5/5
Very old game with a new twist, made it very enjoyable.
Loved the upgradeable weapons, gave variety and actual tactics rather than just point and shoot.
Is there a way to get more lives? I only made it to lvl 14 and 2.5mil points, so i dont know if there is a certain spot where you one up point or lvl wise.
Still a great game, got very challenging towards lvl 12 and 13 with about a billion flockers spawning, lol
Nice music too, very old school space-y
Makes me think of the battle cruisers in startcraft.

@draconous I equated age to experience purely 'cause that's pretty much what it boils down to. I don't imagine too many gamers who were born after say the C64 era would be interested in a C64 emulator for example ( btw, ZX81 was the first machine for me, that's how painfully old I am ) @everyone pointing out that the enemies spawning on you is a bad thing, honestly it's not, they just die and you don't lose any energy. I hate games that do that myself, so I wouldn't code it that way :) Thanks for all the continued feedback

Enemy ships way too often spawn at your exact location or near enough for your reaction time not to matter. Luck is more important than skill. 3/5

GYW its not an age group thing it s a experience thing while most of the O.G. ( original gamer) rember the old days where games like this were the cutting edge and the NewBs ( new bloods for all you morons who think is a degrogatory term) have seen or have lived trough games that have pushed the curve that made us lots of clones of the same game
cuase if you look at the gameplay mechanincs of some of the newer versus the older ones you can see they growth and cahnges we have made and where we have stayed the course with some things and the only right i have to say these things is that im an OG ive been playing since comodore 64 ( and if you dont know what that is google the damm thing)

Fair to say you've not given it a 5 then ?
The missiles home in on the asteroids only as they are the primary targets in the game, the baddies are there just to add variation and to get in the way of the primary task.

Spread shot weapons can't fail to shoot straight. That sucks. If an even number, make two shoot straight and then spread.

Lame that level can end with powerup still on screen. I killed all the asteroids before the final swarmers appeared, and the last one dropped the powerup. No chance to get it.

It makes me smile the difference in views between age groups. I'm old enough myself to have put money into an asteroid cab and most people my age seem to prefer it to be more like asteroids, whereas everyone younger dislikes the lack of originality. I don't think I could have picked a worse genre to do a homage to ;)

Guy below me: don't forget the fact that asteroids bounce off each other, and can be pushed back by your shots. Never present in MY day, sonny. *shakes cane*

It's not too bad. I noticed that when I die I go to the next level... I was pretty close to moving on in the first place, but I'm fairly sure I still had to kill something before I could move on, so it isn't like I ran into the last enemy and killed it, you know? Fun game overall though. I can understand not having enough time for a shop system, but that would've been cool. 4/5.

Thanks for the continued great comments, makes it all worth while. @dimblenut yeah all bitmaps @kungfudrinx bosses would have been great but we ran out of time / budget. I doubt we'll do a sequel but if we were to do one then yeah we'd go the whole hog with bosses and multiple weapon upgrades via a shop system. Thanks again guys.

Stunning game - those effects are to die for! Weaving between Flockers and the spiral bullet formations is genuinely thrilling, and everything's put together with a level of polish I've seen very rarely in all my years as a Flash gamer. Fantastic power ups too.

I like it a lot, but it's very very easy: If the original Asteroids had healing, no drift, power-ups, and aim assistance like this does, an entire Saturday at the arcade would only have cost one quarter!

Well made game. Perhaps add a boss level every 5 or 10 or so. Also, I like the idea of balancing out the strong weapon, but I think that both the shorter range and reload are too crippling. Also, it might help players if they knew how many shots they had left before reloading, and how much time till the reload was completed. Love the music, it's nice to see someone else still listens to the old masters.

Great game IMHO. Good visuals, smooth gameplay, and some variety. Replayability is a little on the low side as after it's mastered there is little to bring me back. But as far as flash games go it's quite good. Solid 4/5.

*sigh* I thought I'd fixed that on the last update ( It's where there's an asteroid off screen and it's velocity doesn't allow it to come back on, so it's there, but you can't see it ). Thanks for flagging it up, I'll try and fix it again on the next update.

Fixed version is up, just want to apologise to everyone who got hit by the buggy broken version. @lorienvarden The flockers don't actually damage the ship if they teleport on top of you, in the recent update I've added a shield effect to try and show that more than before, guess it's still not clear enough. The plasma is weighted in that it becomes almost too powerful and the game would just be a race to max that out and then grinding away for a hi-score, so I increase it's reload time and decrease it's range to balance that out. The missiles target the asteroids as they are the primary target, the baddies are just there to break things up. Thanks for the thoughtful feedback and taking the time to play it.

Nice visuals, good music - gameplay was only so-so.
I didn't find any use for any other weapon other then the spread shot. That green plasma thingy just has too little range for a "powerfull gun" and to slow reload for a "all around shot"
Missiles targeting the predictably moving asteroids instead of the enemy ships ?? WHY ? Makes no sense in my opinion.
Loosing momentum when bumping into an enemy shot has cost me several lifes - especially from smiters. you just want to get to the other end of the screen - but one bullet strafes you - you loose momentum and get hit by 4-5 more shots. not good.
Flockers spawning UNDER my ship - damaging me without any chance to avoid them. Frustrating. Overall , I'ld rate it 3/5

Can't play it anymore. I played it an hour ago, but when I try to start a game now, all I get is a blank screen with background music.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
@tommy9898 lol, yeah it's pretentious, there's just no talking to it now it's on Kong. On NG it was fine, but now it's somehow fallen up it's own arse of self importance. Damn the game to hell for giving an option so people on slower machines can still enjoy it, and as for not trying to overwhelm anyone by shoving too much text at them in one go, well it should burn shouldn't it.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Its ok, I think its lame that each map changes, so if there was a powerup on screen you lose it and it is lame the flockers always seem to spawn around you. 3/5

Classic. I can dig it. Also slightly reminds me of a Star Wars game I played when I was a little kid. I DIG THE MUSIC.

To describe this game is one word, "pretentious". I get the feelling that this game just thinks soooooo much of itself, right from the start where it claims it could make your computer 'esplode because of how great it is. I don't like how in the tutorial it says "see these bars, I will describe them later", why? because im to stupid to understand its just Asteriods plus upgrades in one level?
To describe this in two words, cluster f**k. there is just too much stuff going on.
In three words, "I've had better." every thing has been done before by better developers.

I got stuck on level 4. I killed all the asteroids and bad guys, but the progress bar still says I have a bit left to do. Bug? 3/5

Other than first impressions (Which matter oh so much in any product) this does seem to be a solid, well made rendition of Asteroids, with a smidgen of additional physics, but otherwise nothing new.
