@flackstar007 ふ can be both hu and fu its the same character, just like how you can pronounce ら like la or ra its still the same thing, like how we sometimes say (aye) instead of (ahh) for the letter A, you can type hu or fu either way it will come up with ふ

its nice but one of the hiragana is incorrect the one it says is hu is in fact fu the easy way to remember this is to think of mt Fuji when looking at it. as it even looks like a repersentation of a mountain. the following table of hiragana should help http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hiragana

There were 2 'Ji' as answer choices, I chose one it said incorrect then I chose the other one and it said correct >:(

This is fantastic. To draw more people, have you considered making game options. Like, falling kana with the options on the bottom that you can click on. With each level getting faster. Then add some badges and achievements. Then you may get some more attention to this a a game.

I'm learning Japanese myself, and I already know Kana, but I have to say that this is a perfect game for learning it. Good job!

So fun to learn this 5/5 :) always wanted to learn japanese but couldent find a place to start :P plz learn us some words to!! it would be fun :D

equalvision, in case you didn't realize, this is a flash game. Of Course a tutor is 1 million times better! I mean, you PAY a tutor.
I think this is awesome. I have been interested in learning japanese for a time (I have no idea what for, it just seems interesting xD) but where I live there aren't the necessary tools, or tutors are way too expensive.
Squeoo's idea is awesome btw! :D

This game is more like, um... Learn parts of useless Japanese that you will never be able to relate anything to in a 1000 years (unless you know Japanese, but then what's the point?) Sorry to say man, but this is very ineffective. Might as well as get a tutor, or use something like Rosetta Stone or whatever; either of those would be a MILLION times more effective. At least it well put together with alright interface. Just for the effort, I'll give you 2/5.

Officially, 'hu' is correct; see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Romanization_of_Japanese
-
Although, since this uses the Hepburn system for everything else, it really should use 'fu'.
-
'Wo' is only 'o' when used as a particle; when used as part of a word 'wo' is correct.

i guess it teaches people how to pronounce the character, but whats the point if they don't know what it means
try a kanji game have them guess what it means maybe a matching game with kanji and pictures
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
It's neat, but for someone who doesn't know Japanese, it's just guessing until they find one that's right, and trying to remember that.. So not so much "Learn Japanese" as "Hiragana Quiz" or something, maybe?
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Pretty cool. Disagree with your "hu" and "wo" choices, but I understand why the latter had to be done, at least. And, like I said, it's personal choices, right? Anyway, listen to what MordredofFairy said. Making it into a game would be cool. Have sentences and such.

how about not only making a quiz, but actually a little game :) even just a short text adventure using katakana's for simple words and the additional switch between romanji and english? :) would really like that...
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Thank you for your constructive comments! Karasu, I agree that writing our romanji is faster, but for reading it doesn't help. >_< Staticuniverse, badges would indeed be nice. Casimodo, I think I'll leave the chinese version to someone else. :o) Sqamble777, as far as I know 'wo' is pronounced as 'o' and romanized both ways to mark the difference between the two 'o's. The 'h' in 'hu' (or 'fu') is a gentle one.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Nice, very helpful.
1 thing thats bugging me though is the way i was taught was your "wo" is just "o" and your "hu" is a "fu"
That's just what i was taught/told so now im sort of confused as to which is right lol
eitherway, i like it :) 5/5 from me

Why bother and waste time on something like this, when there is a 10 times better java application for mobile phones KanaQ - http://languagebug.com/kana_q/index.htm
Even some Kanji learning software available there.
So its 2/5 for the bad looks of the "game".

This is definitely a useful tutorial for those who are starting out. It would be great if you set one of these flash games up using kanji as well. I definitely think beginners should use this as a fun little tool.

Zyjil, thank you! Kivs, if it is too overwhelming at first, select 'vowels' instead of 'basic set', select '3 choices' instead of '5 choices', or use the 'cheating' method as Waterstorm described. Such cheating is allowed if it helps your learning process. :o)
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Very nice. Unfortunately, I don't know any Japanese, so I really couldn't do much. Maybe for your next project you can do something for people starting from scratch?
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Good work, Dawn! It is simple yet customisable enough to cater for different learner's needs :D Good clear presentation too!

Rubberband, thanks for the feedback. Those are good ideas, I may do something along those lines when I have the time for a bigger project.
Smirker, that's why it's in the tutorial section. :o)

Great learning tool. Would it also be possible for you to add the pronunciation of the Hiragana and Katakana, You might want to think about adding some basic Kanji, like Mum, Dad, Numbers to 10 and so on.
