yeah, that sucks when someone walks out on you! It gives me the blues! Like my woman done up and left! I got the tactical blues! Fix that gamebrew. If you got up and walked away from a chess grandmaster it would be scored as a resignation and your rating would drop. I got the blues!

Gamebrew: I'd like to start a feature on "COCAK":http://www.cocak.blogspot.com that showcases a game of the month, I've chosen Tactics to start it off, and I was wondering if you would be able to provide a interview based on the development of the game, from concept to creation.

BzAli: The pieces may not be equal. But everyone gets the same 100 points to spend so it is equal. If you lost, the only factors are the choices you made: the units, their positions, their upgrades and the moves you made on the board. So again, if you find yourself losing, redesign your team and strategy.

For people leaving early there is no way to force someone to play a game they think will lose even with point penalties. If you suddenly realized you were playing a chess master and you knew the game would take an hour wouldn't you quit? I give people one full turn to quit without penalty to give them a chance. And as expert players get a higher score the auto-match will get them with other experts who will be more confident and not leave so easily.

This game is not chess.....
The idea is not to have an equal army and have your own special team.
There is a penalty for leaving but the creater can't do anything about it if someone wants to go....

I take back my early 4, and downgrade it to a 1. A game where the sides doesn't have equal pieces, and where you can't even see what powers your opponents pieces have is nowhere near chess. In addition, a game where your opponent can cheat you of victory by leaving when you have a tactical advantage, but before you start taking pieces is crap.

In the live game... there needs to be some kind of real punishment for people who quit early... out of a dozen games, Only 3 people have played through. Maybe if someone ditches out, you could take away say 10 tatics points each time making them have to rework thier characters... 3/4 of the people quitting halfway through is really frustrating when trying to enjoy a great game like this!

iBrow: you could get some archers with upgraded distance against that. But then he can have two healers that can heal eachother faster than you can shoot them with a shitty archer on the other side.. but maybe the points of two healers taken away from the wizards weakens them enough so you can charge!

My one problem with this game is that there's no punishment for being defensive... in multiplayer, if your opponent sets up their army as just a bunch of wizards or something and then camps the back row, there's no way to win.
There should be some kind of punishment or way to force each player to attack.
Also, this same trick works against the computer, because it will always charge forward, so you can just wait for him.

For mrmoocky's post. If you want to save your current Kongregate record, that is the wrong place. Its in folder [chat.kongregate.com /game_files/0000/2738/tactics100.swf] tho if you play on gamebrew you can copy that over. See that number "2738" that changes everytime I update that's why everyone's save get's cleared.

The originality thing is always coming up. Like I said in a previous post I took ideas from Tactics Arena and Tactics Ogre the only two tactics game I've played. Also my own ideas. Arena had so many units that did kinda the same thing, also I wasn't sure when my turn was coming, and if you just started playing everyone has an advantage over you. But that game is great and yes the graphics are cool. Saturday I'll upload a new version, I fixed a whole bunch of bugs, especially the sudden unit disappearing bug, and you'll be able to rematch people. Thanks!

Every game is a rip off of another. It just comes in a different package. There are no original games anymore. All it is now a days is taking an idea and changing it up a little. Technically every tower defense game is a rip off of the original just with different weapons but nobody cares.

Scott: My problem is others giving him credit for originallity, when this game is a rip off of tacticsarena. It might lack the other races and such, but the basic units are a straight rip from that game.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Gah! I keep getting to the third level, one of the enemys units vanishes and doesnt reappear. It just hangs on the last unit to go.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Not a bad game, but what's funny are the people whining that it's not original. Like Tactics Arena is original? This is a pretty good version, MUCH simpler than most of the others, and therefore more accessible to a wider base of players. Get over it already.

This is a rip off a game I played about 3 years ago on the net. Almost piece for piece! I am trying to track down the name of it, and the author, cause this is ridiculous.

Game froze in multiplayer when the other player saw my knights go invisible and targeted them.
We called it a draw and he left.

I found one bug in singel player mode when i played it for the first time... When the game was nearly finished the whole game stopped when an enemy archer was about to attack.

*great* game.
i did just hit a glitch in arcade, though. not sure what happened. i scored 100 in the first round, and in the second i had the enemy down to 1 grunt. (no, not the cleric.) but it said i won, and gave me 68 points (probably a correct number, i dunno.) in addition to a premature victory, it also took away the 100 points from the first round.
.. oh, wait. just saw the comment about winning by default... so that at least makes some sense. (though not entirely, as i've had 100 points needing to kill every last unit before..) however, the score adjustment might need to be looked at.

Maybe if I'd never played the vastly superior Pox nora (which gives you way more of everything even if you just play free forever) then it might not have been Soooooooooooooooo boring.

Great light strategy game. I agree with other comments below that units should change from level to level, whether it's veteran status, bonus points to spend, or whatever. Also, different maps (multiple elevated areas and/or distinctive map shapes) could help add variety in campaign mode.

Ok I looked up about the save game. Once I update, everything will be gone, Kongregate changes the name or ID so it's always considered a new game with new cookies (SharedObject). Google "flash sharedobject" to learn more, you could copy the SOL file when you find it, but still not sure if that will really work. I will update the game Saturday in case anyone wants to try.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
The only thing that bugs me on multi is the people who take forever to move. Okay right you need to think out your move but do you really need to take 30 seconds to do it?
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Yes it looks like all the Flash "cookies" goes away everytime I update the game. I think it's because Kong changes the "game shell" SWF file everytime I update. Err, I'm going to update it again soon. Sorry!
