I noticed that it's possible to build an Alpha space gate on a planet in Andromeda, and I was wondering about what happens in that case: does it work to warp you back to Soledad directly and immediately from, say, Volor Ashtar?
The Beta gates look less useful, linking as they do to Bharash, which is far, far away from Ishtar Gate.
I'd simply test it myself, but it's going to be at least another 2 time warps and rebuilds before I'll need it/afford it, but I bet someone here has either tested it or made use of it.

The gates do exactly what they say. If you build an beta gate in Perseus Arm, it will take you to Bharash. If you build an alpha gate in Andromeda, it will still take you to Solidad. The point of Beta gate is to take resources/ships from Andromeda Heart to Perseus Arm. Its not as useful as alpha gate, but it gives you more opportunities to move stuff around and share resources, and takes away the feeling of being "trapped" in andromeda heart.

Thanks for the confirmation, that's what I thought might be possible.
FWIW, the only use for the Beta gate I can think of is to send your heaviest war fleet back for more tournament battles. Perseus should be fully conquered, stable and productive by the time you can afford a Beta gate, so I can't see any reason to rob resources from Andromeda where they're needed most and sending them where they're needed least.
