I guess the guy keeps his freezer locked in case well-mentioned-but-misguided detectives come in trying to steal his hammer...but then he also writes the code on the wall in invisible ink in case said-detective needs to drop a sandbag-tied-with-rope-to-a-wall onto farmers murdering...tomatoes.

Next time you make a puzzle like the box one, writing a simple "# around" will do.
I know we can always check the walkthrough. But the point of puzzle games like these are to solve them yourself having only small hints. Resorting to a walkthrough because a simple hint is missing is kinda overkill.

To my understanding, the star puzzle is basically a reverse minesweeper with the number of stars. The number for each die is the number of stars directly adjacent the die (including diagonal).
