega bucks. I expect to very slowly and gradually earn more here.
**Moon** – 63 mega bucks. The last one took me a month or two. I will be unable to earn any more without game updates.
**Mars** – 84 mega bucks. 82 of them were fast. The last two were stretch goals, with the last one taking me a few months. I will be unable to earn any more without game updates.
**Total from core locations** – 215
This means 117 of my mega bucks have come from events.
### What’s the currency exchange rate for the core locations?
For all 3 core locations, the first mega buck costs 1 decillion dollars. After that the price of each one increases accordingly:
**Earth** – 999x
**Moon** – 808x
**Mars** – 1200x
### ~~If I only need to buy 180 mega bucks worth of tickets, it sounds like I’m going to have a lot of mega bucks left over.~~
~~Yep. How you choose to spend them is up to you. I advocate saving them in case they release more content that allows you to spend mega bucks in new ways. Alternatively, you can spend your mega bucks and gild Mars for the badge.~~
~~The choice is yours.~~
I hope you saved them. Platinum boosts should ensure you’ve got plenty of use for those mega bucks now. Keep in mind, even if you fully max out Earth, they may add more boosts. Save those mega bucks folks, and avoid buyer’s remorse.
## FAQ
### Are mega boosts permanent?
You tell me.

### I bought a mega boost, and the business didn’t get a 777x boost. What gives?
Read very carefully.

### Will resetting lower the cost of mega bucks back down to 1 decillion?
No.
### Is it possible to earn all of the mega bucks available in the currency exchange?
At this time, no. For example, Mars has mega bucks priced all the way to 11 uncentillion. You will never get anywhere close to that without extensive use of creative game mechanics.
### I screwed up. Can I get a refund on my tickets or swap them around to boost other businesses?
Not that I know of. Maybe support can help you. Contact [adventurecapitalist@hyperhippo.ca](mailto:adventurecapitalist@hyperhippo.ca) and ask nicely.
### Why don’t they make platinum boosts use tickets, or provide a way to convert tickets back to mega bucks?
This was discussed in the release notes.

A conversion feature would mean you could buy gold, use gold to buy tickets, and then convert the tickets to mega bucks. This is exactly what they indicated in the release notes they did not want to allow. If you’re unhappy with your purchases, contact [adventurecapitalist@hyperhippo.ca](mailto:adventurecapitalist@hyperhippo.ca) and ask them nicely if they will help you.

it was like 3.7 quinnonagintillion. Took quite a bit of regular resets for angel accumulation to get too.

As completely accurate as this post is, (It is from Jon, after all) I still gilded the entirety of all three planets for the badges. Was it a waste? Objectively, yes. Subjectively, not in the slightest.

You don’t really need to gild Amusement Parks on the moon. Yes, its the top earner at the end of the game but its not a major player in the slog to 2880 like oxygen and lasers are. After you hit 2880, the moon is faster than mars.

It’s better than any other alternative and shaves at least a week off of moon completion.

Technically, one won’t need to Mega Boost anything at all. One can stitch together a fancy suit from all those gold Mega Tickets. If one were to convert Mega Bucks into them.

I’m just shy of 2880 and Parks is 0.003%. I’m told that after 2880, the whole thing is over in a couple of days. I’ll eat crow if I end up needing to gild Parks at the very end to get some final upgrade or two but I’m actually worried that the post-2880 moon will be too short.
You’re right, if you have an extra gild for the moon then Parks would be the one after oxygen & lasers, its just not as crucial as the other two. Gilding oxygen has taken months off of my time and gilding lasers has saved me a few weeks since hitting 600.

Assuming you bought a pack of 10 tickets, you should have an extra gild.

Hey, Jon. I dig your post and I really appreciate the advice. Was wondering if you could help me and give me a tip…
Reading thru your post, you mention spending tickets on everything except shrimp, hockey and movies. I didn’t purchase any IAP purchases so I’m slowing gaining tickets. So far, I’ve only gilded oil on earth, o2 bars and lasers on the moon. I currently have one mega ticket in the bank with another coming shortly (2 mega bucks short from the next mega ticket).
My question is, which next business would be the the MOST optimal to gild on earth and the moon??

My guide covers the moon…after all you’ve gilded 2 of the 3 I recommended…so the next one would be the third one, parks. On Earth I’d do doughnuts or maybe lemons next.
Honestly, though, I’d advise you to stop buying tickets 1 by 1. No IAP doesn’t mean no tickets. Mars is easily completed for over 80 megabucks in a matter of days (half a day really). That combined with one event (like the one going on right now) will get you to 90 easy.

First of all great post Jon. This is very helpful. I gilded all 10 of the moon businesses early on and with this last update it multiplies profit of the moon x10 but it is still going suuuper slow getting to 2880 O2’s. I’ve got 75 megabucks now with this last event and lemons/ oil gilded on earth. Should I save till I have 90 megabucks?

Also I don’t know if anyone has mentioned it, but it is a HUGE Megabuck waste to spend them on Mars or moon launch reduction time for anyone who is considering it.

It doesn’t really matter at this point. Had you waited, you would’ve had the 90. Now if you wait until 90, you’ll have 2 extra tickets which do you no good on Mars.
Might as well ticket the rest of the Earth now, get 5 more, and get Earth all platinum.

If you had a platinum boost in version 3.2, version 3.3 allows you to increase that boost by 437.69×.
Does it mean I get better total boost if I make platinum boost in 3.2 and upgrade app to 3.3 and increase boost?
Or upgrade to 3.3 and make platinum boost?

Platinum Boost is when you gild all your businesses and gain an additional 10x to the 7.77x you get by gilding those businesses. There are no differences between the Platinum Boosts in version 3.2 and 3.3. You do not get a “better” Platinum Boost.
In version 3.3, the Platinum Boost Upgrades were introduced to upgrade the Platinum Boost up to a 7777.77×. Or effectively, a 437.69x increase over the 17.77x Platinum Boost sans PBUs.
So it makes sense to upgrade to version 3.3 to get the PBUs.

No. I only have the gold suit and ads, and maxing out the boosts got me from 540 → 560 unlocks.
Now I’m back to days between doublings.
