Under rating threshold (show) does acid and affliction work on bosses?

+ - !

(1258)

Developer response from ApprenticeChief

Acid works on bosses, but it's hard to tell, since they have so much life and it doesn't stack. For affliction, bosses are immune to the slow effect, and 50% resistant to the weakening effect.

Under rating threshold (show) I'd like some more information on many of the items. You replied to my last comment that plasma actually has a higher DPS than rockets due to high firing rate. If the actual stats that you can't upgrade are also shown, you can compare better. There's also other stuff. Does poison stack? Affliction? If it doesn't stack, then you're better off having one of each.

Under rating threshold (show) 120% warpcore after beating boss rush with warp core equipped gets you a secret code, and the warp core gives you unlimited focus. To beat boss rush you beat the first 5 enhanced versions of bosses, unlock the last ship, then use it to beat the 6th boss... No idea what the code does...

Under rating threshold (show) For people lacking reflexes (like me), you can make the last badge a fair bit easier by maxing out your kill counts on level 11 by sitting back with homing + weapon of choice. It has a huge number of enemies, and goes by relatively quickly. Doing 10% more damage or so to Atropos never hurts. Also, to reiterate what others have already said, once you kill Atropos you're pretty much finished -- hitting survival 25 is easier than killing Hyperion.

Under rating threshold (show) For Hyperion i used the bullet gun for weapons 1 and 4, both with homing and split mod. Weapons 2 and 4 are rocket guns, both with split; one goes with homing, the other one with acid (make sure to not let any weapon spread except for the acid rocket!). For the main ship I took the armor hull and the compact bomb mod, also the warp core and one shield (everything fully upgraded ofc). Now just make sure to stay at the very bottom in the center of the map (except for those whirl attacks ofc) and avoid as many enemy attacks as possible. Also try to save as many of your bombs and use them for defending from enemy attacks only. Hint for making easy money at this state: Same built, just two collectors for your ship mods instead, now do level 11 which should be very easy and gains you ~130k RP each round.

Under rating threshold (show) I really like this game, it has everything a nice shooter/upgrade/bullet hell game should have. Although I have to say 1. I'm not sure about this, but you should mention how big your hitbox is. Because this IS a bullet hell game, a 1-pixel hitbox is standard. 2. Bosses have too much health comparing to your forever- the-same weapons. Higher grade weapons should do more damage. 3. Plasma's range is too short, hardly usable on bosses. 4. Boss number 5 is a pain. 5. On the same note, since Boss number 5 is barely beatable, I don't find it possible to not get hit at all fighting it. Other than that, awesome game! (I'm a nice person, so I'll just give it a 5/5 anyway :P)

+ - !

(769)

Developer response from ApprenticeChief

1. The hitbox is 0.5 pixels (radius). 2. Bosses are meant to be lengthy. Late game weapons aren't necessarily more powerful than earlier weapons intentionally. I wanted each weapon type to be useful in a different situation. 3. Plasma's a high-risk weapon. If you're skilled enough to get close without getting hit, it's quite effective. 4/5. In my opinion, the 5th boss's attacks are easier to dodge consistently than the 4th's. It's just a matter of knowing the safe spots/maneuvers.

Under rating threshold (show) By the way: + I LOVE that there is a "Start Muted" button - the music is good but I like the option of not having the music so I can keep my own music playing sans interruption - more games should have this feature! - However, I don't like the way the game is sort of divided into 2 parts: grinding helps throughout the first 15-20 levels but then it suddenly becomes all about skill and optimizing the ship's build. I'd rather have either a game where you can constantly upgrade your ship all the way through, or have a game where there is a choice of ship at the start for your preference of play-style but then it's all about skill throughout.

Under rating threshold (show) Bosses are pretty stupid, especially boss rush. I did all 5 regular bosses with perfect (Not getting hit. Atropos took 23 tries to perfect though :/), but bosses are BS because of the insane amounts of hp combined with an average, just endurance patterns generally, at least until the 5th boss. Boss rush takes forever to do, and the warp core part (Need 120%) is even more infuriating. If I even beat Boss Rush, I would have no use for the warp core, as there is little replayability for players to mess around with an OP Warp Core. Anyway know what it does anyway?

Under rating threshold (show) Alright, after WAY TOO MANY tries with the "recommended" setup (focus & lasers) I found a setup that made Atropos REALLY easy: Armor ship, 4xPlasma, 4xSplit, 4xSplash, Antimatter (with either 2x DefLaser or DefLaser+Warp as usual). This weapon setup deals RIDICULOUS amounts of damage and will send Atropo down very very fast: you will reach his final stage with very little trouble. Then, you need to hope that he doesn't go for the flower spam (he moves too fast for this tactic), but if he does anything else, just stick REALLY close to him while firing AM bombs as soon as the previous one expires. He will die before your last bomb even runs out.

Under rating threshold (show) ***Boss Number 5 part 1: *Spinning: just spin around with it. Although when BOTH arms are detached, the orbs will spin around the boss, just stay put in the shootable position and slowly dodge, it's quite easy. *Red whip: remain on the lower left corner. If the blue saber is dispatched, move quickly diagonally to the other side of the screen. *Blue saber ninja swipe: move to the upper right corner then follow the edge of the screen all the way around, back to your normal position. *Fan: the attack where the boss move to the upper corners of the screen and wave its arms releasing bullets: move to the side opposite the boss, stick to the edge of the screen, preferably the midpoint of the edge where the bullets are aligned and you can just slip through it. *There's also an attack that fill the screen with bullet, just dodge, nothing else you can do. Best equip yourself with 2 defensive lasers, helps a lot.

Under rating threshold (show) Finally beat the boss run! a few pointers for other brave players challenging the run (no spoilers) 1. for the weapons, use either of the first three x4 with split & homing. Yes I know the damage loss, but homing is a must for later bosses because you'll be running away a lot and the bosses are really small without the outer armor. 2. use the shield for the ship mod. nuff said. 3. there's really no answer for bombs & hull. I personally chose antimatter so I can rush through the hard patterns and red hull because I liked lots of regen, but I'm pretty sure focus regens faster if you have high max focus, and speed is essential for dodging some boss patterns as well. 4. Missles dissapear when they go off-screen. Stick to the screen edges and those pesky missles won't be bothering you (click and hold LMB to prevent losing focus on screen) 5. Don't give up! In the end, boss rush is really about memorizing patterns and getting used to it. Happy hunting!

Under rating threshold (show) I was so happy to finally beat the level 5 boss and find out what becomes of the warp core, and you tell me I have to beat harder versions of all the bosses consecutively now? At least there should have been a new upgrade or weapon after beating the final boss. No one needs more money at this point, and projectile velocity means next to nothing. Other than this gripe, I enjoyed the game a good deal.

Under rating threshold (show) On level 24, are those big guys considered to be Mini-bosses or Bosses!? Under rating threshold (show) This was a fun and solid game which found that nice balance of challenge just shy of frustration. However the whole 120% warp core thing was just aggravating. The "whoops, no reward yet! Fooled you!" shtick was fun when Mario did it a quarter century ago.....not so much in a bullet-hell shooter. The fact that you only achieve the warp core's reward when it is no longer even useful (read: the absolute completion of the game) doesn't help either. The warp core reward should have been something that the player was capable of achieving through other means, for example with a huge amount of RP. That way for players who are having too much trouble completing the game they have the option of building up to an ultimate upgrade that will help them. In a flash game, once you've beaten the most difficult part and fully completed the game there isn't much incentive to play around with some uber-power upgrade.
