I loved the original game and had high hopes for this one, sadly I am greatly disappointed.
To point it out:
Quests - an ok addition.
Skill point based upgrades - I'm not a fan of, but fine, its a different take on game mechanics.
Personnel with additional skills you cannot buy yourself - in itself is a great idea.
Automatic cell replacement moved to personnel skills - this is a problem, need to get the right guy on the job to operate new cell types.
Personnel hes rarity and can be upgraded, and outfitted with grants (item-skills) - starting to get complicated, I don't mind as long as ....
Special items/shards needed to upgrade personnel - this is what i was worried about, fine, we can manage, at least they don't come from....
LOOTBOXES! - that's it. I'm out.
I get it that not every developer creates games here out of pure passion, some hope to get something back for their hard work, and some do it just for money, but lootboxes are never the right answer.

unfortunately quite horrible compared to the first game... no to mention the game breaking bugs... heres some: heat exchangers conducting twice what they are supposed to conduct and heat outlets exploding before ever conducting half of what they are supposed to do because exchangers dont actually take all the heat they can from heat outlets. yes somehow they say the conduct too much but at the same time they dont take enough heat from components that they explode

PLEASE make classic version without quests and stuff, just like old reactor incremental, because this is some bad sandwich of rpg and incremental.

One star. I hate how I have to forcefully complete quests just to reach that moment where the game actually becomes idle and not just me holding down the sell button because I have weak capacitors

Alright, if you're struggling to figure out how to NOT to recreate Chernobyl, maybe give this a read. https://www.kongregate.com/forums/1027096-reactor-redux/topics/1802156-a-comprehensive-guide-for-a-better-reactor

Was up to $40T, reloaded tab and allowed game to load cloud save when it complained about local/cloud mismatch. Game reverted back to $300M. Game is fun but I done with it b/c I have no interest in replaying several days lost progress.

to help with waste heat try using like 4 heatinlets and 12-14 heatoutlets in a closed cycle to get all the waste heat into your heat excangers and vets it helps alot in keeping your reactor cool

I bought the 100 kred science packs and i did not recieve the 20 it said i would recieve nor did i recieve the retro ones for the levels i already had...i got one, one single premium science pack for 100 kreds....

This new game is worse than the first, i upgraded the electricity, then my reactor blew up. i later realized that it also increases the heat >:(. That upgrade screwed me up, i got the plutonium cells then my reactor started heating up. I later realized i cant stop this because its waste heat. So i had to fill the entire freaking reactor with reactor plantings and capacitors. This game is annoying and confusing.

I don't see why everyone says that the "Have # upgraded staff members" type quests are a forced paywall. You can get a free research case every 24 hours from the store page. Could people please vote this comment up until this is common knowledge? I don't want people hating this game.

What's funny about this game: 2/3-slot grants are absolutely USELESS for most of the time you spend in this game. There's a paywall at lv30 that it's not worth passing. there's still bad memory leaks that were an issue with the last game, and... it's been in this state for a MONTH now. Developer, get your damn act together or you're not getting ANYTHING from this game.

There needs to be a way to get resources and staff members other than these ridiculous quests. This game became p2w...

the game was great until lvl 31. once you hit lvl 30 you have a quest to compleate that would grant you lvl 31. but you cant compleate that quest until you get the unlock that i suspect comes from lvl 31. sure i could get to this level by waiting it out by selling power, thats only going to be 3 more of the sell energies. ... but the first one will take me 100 days to compleate, the second, 1000, and the third 10,000 days. so in total i will not get the next reactor plating enabling me to continue the game for 30 years. granted i could pay money to fix that... but thats only a random chance that i will get 10 more people that can be upgraded. yes, 10 not 6, after the 6 there is an 10, and you also have to make 10 grants. but dont wory, this will only get you 1/2 way to lvl 31. good news, now its only 3 years not 30 years, what a relief that is

Stuck with it for a while. Seems doable without paying. Biggest thing to get started is to get as many capacitors as possible. This is all that matters. Build 3 or 4 simple reactors that are as small as you can make them to save space. You'll need a few outlets around vents because wasteheat quickly becomes an issue. Then just afk for around 2 to 3 hours. Around 1 hour is the minimum but having a bank is preferable imo. You need to get the perpetual Uranium (and later Plutonium staff) so just reset if the game trolls you. After that you need to burn 30 Plutonium cells so just set up a few 2 cell Plutonium reactors to get it and you'll unlock the advanced reactors either here or at the next quest. You'll also get the capacitor upgrade which makes manually selling actually work so active play is now viable. Just grind until you have enough t2 capacitors to sell everything and congratulations! You can finally play the game like how the first game let you play from the getgo.

The game should be beatable without paying, but you'll have to ascend (relocate to new factory) to get more free boxes. Others mention upgrading 6 staff. Basically compared to the first, this just has annoying quest treadmill gate and ascension is mostly to get free boxes. It has cool heat mechanics added in and I honestly wish they had just updated the first game with these mechanical changes instead. There are some interesting staff abilities, but for the most part these are pointless with clever reactor design. If you get lucky you might be able to get certain staff combos that let you build unique reactor designs, but theres so much luck involved with staff that it may as well not be in the game. Practically, staff only exist to gate perpetual upgrades to their box system/ pay store. The pay store is basically pay to ascend, which is both pointless (I mean I play idles to idle) and implemented in such a way that at first glance it looks like forced pay to win.

Takes way too long to get power selling upgrades. I have been sitting at max power capacity unable to sell, with my reactor chalked full of basic capacitors for over an hour. It doesn't take to long to hit your cap and capacitors only sell 2. I'm making thousands of power and can only sell it 2 by 2. Please unlock advanced capacitors earlier like in the first game!

The wall comes too hard, and too soon. People aren't going to pay for what a game 'could be' -- especially when it's missing so much of what made the previous installment so strong.
I'll be watching closely for the update, though. rebalance and re-release, and when the game is ready, I'll throw in my 20 bucks.

first one was awesome!
But this? Earning a lot in game, but I have to Do quest in order to upgrade capacitors? No, thank you. Staff thing was not understandable. Dev made game difficult to have fun, to feel achievement.
He could just added some 12,24 hour income feature, Gems or something. Or boot production 2x for an hour, a lot of different ways to earn money. but NOT Loot Boxes, it is IDLE game, INCREMENTAL!...
PS: Carl... what have you done...
PSS: 1 star from me. played 2 hours.

Loved the first one. Not a fan of this one. Why 'fix' what wasn't broken? Just take the first one and toss in the quests and it would have been amazing.

the ability to not sell all power at once is makes the game painfully slow for what reason? also the quest/experience system to upgrade things why change what worked fine? I played the original quite heavily I got 19th on the leader board years ago

Reactor doesn't do anything when you're in another tab. It keeps mentioning "level" I don't see an xp gauge or level indicator anywhere. Super frustrating.

-.- spending 2 hours to build a reactor that survives 450 ticks with same amount of vents exchangers outlets plates and coolant cells and 18 dolorium cells just to realise that i can only use 18 of each witch makes this quest impossible for me
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
The Balance Quest discription is a bit misleading-.-
it tells that u need 18 dolorium cells and an equal nomber of vents, exchangers outlets plates and coolant cells
i d understand that that only these 5 parts have the be the same amount not that they have to be the same amount as the dolorium cells witch sadly is required...

I wish there was a layer view where you could see to what threshold an item was performing.
Lets say you have a mid game reactor, you have only so many upgrade points, you have reflectors and cooling and heat pumps and exchangers, you look at those upgrade points and realize that if you upgrade your reflectors, or maybe the potency of your fuel, your surrounding vents or exchangers might go kaplow!
Layer Idea:
->Capacity layer (Colour gradient of red, or Red to Green, based on REMAINING capacity (=Current use / capacity) of any vent, exchanger, outlet, inlet.
->Waste heat (Graduation of red, where the item producing the most waste heat becomes the 100%)

I've been playing the game for a few weeks now, here's my review:
Pros:
*I like the quests - small objectives help break up the monotony while grinding for more equipment.
*Using staff allows for more flexible builds. Random staff allow for more unique experience.
Cons:
*"Waste heat" proves to be more annoying than interesting as a mechanic.
*Respec seems like a punishment, rather than an incentive to try again with a different build.
*Having quests depended upon random rewards, which are only given by completing quests (e.g. upgrade 6 staff), which are sometimes impossible/infeasible to complete.
*The game still leaks more memory than a bullet to the head.

As much as i like reactor games the paywall made me sad. at lvl 22 i need now either 3 more Terrawatt quests which may require days to weeks 24/7 or i have to generate 4 times my actualy power per seconds from reflectors only for 200 ticks... Alternatively i require 6 upgraded staff members but this is impossible with teh quest rewards up to this stage

Why are the fans worse in this game that what they were in the original?
They leak heat in this like crazy, but in the original i could just keep the heat to 0 with just them.
