doesn't help when just before the last two shipments are due all your buying prices become 70-90 and the sell price is hovering at 40, only won because both buying prices plummeted to 20 after and won the game with 6% percent British approval.

A few tips:
1. Piss off the British - My first few play throughs I assumed I had to get enough tea to fill the order on time, but you can actually gain a lot of time (aka money) by not filling an order when they ask for it
1.1 - This doesn't mean not buy tea until the end, buy it when its low but stop 5 chests short
2 Milk the top left port wisely - The top left port gives out a lot of nice deals, but half way through only take deals for high amounts of opium (25+), then closer to the end only take 40+ deals.
2.1 - when you only have one ship in the beginning take orders with 5 or more chests
3 Buy safely - If you buy too much opium or tea the price will shoot up to 90, so count to 5 at the end of each deal before buying 30 again.
3.1 - buying in bursts of 3-4 times in a row is ok
4 buy low - Buy as many low priced chestss as you can
Good luck!

Needs a Restart or Return to Menu. But a good take on Tradewinds. The highest prices though always seem to come from the risky ports. No risk no gain I guess.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
great start, but why not make it better? add ship upgrades, trade different materials, battle pirates, whatever. it just lacks another dimension.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
It's fun and addictive, but trades need to spawn more, and more randomly, even if they're terrible. I was sitting on 300+ opium and just waiting for a trade, while opium and tea prices were below 20, and Britain's mood just ticked down to zero after maybe a solid three seconds of nothing at all. I think only three ports ever offered me a trade that game, and all of them were constantly risky because of it.

Very poor as a trading simulation, for the many reasons people have already posted. If this didn't have a historical setting with social commentary, I think more people would realize this is a pretty shallow game.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Meh. It's a bit one-dimensional. The only actions are buy tea, buy opium, sell opium. I like my trading simulators to have a bit more complexity

Really frustrating that it takes so long to buy tea. In the later stages of the game you pretty much have to just mash the But 30 tea button over and over again without being able to wait for a good price.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
the key to the final level is to keep an eye on the price of tea. whenever it drops to a good price, buy buy buy. at the end you should have enough.

I give it 4/5 overall. Great concept, and the game is addicting. I keep coming back to play, so that's something.
I think the 30 at a time thing adds to the strategy, but it's not that obvious the first time through.
And no bugs, that's always a plus. :)

Remember guys, you're not doing this for yourself, you're doing this as a man hired by a drug addicted government. The last year is extremely difficult. Buying only 30 at a time works towards the entire game, lending to itself a frantic nature that I didn't expect or figure out until 3 or 4 games in.
To win you really just have to continually buy, buy, buy. If prices are lower than 50 buy 5 at a time of whichever product you need more of. When prices are less than 20 buy as much as possible of whichever you need more. The point is to constantly be buying something if possible.

This is Kongregate's fault but I was wondering how come the highscores take forever to load in order for me to view them.

Thats hard to keep up with Britains Thirst for Tea, Especially knowing that they are not going to pay me for all my hard work
But after 4 tries I finally beat it with 70,640,397
And: A wealthy retirement awaits you
I could have retired with more money if I just stopped trading with Britan

later in the game, I couldn't buy tea fast enough. I had the money, but only buying 30 at a time wasn't quick enough. Why was I selling my tea to the British for free anyways?
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
the last year is completaly impossible! How the hell i will buy 660 barrels of tea if the tea is 80+ the barrel? I had 20k and i could raise only 450 barrels... but cool game otherwise.

like others I find the 30 at a time really annoying as you get more ships and need to meet ever increasing tea orders. Fix that and this a 4/5 for me but as it is 2/5 The final order is hard simply because it takes for ever (22 of the 30 chest tea order) and this inability to buy when you want makes the price issue almost unimportant since you need to keep pressing 30 no matter what the price is just to get enough in time. Poor.

i finished it 104,994,704 score. i bought like 600 tea at the beginning for only 9 coin and i had good money merching quietly, buying a lot of opium for 20 and selling 99...it was easy because i failed 2 times at the beginning =) good game 5/5 . but i really hated those guys that take my boats =s i lost 2 times because of them :1st time i gave them money ...and i ran out of money.. 2nd time i gave them the boat and lost my merching... well i prefer killing them with troups that i buy instead of buying upium , and to conquer the cities =) 5/5

It's a good idea, reminded me of TF2...
I wish there was more flexibility to when you could get the tea, as i would rather stock up on opium and money, then buy all the tea when it's low. (but the game makes plenty of sense right now)
Great game, except for the fact that i hate getting tea, since it gives me almost no benefit. (I only need like 3 boats total...)

I have done a good job!

i only played this game because minecraft servers were down, im glad i played it though. 4/5 1 point off from 5 because i needed to buy like 500 at once, the opium prices were down 2$ a chest, i wouldn't have lost if it wasnt for the freaking 30 limit!
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
If it's only for profit... I would quit midway. Why is it that I lost more money buying tea then gaining money selling opium?
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Man, those last couple of years were rough - prices were insasne, but mostly I even tho I started spam-clicking the 'buy 30 tea' button as soon as the clipper left I only *barely* bought enough tea to satisfy the final order of 660. I have no idea what I paid for it, but I had loads of cash from massive stock-up efforts when the price of opium crashed. I was losing ships left and right and didn't care. Finally tally: A wealthy retirement awaits you! 63,178,065 score, 2,760 tea = 552 billion cups, 2289 opium = 229 million users.
I understand the market limits on opium, but I should be able to buy tea by the 100s at *least*.

Is it just me or is having more than 3 ships basically useless. There's never enough good deals to make use of any more ships than that.
