The game is severely lacking for a couple of reasons. The system only rewards the opium trade. We must some profit selling tea to England (like the real traders actually did). Money leaves the system and doesn't come back. Throw on top of that that some douche takes half my opium with promise of later payment that never comes. The system is stacked against us. The prices and the sales of both items seem to be independent of one another. When the price of opium for me to buy goes up, offered gold drops. They should correlate with a lag. Also, the pricing structure is jacked because the combined prices of the opium and tea are more than max price in the game (99). I buy opium at 30 and tea at 35, suddenly that price of 70 isn't so hot. I got only 62m playing with sound rules, e.g., buy <= 35, sell >= 80, which means that people who made it in the first try were incredibly lucky to have timed all the moving parts well. & How do I get to 80m? Cups of tea? Profits? 5/10

damn, that last order is impossible! 570 crates of tea in like 5 weeks? damn britains, you know theres other things to drink, right? like water maybe?

Here's something to help you look at prices:
1-30= CHEAP (Buy, buy, buy carefully!)
31-50= Normal (Feel free to buy if you have the money)
51-60= Average (Lil bit high but accesable if you're desperate)
61-90= HIGH (Don't buy, it's not worth it)

phew i found it really hard to complete the game and get the hard badge, i always got unlucky. But when i finally did complete it, makes you feel great ^_^ i thought 80mil was impossible but i guess it isnt hehe ^_^ im happy
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
It's a little too hard, honestly. The market prices will spike at random from 30 to 90, or some plays will just sit at 60-70 for half the game at which point I can't sell any opium Unless it's at a risky port and then I lose my ships, or I can't buy any tea without going bankrupt. On rare occasion the random events are broken, It'll say "tea prices spike" and they will drop to 20, or that "Opium prices are dropping" and they might spike to 80. And there are times it feels like a port remains risky for far too long.

That's what makes it challenging, the fact you have to buy when you can as much as you can, if they made it one button to get all you can, well you'd have such an excess how could you lose?
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
-1 for making buying process too slow, another -1 for the queen wanting more tea than you can buy in a round. and an F-U on difficulty

Such a shame its real time, i have no time to sit down and consider what or where i want to buy or sell my stocks, and being new to the game this just makes me go somewhere else cause i dont have time to sit and enjoy finding out how the game works.
In short, from the start i didnt even want to play them game because of poor instructions and timed time to figure out the game.

My biggest complain = HUGE stretches of time with nowhere to sell. I either have tons of risky ports or there's simply nowhere buying opium. Also, why do I make zero dollars on selling tea?

It's rare that I'll keep playing a game after I've earned all the badges for it, but I've done so this time. Pretty awesome.

So, Im about to beat the game, easily buying my last tirty crates of tea, but then one of the boxes comes up saying a ship got busted. Wtf do I care Im about to win, not, buying the crates restarts, another box shows up and it restarts again. Then happiness goes down to 1%and I lose. Cool

Yes! Loaded my final 30 when the mood was at 1%.
The game was a lot of fun, and as somebody who studied the Opium wars I liked the historical tie-ins. I'd add the option to instantly sell off a ship, as in my earlier games when I didn't quite know what I was doing as well I'd find myself in a bit of a capital crunch only to be able to do absolutely nothing until the "it seems you're low on silver" window shows up.

Fun game, with a lot of keep track of quickly. Two things to change in the future: When my silver was low, I had the option to either wait it out or sell a ship. Waiting it out was a terrible, terrible idea, but I had to wait until they asked me again before I could sell a ship. It would be nice if I could sell my own ships at any time, without waiting for a prompt. ------ Also, the pause menu should have a "quit to main menu" button, so I don't have to refresh the page or wait till I lose to start again. 4/5 overall, good game!

5 star game easy, but some money from the tea would be nice, like if u have the tea waiting for the british clipper, we should get a bonus, and some kind of reward besides a boat when the tea arrives
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
this is a bit buggy.
I've got no boats, no money,no orders left (had 3 final orders up to 870 chests of tea...) "boatloads" of tea and opium, and the game won't finish

Great fun; a lovely, increasingly frantic simplicity; and great use of historical setting. It seemed to work rather too well, though, to bulk buy opium during low pressure times at the start, then sell and frantically buy up tea at the end. Would be nice to have some ability to profit from tea. I'd love to see a fuller sequel with multiple levels, upgrade paths, etc, while retaining the same core click-tastic simplicity...

Fun game, though I hit a bug of sorts where there would only be deals on the lower 3 ports. This made it much harder to spread the deals around to lower the risk. Fortunately it's a fast game anyway so not as big of a deal...assuming a reload fixes the issue.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
wow, this is the absolute truth exept for when the buisness shut down cause it could be between 9 years.
not the best history lesson...
8/10--great game
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
For me, this game is information overload. At all times I have to track the current price of tea, the current price of opium (and the direction the prices are headed), my supply of opium, my supply of tea, any jobs that are open, how many ships I have available... phew, I'm done.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
This is a pretty good game. It can be harsh, but that's business. I think a business course could usefully incorporate this course. Hint: you don't need to keep a lot of liquid cash on hand.
Reply to HVFreak in the top comments: Your sources for opium in India cannot meet your demand of 500 opium in the same way you cannot (usually) satisfy an order of 500 opium to China.

So... after playing this game about 10 times, and not winning at all, I just bought tea and opium like crazy and took any deal that gave me more than $30 a crate and somehow ended up with a score of 81 million. Without winning. Still haven't won even once!

I think I've got an idea on what to do for the Hard badge. The following worked for me: 1) DO NOT be picky when it comes to selling opium, except early on when you only have one or even two ships. Generally speaking, if you can make a profit with a trade, do it, especially since by endgame, you'll have more ships than you need, unless you lose a few in dodgy trading. 2) If you lose the bribe around 1836 or 1837, you've done something wrong; you shouldn't have the bribe at that point in the first place. Take advantage of a (usually) great trade you could make in a risky port. 3) Try not to buy one commodity five times in quick succession, especially after the price for that commodity nose dives. You can make 4 deals for one, then one for the other, then go back. Also, slowing down once in a while will maintain that low price for a while. 4) There seems to be a cap in how high tea and opium prices get early on. Take advantage of that, especially regarding tea. Good luck!

It would be a great game if the market wasn't completely luck based. I've played through 5 times now and each time the market has reacted completely differently.

Badges not working. Beat it four times in a row with over 100 million points and I haven't even gotten the easy badge. :/

Theres a couple glitches in this game, such as when i buy opium it doesnt add any but takes my money, same with the tea, Also whenever i sell opium i sometimes dont get any money or lose my opium, great game though
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
this is a great tycoon game. The only problem is that you are basicly giving your tea away to England like it is a forced trade, while in real-life, England would pay for it. This almost gurantees that you will lose near the end of the game. over all, 4/5
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
It's not a bad game, but it could use some work. Profits from sending over tea would be nice (and much more realistic).
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Oh yeah the 2nd achievements should be _easy_ instead of medium. You always ship over 1000, going below that is impossible unless you're a retarded monkey.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
My problem with this game is that not all the markets seem to be in play. I had one game where it was only two markets the entire game, and I pretty much lose since I could't get the 510 tea...
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Rigged game 1 star, 1# attempt; if you try to buy up some stock and anticipate shipments prices stay at 70-90 tea and its impossible to get enough for the 510 and 570 crate shipment. 2# attempt; If you buy evenly with slight income you are doomed at 70-90 prices of tea and wont make it. to the 510/570 shipment. 3#attempt; If you always are behind on shipments and wait everything out you might win the game but then the top score is 40-50m. The first two nets you about 1500 crates sold and sent almost as much. Such a f***** BS game.
