@Naud1234: Went to a computer tech/parts convention with my dad in the late 80s; I remember seeing a guy selling a standard keyboard with one extra key, in the upper left, labeled "ANY". He explained it simply sent a keyboard interrupt to the PC to register a keystroke for those people who get tripped up by the "Press Any Key" message. Brilliant!

frustrating to hell. there is one setup you can do on every map or else... well, you ain't getting shit done.
that's not fun, especially with the audio loop that is annoying when it's been over 10mins. stars are annoying to get for that reason, do it the right way or try and try for 30mins to put 2 pups to multiply to 3.. then 4.. then5, so FUN ! .. not

Actually, on the screen with the yellow cat who complain about missing Laika, is it even possible to get the star once you teleported back and walked back in?

it's really tricky to get the star in room 5,5. I need 5 live cats, but I can only get 4. can't figure out how to have 3 flags be active when I die. I've had 3 active flags, but any move I make from that arrangement reduces the number of active flags. I only have that star left and 1 kitty left, which it looks like I need that star to access.

Big negative for the stars requiring something that isn't actually explained anywhere - namely that you have to purposely die and end up with extra cats.

HI! what did you use to make this amazing soundtrack? It seems to be some of the same instruments used in cruelty squad. Thanks if you can help :)
I primarily used the dog bark sample from Garage Band for iOS (IDK if modern versions still have it, it's been so long,) and an 808 drumkit that was heavily distorted via "bit crushing" (more technically, I think it was sample rate reduction, and maybe some other distortion technique?) There's also a synth part that's used towards the end, I don't remember what that part was, but I do know it's also something you can find in Garage Band for iOS circa 2018-2019 ish.

I am pretty sure the graphics are bad on purpose just to make the game more weird 99/100, there should be a final boss of a mafia dog, or idk cuz I have'nt finished the game yet.
The graphics weren't "bad on purpose," but I did make them on the simpler side because I knew I wasn't very skilled at art back then. There's no "final boss" in this game, but there will be a climatic finish to N Step Steve: part 2 (which should be releasing later this year, should everything go to plan.)

thx for very nice game with original concept. i finished many times "5 Step Steve" and "N Step Steve:Part1" at itch.io. i have been waiting for the next part for a very long time and very much. when can we expect "N Step Steve:Part2"?

Thank you EPG games for having (some of) the last playable games with badges I haven't gotten yet! Once I finished them, I am not sure if there is much left to do here. Until then, I appreciate another few days I can while away on Kongregate.

... Why exactly five steps? I mean he has 4 legs. Why not 4? And why does he even have limited steps at all? So many questions for this cat.

This is the first game I have ever seen where the ending for full completion is more depressing than the ending for partial completion.

This was really run at first, but by the time I hit room 5,5 it was only stressful and boring even with a Walkthrough to try and help solve the puzzle.

Some of the mechanics in this game need a tutorial so people don't have to look at the walk-through in order to figure out what to do... the means by which you multiply your character had me stumped for quite some time.

there are some rock pushing mechanics that are so arcane to me I have stumbled upon solutions to levels just by knowing what the solution MUST be without understanding how it happened

my biggest issue with this game is that I'll have two new ideas introduced to me on a single screen (you can step on red tiles and stay alive if a boulder hits you and boulders can push you into flags even if they can't interact with flags were both introd on the same screen to me) and then I forget it and have to relearn for later puzzles. maybe the game is too dense. maybe I am
