Poof! We just released Vanish Scrolls.
We have some enhancements for them in mind, but first it'd be great to hear what you think of them as they are now.
Current Rule:
Use vanish scrolls to enter enhanced stealth mode. Your chance of being spotted when sneaking or pilfering is 0% plus 10% for each monster adjacent to the space on which you end your turn. You'll automatically un-vanish if you attack, guard, use a scroll, or leave the room. While you're vanished, monsters will stop moving - except slimes, which will behave as if you never vanished.

I've picked up a few of them, but I never bothered to use them. By the time I get a vanish scroll I am ready to face the dragon. In other words vanish scrolls drop so late in the dungeon run that their usefullness is low.

They're great against dragons though, to sneak away from them, or to get the +2 stealth attack bonus. If you're desperate to kill a dragon, going haste + hit + vanish + hit is very good if you have no plans for sneaking (particularly if the dragon is cornered, so you get an extra bonus -- you can often get that by casting fire and/or leaping around it first).

I've seen plenty of vanish scrolls in the starting levels, sometimes. Plus, there are many ways to use them. Evasively, sneaking around, looting things, and avoiding pesky mage attacks. Offensively, it's a great way to sneak up to enemies and it contributes to attack bonus a lot, especially against Dragons or hard to hit enemies. I always make sure I get at least more than 3 Vanish Scrolls as I enter the lair. One to sneak around and collect the loot and potions, then use the rest to lay waste to dragons, especially when the RNG is not on my side.
