Just out of curiosity. (and not trying to stir the pot or fan the flames) butttt, does a Steam port mean that focus will be shifted to the newer platform. I view Steam as a whole different ballgame than just porting over to Armorgames. I'm all for new platforms for you as a developer because it gives more money. More money=more devotion=more updates=happier players=Spending more money. Basically, my question is...Will the devolopment of a serious port (not just moving to another website) such as Steam OR mobile mean less updates/abandonment or one platform getting updates before the other? Again, I'm all for the money aspect of this but I would like to know how it could affect future gameplay. I personally would consider having my save transported to a new platform if it meant I had to, but I can't speak for the community as a whole.
Btw, awesome game. I'm sure you've seen my save file floating around somewhere for like...a hot minute. heh, XD

The biggest amount of work is in the initial port because armor games, kongregate and steam have different APIs for things like payment, high scores, player informations, achievements and so on.
Standalone unity (for steam) is able to directly save files and can handle things like copy/paste as well, but most of the work should still be around the APIs.
Because unity is in theory able to handle the various versions, things like new content should barely demand any work to push to all three versions, so unless some major hurdles come to hinder him we should get the updates on all three versions nearly simultaneously without much additional delays.

Nah,it wouldn't mean that at all. I still have to dive into things and figure out the particulars of how I make a Steam port, on a technical level. But, actually making an .exe program, one that Steam would take, is literally as simple as clicking "Build" in Unity and selecting an option for "PC Mac and Linux". Then it's made in quite literally 5 seconds. So, once I make all the proper conenction to Steamworks for things such as the Sellout shop, possibly steam cloud, achievements, whatever (this is the part that coudl take more than month), making a new build to go with it is real simple I imagine once the port's done, making an update for all platforms could be done in the same hour.
Now, I hear Steam has terms like needing to get all updates first (Again, still need to do all my research!), so the worst case scenario for future updates may be that I launch on Steam first, let them find all the bugs, and then either later that day or within 1-2 days give you guys the same update. This should be the worst case scenario. Kongregate will still get** every single update**, I'll still solve issues as quickly I can, and keep active in chatting with you guys and keeping up to date on your feedback :)

Are there still any plans to introduce the new evil difficulty resource you spoke about in the past, or is that no longer happening?

*looks at the last line on the patch notes for 0.410*
I would say it's still happening soon-ish or it would make no sense to alter the display and write about it in the patch notes, it probably ended up being a whole lot more work than expected (and possibly made a negative impact on the processing time per frame).

yep, it's planned at... some point. It may have to wait til after the steam port. I also have some early ideas for a pseudo fetch-quest system upon defeating the Beast, where you'd get a random task to loot X or Y kind of lootable, and consume/delete it to send it to the beast. Then you'd earn some number of points for the quest and turn it in for PP-style perks.

That sounds like a geniune good idea, wonder what kind of things these fetch quests would give...

Really? I've checked https://partner.steamgames.com/steamdirect and don't see such an clause. Not sure if it appears in the full license. BTW, if that happens, just don't release to Steam. It's evil. Report to law enforcement instead for anti-competitive practice.

Jeez, it's almost been a month since the last post! So to recap what's happened:
* NGU had a Krismuss Update
* I left on a 2 week or so exile (christmas vacation) starting on the 20th
* Got back home a couple days ago
In that time I've been coding up a storm, and even streaming it over at twitch.tv/paraguayyy ! During the weekdays i may get into a habit of doing that, if you want to see a glimpse into the madness that is NGU coding.
So far .412 had been focused on revisitng the stupid newbie experience and fixing a lot of little "nitpicks" and needed polish for NGU. A gigantic excel sheet was shared with me that contained over 100 nitpicks, from qol additions, to (many) small typos, to small bugs. So far about 80 of these bugs have been slain, a few extra ones found along the way have been added to the corpse pile, and 20 more have been added to this sheet anyways! :D
In addition, I've done a number of small design changes to the very early games. Some of these include:
* Locking buttons to all exp menus except energy at the start. When adventure unlocks, those exp menus open up. When magic unlocks, it and the misc pruchases menu are unlocked. When GCT is defeated, the ygdrasil purchases are unlocked. Hovering over the buttons when disabled gives you directions on how to unlock them.
* Money pit is similarly locked, and unlocked when you have 100,000 gold (enough to get a prize if you dump it in the pit).
* The tutorial can no longer be advanced by clicking anywhere. Each tooltip has explicit instuctions on using the keyboard keys to advance/go back on the tooltip to compensate.
* Feature buttons that are locked, up until the time machine, now describe how they are unlocked when hovered over.
* The Magic Bar is now actually locked (dimmed) until the feature is unlocked. When locked, hovering over the magic bar now tell you what unlocks the feature.
* Equipment tooltips for early boosts and cloth gear more explicitly outline the benefits of merging and boosting.
* Tutorial zone now drops fewer sticks, but can now drop boosts.
* Boost drop rates up to cave have increased by roughly 20%
And probably a lot more that has skipped my mind.

I don't know when this was added, but right click in the itopod perk list spends as much as possible on the perk you right clicked, I just noticed and it saved me a good 10+ clicks after having harvested the fruits, so thanks a lot for that (it's going to be superb when going for those 1k cap ones too).

Now that big-ass anniversary update is out. I do have to give some potential disappointing news. It's likely that you may not see an update to NGU until something like April. This is because i'm going to finally work on porting NGU to Steam! I'll keep you guys posted on how that's coming along, even post a store link once it exists. I Hope you'll understand and forgive the upcoming update drought. :c.
Hugs and kisses,
4G

Aw! Tis understood though.
Will this include Sellout shop sales? It might impact some decisions on hoarding AP!

Steam release hype!
Can we possibly get a Basic Loot Filter toggle outside of Settings? I toggle it quite a bit and it's even less convenient now that the Settings button is as far away as possible.

Sucks we might not see an update till April. But great update nonetheless. You addressed quite a few things that's long/shortly been wanted. And I feel this update gives proper content and doesn't just feel like fluff like a few before.

Resource 3 is coming along nicely! I'd expect to see it within... a couple weeks? I'm really bad at time estimates.

Can we have a comparison box next to equipment when hovering over it in the inventory? A comparison of stats between the inventory item and currently equipped item, higher numbers (+ caps) in green, lower in red?

The next update in the works is 3 new adventure zones and a new titan, complete with new gear as you'd expect. There will also be some tweaks and additions to quirks! I'm guessing it'l be another couple weeks before it's done?
|
|
|
metadata
I hope that the new zones and titan will follow the previous time where the stats for the first zone after the titan were a bit under the stats required to start farming the V3 and the next titan's V1 was about the same stats as the V4 of the previous one.
(I had the vague hope to see "and the steam version is nearly finished" but no mention of that probably means it's not for this update either)

nah, i've not taken on Steam yet so soon after Kartridge, need a break for my own sanity.
And yes, the zones progress in a similar way as you mention!
