Welcome to the FAQ & Guide to Sword Fight, I'm writing this due to a lot of players asking repetitive questions in the chat, and this should help with those that do not use the chat/those who prefer to check forums first, and so on.
So to start:
A few notes to the basics of the game.
You start as a novice with a level of 1. The game uses a progressive system, where you unlock new content as you go, this will be explained below.
The tutorial includes the fundamentals of the game, however a lot of people tend to skip them, so here is the short version; You begin with three main statistics; Attack, Hit and Defend, those stats increase by 4 every level, while your Health and Damage increases exponentially the higher level you have, however enemies currently scale faster than your character in terms of Health and Damage.
**Attack** is your chance to attempt an attack.
**Hit** is your chance to hit the enemy if you attempt an attack.
**Defend** is your chance to block/defend against your enemy's attack, if the enemy attempts one.
The stats are paired against your enemy stats in the "**Stats**" tab, next to the settings, this will show you what the percentage (%) chance of your attack/hit and defend is, the system is simple, your Attack vs enemy Attack, your Hit vs enemy Defend and your Defend vs enemy Hit, your and your enemy % stats add up to 100%.
Below your and the enemy's Health bar, is a **Stamina** bar which indicates if you attack normally, less often if it is in the dark orange zone, or almost never if it's in the red zone.
Both you and the enemy will attempt to regenerate stamina if you both go to around half of the stamina.
You also get a skill called Concentration, which shows up in the "**Skills**" tab. It's positioned up above the Health bar and it's essentially a green icon that fills up as you click the game screen, currently has no limit to how much it can stack it's duration, as long as you keep clicking, and it gives you +6 to Attack/Hit/Defend per level of the skill, starting from level 0.
After finishing a few of the first training levels, you will unlock the "**Equip**" tab, which shows you the equipment you have and allows you to change your **Weapon Styles** which are as follows: Fencing, Two-Handed (2h), Sword & Shield and Dual Swords (sometimes called Dual Wield in the chat).
You gain three skill points from the tutorial which allow you to buy your first skill, and then you earn one skill point per level of your character.
You will unlock tournaments which give gold and show the range of levels of the enemies you will be facing, along with the reward.
Tournaments increase your rank which I will talk about later, and once you beat the 32-60 level tournament called "Journeyman Tournament", you will unlock the prestige/ascending function of this idle game, which lets you Promote your Disciple. Once a Disciple is promoted, he becomes your master and you start with a new Disciple.
Your master unlocks a mastery skill tree in the new gained "**Mastery**" tab, which allow you to have bonuses for your new disciple.
This is just the beginning.
**FAQ & Guide** Q = Question, A = Answer
## Stats
**Q.** How much do my stats increase by each level?
**A.** You gain 4 Attack/Hit/Defend per character level, and some Health/Damage that is exponential, your enemies scale faster in terms of Health and Damage compared to you.
**Q.** What is the duel tab in stats?
**A.** It shows you your top 8 fights, listed in a descending order based on your highest exp/sec gain.
**Q.** Why is a lower level enemy shown above a higher level enemy in the top 8 duels?
**A.** Because exp/sec from that lower level would be higher, as exp/sec is based on the level of the enemy (higher level means more exp), but it's also based on how fast you kill him.
**Q.** Why did I lose so much Stamina after the enemy attacked me?
**A.** Stamina loss is based on a percentage of health loss. About half of the Max Health that you lose as a Percentage, is also lost in Stamina, so for example if you lose 50% Health after one attack, you will also lose 25% Stamina.
**Q.** How do I increase my rank?
**A.** There are 6 ranks in the game; Novice, Scholar, Journeyman, Provost, Master and Grand Master, those are unlocked by winning tournaments, they will be unlocked in a linear fashion, one by one, with the one exception being Novice as you start with it.
**Q.** Okay but I have 0% offline experience gain, why does duel tab matter?
**A.** You will earn 20% offline experience gain per rank along with about +50 to all stats and some gold/experience multiplier.
**Q.** Wait, I have 2500% offline experience bonus (current max) should I just log off the game?
**A.** You can also keep chatting/playing by saving the game and loading it after some time, since it will load your save and give you offline exp based on how long ago the save was, basically the same as exiting the game but you can stay to chat if you want. Save + loading also helps later on when you can progress fast.
## Skills
**Q.** What is the Green Icon above Health?
**A.** It's your concentration bar, you can click the screen which will fill it up for a certain duration, for the benefits as seen in the Skills tab (Concentration skill).
**Q.** So I have fighting skill points, what should I invest them into?
**A.** As far as I see it, it's the most benefitial to start with Endurance up to level 5, regardless of your Weapon Style, because it will give you more Health and Stamina, which is great since you will be able to Attack and Defend more early game, then Strength is a good second skill, followed by Aggression/Accuracy/Weapon Style Passives/Concentration.
**Q.** Can I reset my Skills?
**A.** You can't reset them through normal means, you would have to promote your Disciple into a master, or retire him, which will just delete the whole character.
**Q.** How does Fencing's Attack Speed bonus work?
**A.** It speeds up the animation speed which in turn makes fights go faster, so you progress faster overall and your offline exp/sec gain will also increase as fights will take less time to finish on average than before.
**Q.** I've put some skill points into the Attack/Defend/Other stances/Weapon Style Skills but I don't get the stat bonus from it
**A.** You gain bonuses from stances only if you have that stance selected (you select the stance left from your Health bar by clicking one). Current stances: Attack/Defend/Barrage/Blitz/Guard.
You also gain the bonuses from the Weapon Styles (Fencing/Two-handed/Sword & Shield/Dual Swords) only if you selected this Style in the Equip tab.
**Q.** My Skills are Silver now, why?
**A.** If one of your current masters (you can have three after school upgrades), ever had some levels in Skills, then up to the highest level the master/s had in the particular skill, the skill cost will be reduced to 2. This can be further reduced to 1 with Library, explained in the school section.
## Equipment
**Q.** What is Str? Why can't I equip my weapon/armor?
**A.** Str (Strength) is located in the skills tab.
**Q.** Which style is the best for the Early Game?
**A.** I believe that Two-Handed (2h) Style is the best early game due to the fact that you will be one shotting enemies early on, which will add to your offline experience since you will be killing enemies in one hit. Fencing is the second best Style for early game as it has an additional 15% Attack Speed, which also helps with the offline exp gain as explained in the "Skills" section. After this, it's the Dual Swords, and lastly, the weakest stance considered by me is the Sword & Shield as you want to progress more by killing faster early on, not just surviving more.
**Q.** Then which Style is the best for the Late Game?
**A.** Currently, it is the Dual Swords Style, because you're allowed to wear two Rapiers, which give you a nice Critical Chance, as well as the Dual Swords passive Skill, which gives you a good Attack stat buff. Once you unlock Skills later, the most efficient build will be Crit/Blitz/Dual Sword Style, as your Attack will be almost the same as Hit, making it better than Fencing which loses a lot on the Attack stat, and your Crit Chance will be higher due to the extra weapon you can carry (Rapier). More on this at the "Additional Information" section.
**Q.** Which equipment is the best?
**A.** Currently, the negative stats from certain equipments make them less worthwhile than they look, which makes Rapier the best weapon for all weapon styles (except early 2h, which Claymore would be better for as you will be killing enemies in one hit easier with it for more offline exp, and overall), while the Cloth and Leather are the best armors.
I usually go for Leather as the early Health increase helps more than -10 Attack/Hit/Def (also Attack/Hit/Def isn't based on the total percentage the two fighters have, and instead it works a bit differently, for example, if you have 100 Attack and the enemy has 1100 Attack, it's the same difference as if you had 3000 Attack and the enemy had 4000 Attack, you will have a 2% chance to Attack while the enemy will have 98% (caps) the only way to go below 2% is if you used the Defense Stance which nullifies your attack completely). Buckler is the best shield type because it has no negatives and the negatives in the other shields are going to slow down the progress, even if the Health is nice.
**Q.** Does equipment have a cap upgrade level?
**A.** Technically around 1k, since the game won't handle it anymore and you will be unable to sell/game crashes. However the developer plans to add a gear cap, it currently states that 500 is the cap in the updates but it's not implemented yet due to a small mistake.
## Shop
**Q.** Are there more items in the Shop than what I currently see?
**A.** Currently no.
**Q.** I can't sell some items in the Shop even though I don't have them equipped?
**A.** Your character has items based on all 4 styles shown in the Equip tab, so you will always need one armor, one shield and two weapons, you can change Stances to swap all the gears around so then you can sell the useless gear.
**Q.** If I can just keep using the 20% profit on selling award to get infinite money, isn't that broken?
**A.** It will likely be changed in the future since it makes other gold bonus skills such as Advocate/Diligence in the Mastery tab, and some other awards useless, and you can in theory reach close to e308 gold (double variable cap in code), you will also spend a lot of time on this, it will only help you early game (not that it's weak) and you will lose the gold after promoting anyway.
The intention was for School to be easier to achieve if someone knew about this award prior to it. However as enemies currently scale faster than you in stats, you will end up not needing gold at all later, as no matter how much you upgrade your gear, the only way to progress will be crits and damage/health will be irrelevant, this will change in the future.
## Promoting, Tournaments & Awards
**Q.** Is there any advice to winning Tournaments?
**A.** The Dev made the save & load buttons so you can save in Tourneys, he explained that this was because you could still lose some fights due to chance, even if the enemy is weaker. Otherwise I suggest higher stats and equipment level for Tournaments. Higher Attack/Hit/Def stats can be achieved by leveling up, Form (mastery) and Prowess (mastery) because Prowess gives you skill points so you can upgrade stat bonus Skills.
**Q.** So I finally beat the level 16-30 Tournament and I can now promote my disciple, when should I do it?
**A.** You gain a mastery skill point per every 5 levels your disciple had when he **Promotes**, I suggest to promote as early as level 40 or 45.
**Q.** I promoted my Disciple, what mastery skills should I choose on my new master?
**A.** I suggest to get Innovation level 1 as you will unlock an award by having Innovation level 1 on three masters, then all the remaining points should be invested into Mentor.
**Q.** I've heard of the words "awards/achievements" but I can't see any.
**A.** You will be able to see the first page of awards right as you unlock and buy the **School**, awards give you bonus effects after meeting the requirements.
**Q.** I can also retire my character rather than promoting, should I do it?
**A.** Retiring your character means you will lose your current Disciple, your masters will be unaffected, this is likely only in case you want to get early awards and/or you have messed up your skills.
**Q.** Do I lose anything if I retire/promote to master?
**A.** You will lose your equipment along with the upgrades, your character level, fighting skills, skill points that weren't used up and gold, however you will NOT lose your School buildings, Platinum, Scroll levels in the library and your mastery skills, unless you overwrite the master with your current disciple as you promote him, in that case your overwritten master will be gone along with all his mastery skills.
**Q.** Innovation and Mentor? Why should I not get the Advocate? It seems good?
**A.** Yeah it looks good on paper but there are specific three awards (likely to be changed later) when you sell 20/50/200 items, you will gain 100/110/120% money back from the items you sell respectively, you can unlock awards prior to buying school, but you need to know the requirements to unlock them.
**Q.** Isn't Form worthless?
**A.** It's a very good mastery skill later on, you have 6 ranks as mentioned before and the skill gives you 4+ to all three stats for each level of this skill. The mastery skill cap later on is 8, so at lvl 8 form on all three masters, you get 576 additional Attack/Hit/Defend.
**Q.** What does Prowess do?
**A.** Gives you 6 additional skill points for the Skills tab to your new Disciples.
**Q.** How does Leadership work?
**A.** It gives 1 mastery skill point per level, this stacks with all three of your masters so for example, if you have three masters and each of them has the Leadership level 1 mastery skill, then the new master will get 3 mastery skill points. You will also benefit from the Leadership skill of the master you're going to overwrite with your Disciple's promotion. It's only worthwhile to buy it as long as it costs less than 3 mastery skill points.
**Q.** How does Innovation work?
**A.** It increases your skill cap based on the fighting skills (Skill tab) that your previous disciple had as he was promoted. Innovation says it gives +2 to the skill cap, and here is an example of how it works: Say you maxed the Endurance Skill to level 5 with your first Disciple, then you promoted him and bought the level 1 Innovation, your new Disciple's Endurance level cap would be 7 now, however if that same Disciple only got Endurance to level 3 then got Promoted to a 2nd master (you can unlock up to three master slots with school, explained below) then got yourself a level 1 Innovation on your new master, it wouldn't do anything as adding 2 to your Endurance level 3 would make the cap 5, but the previous master's Endurance was initially 5 and with Innovation 1 on that same master, the cap became 7, which takes precedence over your second Disciple's cap of 5 in this example.
**Q.** How do I benefit from multiple masters?
**A.** You can upgrade mastery skills on all three of them, which add together except Innovation (explained how it works above). It is important to keep the exp mastery skills balanced as they add together from all masters, e.g. if the first master has a level 2 mentor skill and the second master has it on level 3, it's effectively like a level 5 mentor. Once the mastery skills are added from all masters, they multiply each other out in this fashion (Mentor x Discipline x Dedication).
**Q.** I can't promote my Disciple anymore, why?
**A.** You can only promote to a master after the level 16-30 Tournament which gives you the Provost rank.
**Q.** Do I unlock more mastery skills? If so, how?
**A.** You will unlock the first 5 mastery skills as you get the Provost rank (16-30 level Tournament won) then the next 5 set of skills after you win the 32-60 level Tournament for the Master rank, the last set of 5 mastery skills is unlocked when you win the 65-100 level Tournament, which unlock the Grand Master rank. You have to promote your disciples in order to receive the new mastery skills of course, you don't just get them right as you win the Tournament since your Disciple isn't promoted to a master yet. You always have to go through all the Tournaments to unlock the mastery skills for the current Disciple, otherwise if you only get the Provost rank and promote, then this master will only have the first 5 mastery skills.
## School/Mastery & more on Awards
**Q.** How do I unlock School then?
**A.** Once you have one master, you just have to win the level 32-60 Tournament for the Master rank, which will give you the option to buy the School in the "**Mastery**" tab.
**Q.** School costs too much, how do I unlock it?
**A.** You can get the 20% sell item profit award by selling 200 items, then you can buy any item from the Shop, go to the Equip tab, click it, click "max" upgrade button, then sell it in Shop again.
**Q.** Man this one enemy just did like 10 attacks on me, saying "combo" and straight annihilated me, what do I do?
**A.** As you go higher in the Training Level and/or win Tournaments, the higher tier enemies will show up on the lower levels and will use either of the three stances; Barrage/Blitz/Guard that you can also unlock from awards yourself. They give you a chance to perform special attacks such as Power Strike, Combo Attack and Counter Attack. The game currently is similar to a Rock Paper Scissors based on which Stance you use, Attack based characters kill Hit based characters faster, and in this same fashion, so do the Hit characters against Defend characters, and Defend against Attack characters, this also goes works similar with the Stances as shown; Barrage > Blitz > Guard > Barrage.
**Q.** I want to Dual Wield Claymores but I can only get 10/15/20 Str, how do I get more?
**A.** The current cap on all fighting skills is 20, your initial cap is 10 with Innovation, and after two awards "Brainstorm: having at least lvl 1 Innovation on all three masters" and "6th Star Award", you increase the skill cap by 5, from each of those two awards. The developer intends to go above 30 skill cap in the future and because of the current cap, you cannot Dual Wield Claymores.
**Q.** 6th Star Award? What are you talking about mate?
**A.** You will unlock the 2nd page of awards and Rivals in the mastery tab after you win the level 65-100 Tournament, which gives you the last rank, Grand Master. Killing Rivals for the first time awards you with one star, this will unlock a level 10 bonus to a skill (explained below) and you can also earn the 2nd and 3rd star from the Rivals by meeting the requirements shown as you click them in the **Rival** tab (Mastery tab) then killing the Rival while meeting the requirement specified. You don't have to meet all requirements at once for 3 stars, you can do them individually. Stars also give an experience % bonus as shown in the Rival page.
**Q.** Are there any rather complicated awards that I might ask about?
**A.** The Headmaster award requires you to have a master that is at least 50 levels higher than the other master/s you currently have. This will only work if you have at least two masters, because if you only had one master and replaced him with a new one, it wouldn't count as the overwritten master would be gone.
**Q.** How do I beat rivals after many failed attempts?
**A.** It's mainly about the stats, since if you have a way higher Attack/Hit % chance than them, you will likely win, crit helps with this too. Other than stats, you can use a Stance that has an advantage over the Rival's Stance, the advantages were mentioned in the "Skills" section.
**Q.** What does >50% Barrage/Blitz/Guard mean on the 3rd Star of some Rivals?
**A.** It means that you have to use the required Stance for more than half of the fight (time).
**Q.** So what are those level 10 skill bonuses?
**A.** These are awards from each of the stars you earn from Rivals, this means that for the Skills that you get to lvl 10 while having an award related to those Skills, you will receive a certain bonus which will work regardless of your Weapon Style/Stance. A common misunderstanding is how the Barrage/Blitz/Guard stance lvl 10 bonus works, but it's just an additional 100% of the base chance (e.g. lvl 20 blitz gives 23% combo chance, so you get 23% more) if the conditions are fulfilled, and prior to the bonuses, you always had a 2x bonus chance to special attacks if you used the required Stance, hence why the lvl 10 bonus description currently says it will be 3x if the Stance is used with requirements met, and 2x if it's not used yet the requirements are still met.
**Q.** Can I get more than three masters from the school building?
**A.** Three masters is the current limit.
**Q.** What does the Sleeping Quarters do?
**A.** It increases your platinum/min gain, you can see that there's a "platinum per student" stat right next to the school level, and the Sleeping Quarters increase the number of students, so effectively plat/min is increased.
**Q.** After getting Training Room in school, should I start from Novice or Advanced Disciple?
**A.** Adv. Disciple has no downside, it's a straight skip through level and ranks with some additional gold to boot (rank updates as you reach the level equal to the tournament max range level e.g. Tournament 16-30 gives you the Provost rank, so if your Training Room lets you start at level 30, you will start with the Provost rank). Novice is only there in case you missed out on the Late Bloomer award (get a Novice character to level 50). You might also want to start from Novice just for the sake of fun if that's your thing.
**Q.** What does Library do?
**A.** It allows you to research scrolls, you click the **Scroll** page in the mastery tab, and select what you want to research, the speed of researching scrolls depends all three of your masters' fighting/mastery skills, this will be shown when you click on the skills in the scroll page (Mastery tab). Another main way to make research faster is to get Wisdom from your mastery skills (requires Grand Master rank as it's within the last set of mastery skills) and the researcher award speeds up the researching too. Skills researched in the Library will show up with a gold icon on your Skills/mastery skills tab, this means that if you research level 1 Innovation, it will cost 1 skill point, but since you only researched level 1, the next level will cost the usual amount. Lastly, Library has 3 levels, which allow the max fighting skills to be golden up to level 5/10/15 per library level, and mastery 2/4/6 per library level as well.
**Q.** Some of my scroll Skills are shaded out and I can't research them?
**A.** This means you don't have a single level into that fighting/mastery skill in all of your three masters. You can bypass this late game when you get the 18 rival stars award, which lets Innovation increase the scroll skills (for research speed) by 2 per Innovation level.
**Q.** I unlocked Forge with School level 4, what does it do?
**A.** It currently adds a base 50% per forge level to items and 25% to shields, which slowly closes the gap between the Damage/Health bonus of the early weapons, armors and shields, this also affects the upgrade %.
**Q.** I saw some people writing about School level 5 and Library level 3? How do I get those?
**A.** You get those when you unlock the "12th Star Award" award.
**Q.** Why does Library level 3 allow your mastery skils to be researched up to level 6 while the cap is 5?
**A.** Before you even get 12th Star Award for School level 5, you unlock the 9th Star Award which adds 3 to the mastery skill cap, allowing mastery skills to go up to level 8.
**Q.** Do my scrolls research while offline?
**A.** Yes.
**Q.** Do I earn Platinum while offline?
**A.** Yes.
## Additional Information
You can skip Training Levels by winning Tournaments and Rival fights, you also start at the Training Level that your Training Room offers.
Final Exp calculation: Base Exp (100%) x 1.5 (Late Bloomer award) x 1.5 (Prodigy award) x (Total bonus of the Sum from all masters' Mentor skills x Total bonus of the Sum from all masters' Discipline skills x Total bonus of the Sum from all masters' Dedication skills) x Rival exp bonus (shown on Rival page bottom right) x Offline exp % if you're offline or loading the save (note: Late Bloomer and Prodigy do multiply your exp by 1.5x (50%)).
What Skills do you suggest for a late game Dual Swords Crit build? I'd max out in this following order: Speed > Crit > Blitz > Dual Swords > Aggression > Accuracy (if you have the attack level 10 bonus) Attack level 10 > Power (if you have the attack level 10 bonus) > Concentration (this could be before Power, but only if you want to click) > Vigilance > Focus > whatever you see fit.
Currently the Technique skill (unlocked by attaining the Strategist award) is pretty weak for the late game as you will likely win fights before it charges up.
You can however use Barrage to get a higher Attack stat, then once your Combo Special Attack starts, swap to Blitz for more Hit during the Combo, however you would lose the initial Combo Chance bonus.
Not sure if i missed it or if it wasn't in the faq but how many stats do you get per level (excluding any from skills and weapons and mastery skills) how much does the price increase per level of a piece of equipment (the answer is 2x the price of the last level) how much does the xp from enemies increase from training level to training level (1.3x and a boss such as a rival gives like 2x the xp of another mob of its level i think) how much does the gold increase, how are the percentages determined for attack hit and defend (equations) ?
Great guide TG, keep up great work both here and helping newbies in room1, we cheering for u mate =P
Edit: To all new players: read the guide, it takes only few minutes and gives u much needed info about this game's meta, it works very well, thx to OP and his advices i reached lvl 240+ in 4-5days of playtime and beat all current content easly- this guy is somewhere around lvl 400 now, he knows what he is talking about ;)

I am pretty new, what do you mean when you say "Attack level 10 bonus"... does that mean you have to raise "Attack" to level 10 and you get a bonus... or is there an unlock for this bonus?? Thanks in advance.
U get bonuses after u kill rivals, if u are not there yet dont worry about it, once u are comfortably killing ur first rival(110-130lvl depending how optimised ur character is) u will know enough ;)
I would like to know if the headmaster bonus applys when the new master is the same level with the hightest master.
Or he must be at least one level higher?

at least one level higher

Its up to date with very minor tweaks, endgame instead of 2xrap u should use clay+rap which gives u 44%crit but u can kill enemy in 4 hits, and also use cloth instead of leather for faster fight animations- u will lose/win fights quicker so u will get little higher offline exp(at very high lvl enemies 1shot u with lots of dmg to spare so ur heatlth doesnt really matter).
Next content update in few days so till then this guide will be still great, dunno how good it will be after that since we dont really know how much is gonna be changed :)
I don't get the maths behind the Form master skill. If it ultimately caps at 8, and gives 4 points per level, then capping the skill with three masters will yield 4x8x3=96. The FAQ, however, says 576. But how?

"per rank" (novice, scholar, etc etc.)
Absolutely out of date.
You should aim for weapon dmg builds (2h barrage claymore), then fall back on usual (dw clay-rap) crit build when the scaling eventually outpaces your weapon ups.

What's an indictator of that for someone new, of scaling outpacing weapon..ups?

It's really not that complicated. Are your normal hits a sizable fraction of your crits Y/N? If yes, you'll be killing dudes in a handful of hits even if you can't estimate whether your normal hits are 25%, 10%, or 5% of your crits. If not, you can probably see that battles on average only end once you are lucky enough to get enough crits. Obviously, if your battles only end quickly via a crit quota, you either have to buy weapon upgrades ("weapon ups") to make your weapon damage decent again, or if that's too expensive increase your crit chance.
On another note, I've noticed an experience hiccup on my disciples at a very predictable point. Is it because Discipline is tracked per master's level? i.e. if I have one master at 50, one at 100, and the last at 150, will my disciple will only benefit from the latter two Discipline levels at level 50+ and the last one after level 100?

Obviously, if your battles only end quickly via a crit quota, you either have to buy weapon upgrades ("weapon ups") to make your weapon damage decent again, or if that's too expensive increase your crit chance.

Is it because Discipline is tracked per master's level? i.e. if I have one master at 50, one at 100, and the last at 150, will my disciple will only benefit from the latter two Discipline levels at level 50+ and the last one after level 100?
Discipline is multiplicative with dedication. and there are no bonuses for being the same level as a master.
