I had to stop playing because the jumping mechanism was so infuriating. You make a game where the character can climb walls, but can't crawl over corners? Yes, eventually you can, but it's too infuriating to try to get there. If there's a sequel, I'll try it, but my hopes aren't high.

This game desperately needs checkpoints cause I am seriously getting sick of spending tonnes of time trying to fight my way through the "easy levels" in order to get where I'm needed. Also the "gravity shell" isn't the easiest skill to control. Overall good game though...

"Wow. If you are going to make a metroid rip-off, at least try to do a good job of it. The controls are sticky, the game lags and skips, you are always landing right on enemies when you fall off a ledge with NO way to see them, and I can find absolutely no way to get anywhere. I have explored everywhere I can, and everywhere that is left has doors that cannot be opened with my peashooter. Please dont disrespect metroid with this crap."
They were not sticky for me, neither laggy, or having skips, I did not suffer so much from falling of ledges into enemies because I tended to go down walls stuck to the walls. The rest of the comment is more you blatantly insulting the game than anything else. I am missing the "constructive criticism" part there.

@Ropalx: The whole point of downrating is to hide the bad comments like trolls, spam, abusive. Constructive criticism like what I put is not supposed to be downrated. Downrating a good comment just because you dont like it is abusing the system

a real gem of a game. kongregate is now filled with some crappy puzzle games, it feels great to play an actually good game for a change

Well, I managed to get to 57% map and 45% items before getting bored, to be honest. I'll come back later to get 100% completion, but for now I'm done.

@flamewolf33
People dont agree with ya :3. When negative comments get downrated is mostly because people don't share your opinion in the matter :P.

When I was playing this I was thinking it was a bit too close to the actual Metroid game...especially the design of the map. Other than that, I like the whole snail story you implemented! =)

Wow, I just noticed that EVERY single comment that gives a negative review of this gets downrated to oblivion, why is that?
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
The map gave me deja vu, but it didn't hit me untill I saw the "door" in the room with the pea shooter, this reminds me of super Metriod on the SNES! Good game, very fun and great music.

after you beat the game..."i can see the future, snaily! i see you having 18,000,000 baby snails!! congradulations!!" well then i would say preety productive, lucky and boy must have so much fun with 18,000,000 super baby snails, if you consider the fact that they would get all his powers. wow im sure the mom would be quite suprised. WAIT OMG HE COULD USE HIS BABIES TO TAKE OVER THE WORLD,... nah maybe just eat all the grass. but still wouldn't you have fun with 18 million baby super snails cause i know i would!!!! :D

You've been working on this for a while, huh? Your avatar has been that snail forever. i always wondered what it was..

This is probably the best retro game I've played on here that reminded me of Metroid, Mega Man, a little bit of Little Nemo: Dream Master even. The replayability of this game is AMAZING and ADDICTING! 3hours of shooting constantly with the Devastator rapid fire weapon, I finally get 100% items, defeated the Moon Snail (and Giga Snail) and found the Shrine of Isis. I hate how the Boss Rush resets back to the first boss when you die, but hey! I keep on playing! Will try to defeat them all tomorrow :P. Thanks for making such a great game @auriplane!

At the risk of getting downrated into oblivion, I have to agree with Socran. The screen scrolling is quite jerky. Not sure what's causing this. Also, while I don't think the controls are "horrendous," they're not the best, either. This is most evident while climbing walls (especially around corners). All of that being said, I actually really like the game. I enjoy these Metroid-style adventure platformers and this one is a pretty good example of the genre.

To all the people who complained about the controls, like bcorno: Really, it gives you the option of arrow keys and wasd, just like most games on Kong... how the heck is that "horrendous controls???" It's very comfortable and relaxing, just like the game itself.

This game is amazing period. The retro music is great combined with its pixel graphics =) Some suggestions for Snailiad 2 (I sure hope you make one) are make achievements or trophies to obtain through out the game. Or have i even like Elephant Quest with the credit map, but add ur own unique twist to it. I'll be looking forward to the sequel =)
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Hmm... You might want to do something to improve the jerky screen. My guess is that you're trying to get the screen to move one "block" at a time, but Flash is automatically moving it to keep up with the snail... Or something.

Excellent game, so fun to play and it brings you back to the nostalgia days, awesome music so catchy and I'm still playing it I STILL CAN't find that other SNELK ROOM haha 10/10

Amazingly this game fails to lose its replay value despite dozens of plays on my part. The totally optional conversations with the snails are amusing and worth backtracking to see what else they'll say. There's tons of secret stuff to discover (including some stuff you *shouldn't* be able to reach, normally.) The music is amazingly fantastic, and combined with the retro graphics and superb play controls totally immerses oneself in a classic platforming/adventure heaven.

This game boasts very responsive controls and intense boss fights! For maximum enjoyment I recommend a gamepad. An excellent game to speedrun.
