I think when you reach the Hard cap of energy and magic it doesn't give you any benefits to further increase the cap but i haven't read anything about it and i'm not sure maybe we don't see the increase but there is one?
so my question is, is it useless to increase the cap even more and only a waste of exp has anyone tested it or has 4g sayed something about it?

This might be an interesting read.

There is at least one benefit of increasing your base cap (as well as bonuses outside of the equipment) a bit more even though it doesn't give you any direct benefit.
The reason is that you will need less and less from your equipment to reach that hard cap, giving you a lot more freedom in picking your equipment.
I know that my gold drops and my quest drops loadouts don't reach the hard cap for example ("power" is also way lower so it's not the only thing that impacts progress in various features but it does contribute to it).
But realistically you will probably want to put "cap" to 0 in your custom amounts after reaching the hard cap (and probably "bars" soon enough too and only continue to increase "power").

Power is capped at 1e18 (pots will still work), so it won't be enough.

While you might not be able to cap the entries near the end of the list it is already possible to cap the ones at the start (augment, wandoos, yggdrasil, exp) so maybe in the future when it hungers gets a feature it will make it possible to maybe not completely cap but at least get well under 1 second per level for the last entries.
Also, don't forget about your resource 3, that one is far from the cap thanks to having fewer (and lower) bonuses on top of costing significantly more exp and reaching the hard cap for hacks is not exactly something you need to fear right now.

One player's hard-capped all but 2 hacks, so I'm guessing he'll be done in 3-4 days.

Without cheating?
I know that the people at the very top that didn't cheat have crazy stats but even when you account for power and cap multiplying each others it seems out of reach from where I am.
And hack hack plus consumables do influence things quite a bit as well but if it was done without cheating I kind of want to know just how high his base stats for resource 3 are.

It is possible and a few people choose one feature and focus extremely on it, but it makes no sense to do so.
Keep in mind most of the "top" cheaters are narcisissts and normaly they lie (and most likely they have a own definition for cheating), so I guess we won't find out if it was done without cheating.

Depends if you count massive whaling as "cheating" given that it's definitely outside of normal play. TinyCoyote's spent over $2500 on the game (one of two people on Discord confirmed via roles 4G hands out) so he moves a bit faster than the rest of us. Last I heard, he stopped at 45k/1.5b/15k R3 base stats, which is about double where I'm at. Given that I can't run r3 delta pots constantly and his guffs vastly outclass mine, I'll probably have to go much further than that before I can cap hacks.
