I'm just going to say that the pirates on your ship are way too op, I literally had a fight once that every pirate on board had at least 25:1 KD ratio when fighting hand to hand, If you max out your crew and do melee fighting this game is really easy.

Maybe I'm just being dim but I can never tell if my cannon are going to fire to the left or to the right if my ship is sailing up or down. How am I supposed to tell if "up" means "to the left" or "to the right"? Some visual indication would be really useful.

Wow thanks top commenters. Thanks for getting my ass blown up twice on the last level. Touching the boss makes you die. How the hell would I go mano a mano with superios numbers of crew if contact means instant death?

Although this is a great idea for a game, and very well presented, enemy ships travel in an easy to predict way, going left and right. If ships rotated and came at you from other angles, this would be a more interesting game. Also, your strategy is very limited, because once you go above the enemies to the upper part of the screen, ships magically speed up an go straight at you, even if they go backwards in the process. This limits you to the same linear left and right motion as the opponents have. Would have been a 5/5, but I will have to give this game a 3/5 for these 2 very noticeable "errors".

In trying to get the admiral badge, I have to wonder why you get more gold for being accurate than having pirates surviving after a battle...

Oh yeah... The shoot up/shoot down game where it would have made more sense to shoot port (left)/shoot starboard (right). Vote up if you hit fire only to shoot the wrong direction...

This reminds me a lot of Pirates! except the swordfighting is automatic.
I wish Pirates let you upgrade your ships like this though.

The easy way to get 100% accuracy is to go into hand-to-hand combat with each levels boss ship and then broadside them.

I think it'd be cool if they made the battles larger and you had the option of either buying multiple ships in case you lose your first one or have the option of multiplayer where you can team up with other pirates to take down bigger scores. Awesome game though. =)

I tried harvestsun's tactic, and he was spot on with the upgrades, but to get the most money, starting level 3 to 9, shoot a very small amount of cannonballs(and hit with them) to get a 100% accuracy rating after the level. You see, starting from level 3, onwards, a 100% accuracy rating gives you more money than the 2500 gold they give when you don't shoot a thing.

What? after i died on the second level (LAME) i went to like the 4th without even beating 2 and 3! Was that a glitch or what?

You'd think that on Admiral difficulty the enemy captains would have the courage to shoot back during close confrontation. :)

i had 22 pirates after the battle with the flagship and i killed well over 400 :D that shows a win on the pirates side go pirates XD

@harvestsun: you just created a paradox. You say we shouldn't listen to the top commenters, but you're one of them so we should listen to them which is the reason for not listening to them .........

You'd think that, after hearing of a captain who sacrifices 50 crew members every battle only to snap up another couple dozen replacements in the nearest town as soon as he's done, prospective pirates would stop showing up for job interviews. :S

i kept wondering why level 12 is so hard since ships kept coming in, and the boss joined in eventually.
...until i realized you can just hold space to rapidfire -.-

@ aee369: the easiest is captain and the hardest is admiral... This is because in real life the Admiral ranks higher than the Captain.
