Guys, to build the pyramid you'll need both the megastructure tech and 500k production points. If you forgot about either one, well, good luck...

Trevorocalypse, I'm not sure where you went wrong, but I just followed it myself almost exactly and I got pretty good results on Settler difficulty. I'm going to follow it again for the Chief and Diety difficulties and we'll see how it goes. Though I don't see how since they don't seem to influence the gameplay that much if you follow zzxxzz3's walkthrough, perhaps you are being hampered by some of the in-game events?

I've followed the zzxxzz3 strategy twice as best as I can and still come nowhere close to the numbers they predict...any idea where I go wrong?

My run through was awesome! Five turns left and I got hit with -20% production era. I needed 500k more production points and my production was dropped to 75k/turn, so I bit the bullet, pull ALL my people into production, and survived 4 rounds of 100% danger rate to win! :D

This is to the devolper:
You should be able to have a map and outposts that give you food and stuff
They should call it the iron age

i suggest adding a technology:cannibalism so that when you successfully kill the enemy you eat them.and another tech:funeral so that if your men die you get partial compensation in culture

... the sandbox got to a point where it required more than my maximum population to protect myself... I had nearly 100k people and a total strength of around 10M... I think this game gets a little broken after you win.

1.5 Million men fighting with a 3.2 THOUSAND percent bonus yet the threat level is still 10%. After 150 turns this game really ramps up in difficulty

So, the enemy army is strong, their leader stupid. Now, I'm standing here like, why do you follow him? I go to war and win, losing about 30% of my population. I guess Napoleon learned about this battle and came up with his quote about fearing an army of sheep being led by a lion.

Now that hard is even harder, victory depends still a lot on random event. Normal difficulty is well balanced though. Nice game overall, even if the music is getting on my nerve after playing a while :D

"We've established a new trade rout with a civilization. " The military influence of the trading zone is very visible

Tip: There is 100% no danger until after turn 9. Go ahead and put 0 in guards even when it says 50+% danger on turn 9, you will never be attacked until at least turn 10.

Finally found a good balance, won on turn 115 on Deity, score: 7183.
Early: breeding > cattle > mysticism > cattle 2 > mysticism 2. Invest 4 points in cattle and 1 in everything else in first age. (Delay Cultivation until you need to tech to Trade.)
Mid: 3 points in Vet medicine, 1 polytheism, then 1 in everything except Boat & Irrigation. (should have ~3 points stocked up at end of age, depending on when you built Temple.) The Trick for the midgame is to stop stone production when trying to cause a population boom, moving as many to cattle and farming as possible. (~10-15% is safe, ~20% for risky population booms.)
Late: Take a few points in animal selection, 1 in monotheism, then work all the ones branched off of "Trading" and all the ones to increase strength when needed. By turn ~100 you should shift all attention to stone production. A good end would have ~6 points in Bronze Weapons, 3 in City Planning, 3 in Bronze Working, and 4 in Animal Selection.
[Survived until Turn 272]

The only problem with this game, and this may just be a thing that can't be written around, but once you reach a certain point in population growth, you start be unable to defend yourself. Once reaching a high enough point, no amount of Strength or over-whelming population will save you from sooner or later being slain by enemies that become stronger then you could really hope to be.

Focusing strictly on animal breeding (which snowballs culture and production growth eventually), saving up points before transitioning to a new age (because points spent there are better) and not having risk too low (I prefer ~20-30%), are the easiest guidelines to follow, to get very long. You can even continue so long that you eventually break the game (above 2.1billion population) or is just practically invincible.
