Reduce lethality and visibility ASAP by selling off symptoms in the left menu, then boost infectivity by buying everything in the center menu except 'human only'. Then bank your points until you have at least one infected in each area. Then crank up the symptoms to boost lethality, which will raise infectivity and visibility as well. Countries will start to react now, but it should be too late.

This game seems pretty easy, I didn't play the second one much, however. The secret is to try your best at the beginning of the game to keep both lethality and visibility as low as you can, eventually to 0, and gain a decent infectivity (and do it before public transport is off, un;ess you start in Western Europe). Then just wait until all countries (or, if you've got enough days left, everybody) are infected (the points will accumulate even though no-one's dying). Then WHAM! pump up your lethality and around 100,000 people die in a single day. Then the game is essentially won.

Virus shows up, claims roughly a thousand lives in a month, then vanishes. Five months later, that same virus that managed to infect the entire world undetected undergoes rapid mutation over night, wiping out the world.
Kinda like how large scale computer viruses spread.

Now, on top of that, the music is effective and mysterious, but I believe that it has a lot of stupid 'GO' clicking and a simple strategy. It's still fun though, and very murderous and blood-warming.

Beat on second try with 85 days left, or 115 days spent. First attempt I got rid of all the symptoms and had zero infectiousness so I couldn't infect anyone to get any more points, and didn't have enough points to buy back coughing/sneezing.
